Battle Red Radio: Texans Down Longhorns (9 P.M. CST)

Hey there, sailing unit! (Photo by Thomas B. Shea/Getty Images)

Well, that was an asskicking. It's almost like trying to field a team of great Texas Longhorns in the NFL isn't a great strategy. But hey, Colt McCoy sure looked mediocre out there, and I hear that Evan Moore gives a great pedicure. And uh ... man, it is nice watching the Texans close out teams that they should beat.

Join myself, BFD, and MDC. We will take you on a fantastic voyage of sliding, sliding, and slippity sliding, including tangents on the game, Matt Schaub's evilness, and a discussion of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football club, which I hear actually plays well sometimes.

If you'd like to get a question answered, there are two ways:

Star-divide

Option A: You could call in to the show! Our phone number is 661-244-9808. I'm not going to try to create a call-in segment anymore. I'll just work with the calls we have. The lines will open after the show starts, and as I see a caller, I'll take them in and let them lob their questions at us. Keep in mind that a) this is not a toll-free call for you and b) it may take 10-15 minutes to get to your call depending on call volume, long-winded responses, and technological constraints.

I should add: If you call, just give us one question. Your best question. Thanks.

Option B: Leave us a question in the comments. We'll try to hit on it in a special segment near the end of the show.

Here's a direct link to the show if the embed link below does not let you listen live. While you wait, you can catch up on last week's show, where audio drops became commonplace!

P.S.: This show will probably have cursing, and will probably not be suitable for younger audiences.

5 questions from me

is tampa bay a trap game?

when will cushing be busted for overtraining again?

it is obvious that this team is bad. 6-3 means nothing. how much longer until we are no longer a bottom feeder in our own divishun? (sarcasm)

when will kubiak merge foster and tate to create a number 1 back like he created a number 2 wide receiver?

who is the scariest person on offense? defense? special teams besides marciano’s teaching?

What in the hell is going on?

Sean Cody got penetration? and a pic? Kareem Jackson defended 2 passes? is the world going to implode? or is this what we have been keeping them around for?

did I type that outloud? oops.

by Chrxtopher on Nov 8, 2011 8:10 PM CST reply actions

The Saints success to the Bucs was interior line penetration, good tackling, running the ball effectively, getting pressure on Freeman, and overcoming the refs.

Can the Texans do all of these things on the road against a Tampa team backed into the corner?

well so far crazy predictions coming to fruition has become the norm. so i gotta concur with 8TO80

also, couple questons.
1. with losing gerald mccoy, should the bucs take a look at fat albert since he excels in the 4-3?
2. how many more games do the eagles gotta lose before the media stops speculating on if their f-bombing seasons over. ?
3.is it jus bad luck, the lockout, or is there a problem with something wrong we’re doing with our strenghth and conditioning that needs to be addressed?
4. who is responsible for strenghth and conditioning and is he thought highly of in the league or just another guy?

QUESTION FOR THE SHOW

What’s the deal with JJ. Is it just me, or, has he been……like…..dare I say…..good the past cpl of games? Not trying to jinx him, just seems like maybe he’s been licking his fingers pregame. You know, to get the butter off.

by HTown80 on Nov 8, 2011 10:56 PM CST via mobile reply actions

we need to start clarifying which JJ we're talking about. JJ Watt, Jacoby Jones, or Jonathan Joseph.

I assume this is Jacoby though, since the other two have been playing well all season.

Is HOT.

I know it’s past time, but…

What does the future hold for us if we make it into the playoffs this year? Is Kubiak fully redeemed? Does anyone else think we can sweep all 6 divisional games this year?

I'll answer
What does the future hold for us if we make it into the playoffs this year?

Who knows? It really depends on how healthy we are at the end of the year, our seeding, and our matchup(s). Plus, we still have seven games to go, so we shouldn’t jinx ourselves just yet (ahem). If we do make the playoffs, we should be competitive.

Is Kubiak fully redeemed?

A resounding kinda. Kubiak still deserves blame for hiring Frank Bush, which set our defense back for three years. Plus, who was responsible for not addressing major defensive concerns over the previous four years? If anything, it looks like Kubiak is learning, but his curve was too steep at times.

Does anyone else think we can sweep all 6 divisional games this year?

We get into this on the podcast, but the short answer is yes.

Good answers

I’m just anxious to see where we end up at the end of the season. Barring a several game collapse on our part AND the Titans somehow lighting up teams the really should lose to while simultaneously putting away all the teams they should beat- we will see the playoffs. Hopefully neither of those happen and we are seeded high enough to get a bye.

But I’m even more anxious to see how far we go in our first appearance. Divisional, do we win the Conference? Actually get a shot at the Super Bowl!? My head is dizzy with all the possibilities. I just keep thinking of the Giants team that ended the Patriots perfect season in the Super Bowl. What magnificent underdogs they were… Anything is possible.

And good points on Kubiak… Over a long enough timeline, its hard not to accidentally succeed. If your dominant divisional rivals Hall of Fame QB falls to a season ending, nigh career ending injury, doubley so. But can he deliver consistently? I will give him this- he has never really been “awful,” and he has shown improvement on his “acceptable” performance, which I guess is all we ever really wanted in the first place. He doesn’t have to be a world ender, just “pretty damn good” would be nice…

I'm ready.

FO has us with the highest % in the AFC. Our division is shit (other than us). The Texans’ D is legit, even if it’s not the best in the league. The schedule from here on out is markedly easier than so far. We can realistically expect to go 5-1 in the division at worst.

Translation: We’re making the playoffs. It’s happening. So let’s talk about it.
