Making a Very "Special" Wish Come True

Today I asked my 12 year old son that age old question… "What do you want for Christmas?" Without hesitation and with great excitement he exclaimed, "To go watch the Texans beat the Titans on Jan 1st!"

I cannot put into words the emotions that flooded over me! You see… my son is autistic, and this is the first time in his short life that he has shown any true interest in sports. I can still recall that terrifying feeling back in 2001, when I was first told my son may have autism. All I could think about was him scoring the game winning touchdown, hitting the free throw to ice the game, his first homecoming dance, etc. These are just a few of the moments that most fathers envision in their minds when they first hear those three wonderful words, "it’s a boy!" It took a while, but I came to grips with his disability. Over the past couple of years, he has made huge strides towards being more like his peers.

Of course, no child has just one wish for Christmas. His second wish was for an Andre Johnson jersey (smart boy!). Of course, there is no way my boy is gonna miss that game!! So, I immediately went online and began to look for tickets. To my utter dismay I found that the absolutely cheapest tickets available were in the nosebleed Section (616) for $140 each!! I have two boys, so of course I have to take em both to the game, but there is NO WAY I can afford those prices. You add in parking and a couple drinks, etc. we’re talking about a $450-500 experience! Just for one game?! Bear in mind this is not even a great experience!! This high priced venture will only afford us a nosebleed cattycorner view of the field. I understand football is America’s game, and I have no problem forking out my hard-earned cash to be entertained, but I am absolutely shocked at these prices! These ticket prices are for a 9-year-old franchise that has yet to EVER make a playoff appearance. I can only imagine what Steelers or Patriot’s tickets would run!

I am posting this message in hopes that someone out there can point me to some reasonably priced tickets. I am pretty much computer illiterate, so I know there has to be other websites out there with a better deal. As I stated, I have no issues paying for some tickets, but I can’t afford those prices. Can anyone out there PLEASE provide a website or phone number to some reasonably priced seats?

My son has many fears. He hates going to the movies because the theater is too dark. I took him to a monster truck rally one time, and even with power muffs used by shooters we had to leave due to the noise. I can go on and on… For the first time in his life, he wants to go to a public venue and cheer on his favorite team. I am committed to doing anything I can to make my son’s Christmas dreams come true! Any assistance y’all can provide is greatly appreciated! I’d really like get through this Christmas season without a beastly credit card statement staring me in the face, if you know what I mean!
