Donovan McNabb Released: Should the Texans Put In A Claim?
As much as I have been disappointed in McNabb's sudden decline in ability, this could be a blessing in disguise for the Texans. Could he be any worse than Jake Delhomme? Me thinks not.

Bears it says on twitter
They are ahead of us and initial speculation is that the cowgurls will block that by picking up his 1,5mill cost to stove him away.
Swede that like the Houston Texans and Chelsea FC
If the Cowboys pick him up, than they'd have to put him on the 53 man roster.
That’s a big step, and I don’t thing they can waste the roster spot. They already have plenty of injuries and need every spot they can get. I don’t think they could IR him either.

Probably not, but the Texans would still be screwed either way if TJ can’t cut it.

I'm in support of giving Yates the reigns as the unquestioned starter.
If he gets hurt, however, I would feel better if we had two Vets to picks from, a 2a and 2b. Mcnabb and Delhome are a better combo than Clemens and Delhome. I’d bring in Mcnabb to replace Clemens, but only as an emergency QB, not to start…

to be fair...
That offense had ZERO playmakers on it for most of the season. They couldn’t run the ball, therefore their play action looked like shit. He had 3,300 yards in 13 games. I think he’s better than Clemens, and I’d bring him on to compete with Delhomme for the backup spot. I think any QB would better with our players vs. the crapfest Washington had last year. He’s not the Donovan of the 90’s, but he’s better than what we have as our third, and I think that’s what really matters…

How is it that TJ is getting
a free pass at all of this. I know he has not played alot and the few snaps he took, he looked “OK”. This is Donovan we are talking about. Seasoned QB. Spare me your arguments of :
- he is washed up
- he has nothing in the tank
- yada yada yada
i think this offense he can excel at because its QB friendly….if it is not friendly for Donovan, why is it friendly for the rest of the QB chumps we are picking up.
I want to believe in YATES but odds are he will fall flat on his face with a big disgrace and he most likely will have mud all over is face…we will, we will (where did that come from?)
2011 Season is the Reason!!!
He didn't excel in Shanahan's offense, which is the same as ours
So if he couldn’t pick it up there, how do you expect him to pick it up here?

truth be told
every QB that played for Shanahan credits Kubiak for developing them, not Shanahan. Plummer, Griese, Steve Young, all had their best years when Kubiak was there QB coach/ OC. Not a lot of them like Shanahan. Say what you will about Kubiak as a head coach, but he’s shown that he can develop QB’s. Mike Shanahan failed with Cutler and is lost with Beck. May be a great Head Coach, but I don’t think he really develops QB’s

We would not want him
He is lazy
He is a prima donna
and in his mind – nothing is ever his fault
So if you want a washed up QB that is z lazy prima donna that has been cut by 3 teams in a year – I guess he fits that bill

I watch a ton of football….enough to be considered unhealthy….and I don’t remember a time where McNabb did or said anything that would cast him in that kind of light. If anything, it’s the opposite. I remember thinking how I wished he would just tell everyone to fuck off. Instead he always said the right thing and took the high road.
So again, I don’t get where he’s drawing this diva label from some people. It’s like they just want to hate on him so they throw that in there. His play is the only negative I have with him. He was pretty freakin good once upon a time. Now, not so much, and that’s a shame.

minnesota doesn't make a lot of sense to me this year
but what I figure is that they realized they wouldn’t be going anywhere with GB and CHI being so strong – McNabb was there on the off chance they could sneak into the playoffs and to “mentor” Ponder – It simply became obvious that they might as well get the rookie into the game now after they had all those weird losses.

They traded away their best and most consistent receiver to Seattle
and left themselves with migraine Harvin and the 1 year statistical anomaly that is Shiancoe. Not a recipe for success for any QB, much less an aging one with lockout-short time in the system.

I love the polarization between us all here on this.
Personally, if Smithiak is for it, then I’m for it. All this around here is just conjecture based on incomplete info. We’re all entitled to our opinions based on what we do or do not know, but if Smithiak decides to do it or not do it, it would be based on:
1.) Game Tape not available to us
2.) Opinion of the Shanahans, though this may be tampering (I don’t know)
3.) Opinion of Kubiak on whether he is serviceable and coachable
4.) Whether he is a better option than Jake Delhomme
5.) Expectation of future injuries
6.) The expected difference in having offense weapons that he did not have in Washington
7.) Confidence in current QBs
Could we not claim him (if he makes it to us and the Bears don’t), evaluate him and then have Kubiak decide going forward if he is a better option than Delhomme – and if not, cut him?
Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I think with the limited availability of QBs we could all pretty much just defer to Kubiak on this and feel comfortable with whatever he thinks is best.

But I’m getting the impression that some people here WANT to start McNabb. Unforgivable.

I'm totally for TJ Yates starting. He had some pretty impressive flashes of brilliance in the 1st half
He’ll be fine. =)
Having an upgrade over Clemens would be a good reason to pick up McNabb IF and ONLY IF he clears waivers — we’re not forking over good money for a QB who can’t resurrect crappy offenses =P. Never mind the fact that QB is only one part of the team. Anyone we pick up would be blessed to join our offense. So we have a right to be choosy and ditch Clemens IF McNabb gets past waivers and IF he works out well.

Can I just say...
…if a defender so much as BREATHES like he’s going to cheap-shot on Yates and said defender is allowed to finish the game without being carted off… I think we need a fire-sale on the offensive line.
Case in point, the jerk that came flying in head-to-head on Yates Sunday. There should have been a stretcher and a golf-cart involved in his exit from the field.

…it really seems like every other QB in the league floats around in this pink lace bubble-o-protection and flags go A-FLYIN’ if a defender coughs in their direction, but ever since Schaub got here, cheap-shot artists like Drayton Florence and Fat Albert have knocked him out with very little consequence. i'm a mcnabb fan
think he’s a total class act too.
HOWEVER, damn did he look awful most of last season and this season too. At this point, it would be a coin flip between McNabb and Delhomme, doubtful either of them will be much help under center.

That’s who I want to go after. Cut Delhomme or Clemens and snatch him up. I think it’d be possible to win a playoff game with him.
But geezus would that be WEIRD.

I still think we would see Yates get his chance Sunday, but I think going into the playoffs it’d be very likely that we have Sage under center, which imo is best case scenario.

Jake has played in a big game in Reliant before. Heck, he even had strippers and streakers for the party.
Follow the invalid toad.
And he was awesome in it.
He went toe to toe with one of the greatest QBs of all time and looked every bit as good as Brady.
Of course, that Jake Delhomme is long gone… But he was underrated when he was in his prime.
He probably might have had that game won if the kicker hadn't shanked the kickoff

Follow me on twitter: @Super_Stud2100
This implies that no one could be worse than Delhomme
and I don’t agree with that premise. As reported in Jeffrey Martin’s column in the comicle:
"He’s a leader and a good person," Kubiak said. "He’s played in big games. He’s got West Coast (offense) verbiage in his background. He was so upbeat about coming here. He showed good arm strength.
While I would expect Kubiak to stand up for his players and not say anything negative, it sounds like he was asked why he wanted Delhomme. I can see where he might hide some negative things about him, or avoid some issues, but I dont think he would just out and out make up a lie about Jake. To me this is probably an honest evaluation of the good points about Jake.
With that being said, I thought McNabb in his prime was very underrated, and I would love to have that McNabb on the team. He also was beat up pretty badly over the years, and those injuries had to take a toll. How far past his prime, and what his current physical condition is would be keys to me on whether or not to hire him.
Yates>Mcnabb
Mcnabb has never really been that good, and as soon as he couldnt run anymore he was cut(traded?) by philly, at least there is some upside with Yates, he looked good at NC and if he understands that all he needs to do is manage the game we will be fine, PLUS Kubiak will put Yates in the best opportunities to win for us, Mcnabb isnt accurate, hes a diva, and will be bad for this locker room at a time that we dont need someone like him, just my two cents. And where is this diva shit coming from?
T.O. was the diva. McNabb has always taken the high road. You guys kill me.
I'm a man!! I'm forty!!
My impression of him as a diva comes from:
- The complete failure to pick up the system in Washington. You’ve been paid a TON of money, show up and study. Now, I am willing to write that one off as not so much diva as just not having the intellect to learn the system. So in that case he’s not a diva, he’s just “special”, but in either case we don’t need him.
- The way the media treats him (Not directly his “fault”, but contributes to my impression). They have been trying to force-feed him into the Hall of Fame for years now and his numbers and his results just do not add up to that.
- The way he reacts to the fawning of the media. It’s hard to call out a specific instance but when they throw up self-serving puff-ball assessments of his situation that are NOT accurate, you NEVER see him disagree or try to get them to reel it back in or be just a bit more realistic… He just soaks it up and agrees wholeheartedly that he’s had a tough road but is a phenomenal human being for having endured so much. I just don’t care to have his drama or Favre’s drama around this team.
McNabb was a threat when he had the wheels to take off and hurt you if you didn’t account for him. As a pure passing QB, I do not think that he is worth a look.
"Fanaticism consists in redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten your aim." - George Santayana
What drama?
All the drama around McNabb stemmed from one person…..Terell Owens. Other than that, he’s just catering to the persona the media made for him. He’d much rather be cast in a positive light so he takes the high road. Can you blame him?
Your last statement is dead on. I’m not disputing the fact that he’s not worth a look. I’m disputing the hits to his character. It’s one thing to say he sucks, but the rest is b.s. in my opinion.
I'm a man!! I'm forty!!
I don't know that its "B.S."...
It obviously differs from your opinion of him and I respect that.
