This is probably a stupid question, but I am wondering why if:

*The players union has disbanded

*The judge agreed that they have disbanded

*The players have existing contracts

*The lockout has been lifted

Why can't each player just play under the terms of their existing contract?  Why cant the teams make legal contracts with their draft picks?  Any legal guys out there know??  It seems like the CBA is simply a way the owners regulate themselves so that they don't get into bidding wars.  Is that the main reason it exists?
