As the home of the Texans will be on display tonight when Butler tangles with VCU (5:09 p.m. CDT) and Kentucky takes on UConn (7:49 p.m CDT), it'd be downright rude for us not to have an open thread to commemorate the occasion.

Yeah, but the fundamental problem with that...
… is that you’re conceding the rebound if he misses. I’d be fine with a team’s big man shooting from the outside on, say, a transition play, or if the clock’s running down, but at that point, I’d rather have him pass, then work inside so that there’s a good chance for an offensive rebound.
That said, that last shot I’m griping about was quite open, so it’s not like it was a completely bad decision.

… I’m thinking VCU’s a boom or bust team, and if they’re feeling the pressure at the end of the game (if it’s close), they can implode. Their energy’s exciting to watch, but I’m thinking of a few old-school coaches – Knight, Keady, the old retired Jud Heathcoate, and so on – who’d find a way to pick on that tendency, real heavy. And quite a few current coaches too: Krzyzewski, Williams, among others…
Don’t get me wrong: VCU’s doing a hell of a job implementing their game plan. They’re not backing down at all, and they’re doing their best to just take it straight to Butler. But, again, their style just screams boom/bust to me.

I've seen Dallas stadium and it really is in the middle of nowhere.
Well…I take that back. It’s between the freeways, Six Flags and some apartment buildings.
Well it's not the middle of nowhere, it's just a residential area, so there's a lot of houses nearby.
There used to be an amusement park too, but they tore it down back in ’06 I think.

They’re coached to hustle at the expense of fundamentally sound basketball. That much is obvious. That’s why I said above that I can picture a number of coaches who’d totally attack that at a fundamental level by coaching the players to be patient and smart.

As always, it depends on what you consider 'exciting' basketball
Butler / VCU was sloppy at times with bad shots. Who knows, Uconn and Kentucky could be playing a really nicely executed game, you know? Pitt/Butler was a greatly executed game (until the brain farts at the end).

I feel the same way
I don’t want to get cocky, but I definitely like Butler’s chances. It’s basically Kemba Walker and four other guys. I don’t think UConn is a three point shooting team and based on the numbers today, Butler is the butter rebounding team. Also, I don’t think UConn is really that big.

That is REALLY not an advantage for Butler
UConn is now 13-0 in neutral site games. Calhoun has pushed them on the disrespect card all season and going into a hostile environment just feeds that more. Definitely a team that is more comfortable playing in an us against the world setting.
If UConn is so great playing in a hostile setting,
then why are they only 5-5 on the road this year? You’re using a neutral site record to argue that they do well in hostile environments/road games. Not following that logic.
Disrespect card and stuff like that is also overrated. Things like talent, coaching, and execution have a lot more to do with winning a basketball game.

They play in the Big East?
I get it, the BE choked in the tourney, but make no mistake, it was the best conference in college basketball throughout the year. You’re talking about five losses that came at ND, at Pitt, at LVille, at WVU, and at the garden against St Johns.
You’re certainly free to have your opinion but I disagree about things like that being overrated in college. These are for the most part inexperienced guys playing, so getting them mentally ready to play is key and if as a coach you can get them prepared and working hard based on the disrespect card, how is that not part of coaching.
Past 28 hours
Met one of my favorite bands, saw them live in concert, Denny’s at 1 in the morning, partied with butler grads, and butler won. It’s been awesome.

Not really.
No glaring calls. The refs were being consistent in calling everything on both sides. Fouls everywhere.

The refs were inconsistent, in my eyes. At times, the refs called ticky tack calls…..and others? No calls. At the same time, it did go both ways, but they got in the flow of the game.
