Rock The Vote: Prince Amukamara Or Julio Jones In The 2011 BRB Mock Draft?
Lots of good debate here. So good, in fact, that it's time for a poll.
While other players did warrant discussion, the vast majority of you have narrowed your focus to Prince Amukamara or Julio Jones. Accordingly, BRB will be drafting one of those guys with the 11th overall pick in our mock draft.
I ask you: Who do you want to see the Texans select in the 2011 BRB Mock Draft?

Prince has a great name.

Julio Jones, as much as I want this defense fixed

HAHA
that one vote for prince certainly is not from me.
Instead of voting for JJ, can I vote NOT for Prince
And yes, even if he played for the sooners I would hate him Battleredhusker
In the words of P. Puff Daddy Diddy: VOTE OR DIE
I voted Scrabble Jr simply because he’ll add talent to a talent-deficient defensive backfield.
I like both talents though and would be happy with either one as they are the best offensive and defensive talents that’ll likely be available at our spot.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Scrabble Jr?
Because of his last name right? Not talent level.

I think he's more talented than Joe Haden was coming into the league last season

more talented than HADEN?
i disagree STRONGLY. more talented then kareem maybe, but MARK MY WORDS
brandon harris will be the better CB of the two, and Id rather take him at 11.
Do you guys watch the BIG 12 games?
He reminds me a Mike Rumph, who i believe was picked 27th in the david carr draft, by either SAN FRAN or OAK, cant remember. I think San Fran

Rumph was taken by San Francisco
and I do watch Big 12 games. I saw a lot I liked from Amukamara. I don’t disagree that Harris is talented himself, but I think Amukamara is all-around better than Haden.

And to those proclaiming that this pick (and almost all picks) should go defense
Talent is talent. Fact is, Houston needs all the talent it can get. Nine years of no playoffs means you can’t overlook one side for the other.

Have to vote defense
Amukamara, even IF they get a veteran free agent CB. Julio Jones is an amazing talent, but Julio Jones with 5 or 6 productive years left and tons of experience is already on the team. Any kind of productive pass defense is not.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
Based on nothing really
I meant 2-3 years of superstar left. Im guessing you meant 5-6 serviceable years. He won’t be this good at 35 IMO.
Maybe your right, but the possibility of the two gets me excited
by AllenOU on Apr 5, 2011 2:20 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
I can list the ten top WRs in the modern game
and they all were productive at least to the age of 35. Do I need to do that or do you believe me.
Anyways, I see no reason why AJ can’t continue at least to 35 and he turns 30 this year. That is six more seasons of high productivity.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
Out of curiosity
Id like to see your list
The strong do what they have to do; the weak accept what they have to accept
Unfortunately, AOU was probably spot on with the "3 years" part
AJ should have been sat early on, with his high ankle spain. I remember reading somewhere that it’s a degenerative issue now.
I'd like to see the list
But I believe you if you say so.
His ankle issues are a legitimate concern
At the very least I expect a slight drop off on 2-3 years.

rank Prince higher, but they are usually very close, so the BPA logic doesn’t really fit when choosing between these two… unless some of us are actual NFL scouts… and I mean the good ones like the Pats have;)

Even if it’s a difference between a couple of spots on a draft board, does it really mean much?

You guys are out of your mind
I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong about Mario. Pretty much the only one I was sorta right about was that Amobi would be a flop (still debatable, I guess) and that Cushing would be solid. I don’t claim to be a draft expert. There’s plenty of those in the Texans blogosphere.
Wait.....
Did Mike Kerns just say he wasn’t a draft expert? No. He said he doesn’t claim to be an expert. He’s modest, too! I bow to you, Mike Kerns.

I don't mind being a contarian, of course
Given the choice between those two, AJ Green would be my pick
I'd be ecstatic for Green
But he is even less likely to be picked if he was there because of his “character issues.” That don’t fly with Bob.
Green's fine
but I just don’t like him more than Julio, personally.
I do think it’ll come down to WR vs Aldon Smith vs maybe Amukamara though….word amongst Insiders say Quinn’s pro day display has made him a top-10 lock barring any slip up in personal interviews and workouts.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Julio played for Alabama
somewhat of a CollegeCrush of the FO and he was part of a run-first offense where he had to do a lot of blocking, which im sure Kubes and Co love so he just seems like more of a "fit " than AJ Green. However, the BPA arguement would remain the same and I don think the result for the Texans would change all that much either to be honest.

agree on Green, even if Julio's foot is a non-issue
The foot may just be a non-issue, though it could also be a lingering problem. We’d need to see the x-rays and get a medical opinion.
But I will say from experience (in both cases) that broken bones in the foot can heal up quite nicely, though other times they quickly become chronic issues. It’s likely a crapshoot IMO.
good point
but I was actually referring to the way the Julio Jones bandwagon ballooned after he ran such a fast 40 on a broken foot at the combine. It was one of those stories that gave people opinions about his WR abilities without having even watched any film of him. People seem to assume our offense will improve by drafting this guy and I just don’t see how.

I think it depends on how the FO feels about Dorin Dickerson.
If the Front Office likes what they see in Dorin, I don’t see them spending a draft pick on Julio. Right now they’ve got AJ and Kevin Walter locked up in deals, they’ve tendered Jacoby with a 2nd round pick, and there’s still David Anderson and Dorin. In the secondary though, there’s….what? A rookie corner isn’t always the greatest option, certainly rookie WRs adapt to the NFL quicker, but a rookie corner sure as heck can’t be any worse than what we fielded last year. And in 1-2 years or so, we ought to have a dynamite secondary.
I wouldn’t be upset w/ a Julio pick though. Just wish we had Free Agency already underway to clear up some of this mess.

Let's Party like it's 1999!
As I said in yesterday’s thread… Although both players are closely rated in the various talent boards on the internets, our need in the secondary is much greater. While I’m glad that we have finally been cleansed of the Eugene Wilson affliction, we now have holes in the roster to fill (not just upgrade) in the secondary. While I agree that Jacoby Jones has been a disappointment, at least he and Walters are serviceable and the offense is working fine. Prince would give us another body in the secondary while taking a top 15 rated prospect to fill a need. BPA meets Need and they lived happily ever after;)
TLDR: Prince and Julio grade closely as prospects, but Prince fills a much bigger need.

re: Jacoby
He’s made mistakes, sure.
Going back into thie list of great receivers [from the Shanny/Koobs era in Denver] that I posted in the other thread (ie: Rod Smith, Ed McCaffrey, Shannon Sharpe, and Brandon Marshall) it’s interesting to see how productive they were during their first few pro seasons. Very little production for each.
In partcular, Rod Smith’s career was very interesting to follow as a fan. In his first five or so years, he drove us fans crazy, and probably couldn’t even catch a cold. In a bit of history lesson for us, the “drops” stat started becoming all the rage after Mike Shanahan openly told the press he kept his own personal stats for his players’ drops (certainly to gauge the progression of someone like Rod Smith).
Anyhoo, starting in 1998 (the second Broncos Championship season), Smith finally began to display some of the best hands around, and that continued throughout the rest of his career.
Jacoby is typically lamented by us for his dropped passes, and rightfully so. The onus needs to be on his technique/focus, first and foremost, but it is gradually something that will improve under this staff, and with more opportunities.
In fact, he looked to be more consistent than usual, during the last few games in 2010. Probably didn’t hurt that he was playing every down by that point…

I have this love/hate thing with Jacoby and I wanna love him more, so thanks for that reply. You make a lot of sense.

Please tell me this is a joke
I thought our offense was tops in the league and our pass defense was AWFUL!!!!!!!! Come on guys.
I can't believe it's this close
and I hope it’s not the only factor in the BRB fake FO’s final decision…

all this comes down to
is which side offers more Zima, plus has a larger number of voting partcicpants that enjoy puppet shows
some formula therein…
Are you breakin' out your sock?
Little CB?
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
I have to confess
I created 34 aliases and voted for Prince with each one….

I tried with mine.
But they pre-empted my strike. Kudos.
Then again, how many more of us have some, that they wouldn’t know about?
What was that about a BRB Mock Conspiracy?
I'd say Julio
If the Texans are actually going to pursue Jonathan Joseph. A vet corner will make the defense better much faster than a rookie CB. I’d hate to miss out on a WR of Julio’s caliber at 11. The vote is really tight though.
Conspiracy Theory
Am I the only one that believes all of our outcast Colts fans are voting for us to have another starting rookie CB?
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
I don't think it's a theory
they’re stuffing the ballots for Prince

I actually purposely refrained from voting.
Jordann did plead for us to vote for Julio though.

You are correct, sir!

This is a joke if we pass on Julio Jones.
c’mon man.
Why?
Because he ran a fast 40 with a broken foot? Prince is actually considered the better prospect by most analysts and fills a bigger need.

So does the voting determine the pick alone or is it only one factor?
I really expect that with only about a 10 vote difference, our BRB FO would select Jones.
Let me just say, the Real Texans FO is watching the voting very closely
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
I will be shocked if our "real" FO
Goes with either player.
I am expecting to be “surprised” by a pick we could never have guessed. Then I will be "well, I guess he is OK, though I never heard of Tyler Graves from Troy.

Maybe we should get Tyler Graves on the poll and have a revote?
