My top 10 picks for the houston texans
1.Patrick Peterson- with The recent things going on in the 2011 nfl combine patrick peterson is projected to fall to no.7 which is a position the texans can realistically trade up to. Peterson is a baller, if you have seen film from his games you will see excellent footwork, and ball hawking ability, to a point where he an shut down an entire side of a field. Something the texans might like while they have bernard pollard chilling back there. 2.Marcel Dareus- yeah i know i picked him over nick fairley the reason being im a little concerned how consistant fairly will be at the next level. Marcel received the warren sapp endorcement and is a large angry child, he is flexible in the positions he can play from a DE to a NT reminds me a lot of haloti ngata with that big frame. Unlike fairley dareus wasnt just a one season superstar hes been great ever since he stept on the field and dosent show any signs of slowwing down. 3.Prince Amukumara- with dallas possibly looking to trade down to get an OL later and the rams looking to trade up before the redskins taking julio jones i dont see anybody takin amukumara. Who is a baller and over shadowed by the amazing patrick peterson amukumara is still better than joe haden in my opinion and you cant get much worse than quinn, jackson, and allen so seems like a no brainer. 4. Julio Jones- when a beast of a WR like this comes along and gets passed up because of AJ green he could be too great to pass up. Michael irvin compared him to andre johnson and santonio holmes which are very prestigous comparisons. Julio will draw the double teams off andre and will make andre even better. 5. Von Miller- miller did good in the basic tests in the combine but struggled in the position drills showing sloppy footwork which has me concerned but with a comparison from mayock to demarcus ware how could you not take a shot. 6. Akeem Ayers- has excellent footwork and instincts he may not be the freak pass rusher that miller is but he is very balanced which is needed when you play manning twice a year. 7. Jimmy Smith- very rare sized CB with good ball skills from his WR background. Has great technique and always tries to break on the ball, and makes plays. Would be a excellent upgrade at the CB position reminds me of a Brandon flowers type. 8. Robert Quinn- dissapointing combine performence may hurt his draft stock just enough for him to fall to No. 11 which if he does would be a scary sight paired with mario williams. 9. JJ watt- a freak of a DE very fast for how big he is and very mobile and agile for his size and a prototype 3-4 end. 10. Brandon Harris- a excellent CB from THE U which means he is pro ready and he has great ball skills and has made great plays in his 3 yrs.

Hi and welcome, eh72!
The combine has definitely changed my mind about a couple of these guys. I don’t see Ayers as being even 1st round worthy after his horrible combine showing, plus, he really wasn’t all that productive in college. Not a fan.
As I just wrote somewhere else, I don’t understand how Prince is an elite prospect. I saw him get burned all season long.
Smith is going to slide because of character issues, but wow, he’s pretty borderline freak. Harris easily slid into the 2nd today.
I think Rivers is doing a top 11 picks for the bloggers. I think. Should be interesting. Personally, I have Dareus and Peterson 1/2.
A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

Who didn't Blackmon burn?
Not fair to penalize an elite talent like Scrabble Jr for losing a head to head battle with an elite WR.

Julio Jones is a beast with a broken foot
We should draft him & see how beastly he is when healthy next to Andre & Kevin Walters

Agree to Disagree....
I love the Dareus choice… I am hoping for a Young, Heavy, Mobile NT…. MD is already a Champion so the Swagger will be there too… In free agency we gotta fill 2 slots with $$$
I don’t think we need another Rookie (Non-Leader) in the secondary… I am hearing the 9ers will let Nate Clements go this week… Obviously Nnamdi (sp) is the obvious choice… but I think J.Jones will out spend McNair on this one… So (Like champ Bailey) Clements is a ProBowler, a little older, and will lead our boys into Indy in Feb 2012. at LB… I’d like Von Miller… won’t have feelings hurt if he goes early… Julio Jones will be the Best choice… if he’s there… the other Free agent we need to chase is OLB… I LOVE Cushing inside, and I think Mario will be better**HEALTHY** So find a Veteran OLB… Chad Greenway, Joey Porter, or even Posluszny … If Bills let him go… I like the Poz Idea the most… But Joey Porter would be fine too… Poz costs $$ he’s young but Injury prone too… so Geesh… Back to Draft… TAKE JULIO JONES 1st!!!
Best Pick
The best thing to do is trade up for dareus or peterson or stay at 11 and get julio or trade down and get akeem ayers or jimmy smith and get extra picks to build depth.
I'm still on the Jimmy Smith wagon
Why give up assets to pick Patterson when you could possibly even gain assets in trading down later in the 1st and picking up a player who’s the exact same type of corner, and only a hair’s breath behind in overall athletic ability?
There’s no such thing as can’t miss players in the NFL draft, and honestly I think Patterson and Smith both have about the same ceiling as far as potential goes. He’s getting ragged on a bit for “lack of production” which I think is kind of silly, if they kept better stats as far as what opposing recievers did against corners Smith would be right around the top. He played on a crappy team and offenses largely ignored whoever he was covering, and on several occassions wouldn’t even throw to his side of the field often… Of course he’s not going to have impressive statistics, you have to actually be thrown against in order to have a chance at interceptions or pass break ups…
A “shut down corner” isn’t about interceptions and big plays anyways, it’s about taking one recieving option completely off the table, and Smith did that in College as well or better than anyone game in and game out, I don’t care what people say about “consistency”. How often did recievers have big or even decent games against Smith?
Because of the guy the Rockets drafted

I just don't buy into Jimmy Smith at all
I watch a lot of Big 12 ball…never saw him…..lived in Colorado….never heard of him…..watch him on tape? See a FS.
As for what WRs did……this is an assumption, but I’ll assume he took opposing team’s best WRs last season. So let’s look at Georgia, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech – 4 pass-happy offenses…..
- A.J. Green 7/119/2
- Greg Salas 9/94
- Ryan Broyles 9/208/3
- Alexander Torres 6/123/1
Like I said, assumption….but if Smith’s elite then this doesn’t show it at all.

And this will effectively end all Jimmy Smith talk amongst Texans fans
Unfortunately, Smith has major character concerns. He tested positive for drugs at Colorado and was also arrested twice. During the team interviews, Smith reportedly admitted to only one arrest, which draws yet another red flag.
Do. Not. Want.

Trading up to draft another rookie DB?
No thanks.
