I've read in the comments a few times that soccer players would be a good idea for the new punter. I'm not sure, to be honest, whether these are serious suggestions or not, and usually I'm behind you guys on commenting because of the time difference etc so it's been quite hard to actually have a conversation about it in the comments, so if I'm reading this wrong and it is just a joke then I apologise in advance for the uselessness of this post.

However, if they are serious suggestions, I'd like to try and make it obvious that I don't see how it would be a viable solution. I watch a lot of Football over here in the UK - it's the sport I was brought up with - and the whole style of kicking the ball is completely different to that of Punting.

In Football you're either, in the main, kicking the ball on the floor, or from the floor up into the air, to other players. Very very rarely will a player be able to hit a dropping ball on the volley (without it hitting the floor beforehand) in the style of a Punt. Further to this, players don't usually need to kick the ball as far as a Punter would, so the idea of just hitting it without the finesse they may usually put on the ball would probably be alien.

Although Goalkeepers will often kick the ball out in roughly the style of a Punter, there's still the issue of it being a different shaped ball, and also the problem of having 11 big men running at you which generally doesn't happen to the keeper in a Football game.

The idea of a Aussie Rules player would be a good one I think, and also possibly either a Rugby League or Union player who is familiar with kicking. I remember about a year ago it was rumoured the kicker for my Rugby League team, Pat Richards, was going to sign with the Dolphins to be their kicker/punter, although that never actually came about.

Again I'd like to say that if I read the comments wrong I'm very sorry for this unnecessary post. Also, if I was a little patronising in my explanation I'm sorry, I'm not really sure how familiar you all are with Soccer so thought it best to err on the safe side.

I hope this is helpful, although I have a feeling it may not be, and that you'd just all rather have anybody at all instead of Matt Turk, hence the comments I read. If that is the case, I understand exactly where you're coming from.
