Sorry to vote Jets, but

i want to EARN a superbowl victory, and that means not backing into it with the easiest possible schedule or matchups. Rather, I want to play and beat real contenders. I can stand losing to a legit team. I do not however want to go to the superbowl and face a tried and true team that earned it the hardest possible way. I want to be that team that isn’t afraid of facing the best. May the best team win it.

We need to face down and beat the Titans out of the playoffs this week and run over a Rex Ryan Defense. They seem like the only potential SB team available to us in the first round…so I want them. If we can’t beat them, then we know exactly where we are as an organization and can address whatever they expose as our inhibitors (from taking us to a championship). Then we can use the offseason to address whatever those weaknesses are.

I don’t want to “get to” a superbowl. I want to be Champions & Championships are earned…and not by way of the path of least resistance.

call them whatever you prefer

But they look the most likely out of that group to me. Big stage experience, risk-taking yet competent coaching, tough defense. It would surpise me the least if they won it over the other teams we are potentially facing in round one. If I were convinced that there is a better team available, I would want them instead.

I agree

but I’d still prefer to stomp the piss out of the Jets. I still remember Foot Boy’s smartass comments about the lousy Texans defense after the game last year. Also, the Jets are the media darlings, and I would love to shut those bastards up.

Not the Titans.

Just the thought of a loss to them (although I wouldn’t expect one) makes me start thinking about a suicide plan.

Anyway, I picked the Bengals. I think they are the least talented and beating Baltimore will probably take a lot out of them.

I think were better and would beat all 4 of those teams but a loss to the Titans and Jets would kill me.

by Dmo_Htx on Dec 30, 2011 1:28 PM CST reply actions

I would never

root for getting the Jets. We don’t have a good track record against that team, Rex Ryan, or Mark Sanchez. Also, I think that team could be dangerous in the playoffs (lots of postseason veterans who could boost their level of play). I think with the way our offense has played lately that we would be extremely vulnerable to some of Rex’s defensive schemes. The last team I would want to see in Reliant. We already know we can beat the Bengals, should have a healthier team if we play them again, so that’s my choice of team to play. It may be the most boring big-picture match up, but I want us to win. Second choice would be the Raiders.

God is not on our side because he hates idiots also.

by Meta Sandoval on Dec 30, 2011 1:29 PM CST reply actions

We had the Jets beat in their stadium last year. Only the Red Carpet Defense saved them.

I want them back for the playoffs so J. J. Watt and Captain Crush can break Sanchez’s bones. It would be a nice touch if they could chase Sanchez into Fatso Ryan and break some of his bones, too.

They are a team with a lot of problems, mental and physical. They would make a handy victim.

I picked the Titans

Mostly because they are the least talented of those teams. Also, I think they will come out throwing everything they have at us on Sunday in hopes of grabbing that 6th seed so we should have lots of tape to go on from them. Conversely I think that we don’t show them anything and continue to keep Yates under wraps to keep them from formulating an effective gameplay against us. If we can beat them 41-7 with Schaub, then we should at least be somewhere around 28-7 with TJ on Wildcard Weekend

The thing that makes the Raiders scary is that they run an offense similar to ours.

This exposure to it in practice makes me worry that their defensive ass whipping in the first meeting might be repeated. (Ravens also mainly run the ZBS stretch and those are the only two defenses to dominate our O this year).

I'd quite like to play the Titans

cz I think they’re the weakest of the teams left, and it’d be an interesting story to face the old Houston team in the new Houston team’s first playoff game ever… plus I’d get to take the piss out of my dad for being a Titan fan still.
But I don’t want to lose to them this week and have a week of doubting and negativity before the inaugural playoff game either, so I’d probably go Raiders, especially if run DMC is still injured cz I can’t see Palmer performing all that well.

According to Chris Burke of SI
Oakland actually remains in the best wild-card position if Cincinnati slips up. If the Raiders win (and don’t take the AFC West because of a Broncos victory), a Tennessee loss or Jets win, coupled with a Bengals loss, would give the Raiders a wild-card spot.

Even though the Bengals might be the toughest choice on the list I went with them

The reasoning is multifaceted. First, playing the Titans would mean we would therefore have lost to them this Sunday, and I can in no way stomach that thought. The Jets have looked pretty terrible, but they do seem to play better once the post season rolls around so avoiding them would be nice. I would be ok with the Raiders as well, but there is one crucial factor that made me choose the Bengals. A win by the Bengals over the Ravens means that most likely the Steelers will be the North champs. So WHEN the Texans beat the Bengals next weekend, the second game would be at Pittsburgh as opposed to at Baltimore. This would be more favorable for our boys IMO. Add in the fact that if the Texans got by Pittsburgh and the Ravens took out the Patriots (which I would expect to happen) the AFC Championship is at Reliant!

The Texans are going to eliminate the Titans Sat. The Bengals are the scariest team of the choices their D is super and Dalton can put up points. A loss to the BESFs is realistic, unfortunately.

They have their season on the line. I doubt (all) of the starters play the whole game (really, shall we risk more injuries?). So if we treat the second half like a preseason game, losing is realistic, even if we dominate the first half.
