Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Unlike most years, undrafted free agents are still, well, free agents. The link above takes you to the list of 2011 undrafted players. Until the lockout is resolved, no one can sign, and some suggest that these guys may look at the CFL, UFL, and Arena League as serious options depending on how long this drags out. Still, the lockout won't stop us from speculating. I have seen some comments here and there about who to go after, so I thought there was some interest in a thread dedicated for this purpose.

Some names I wouldn't mind seeing in Houston: All-American P Chas Henry (Florida), WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Ohio State), FS Deunta Williams (North Carolina), NT Ian Williams (Notre Dame), LB Mark Herzlich (Boston College), QB Pat Devlin (Delaware), and C/G Zane Taylor (Utah).

Anyone catch your attention?

Love it. As a UFA, he’d be great fun. Obviously smart, with his degrees. And he’d help make our guys stronger, just by his weightroom prowress.

He is clearly a freak.

But does he have the character to be a Texan?

Texas. Gods favorite country.

He went to one of the ten best engineering schools in the country for a reason

So I think he would

Honestly

With those measurables I’d expect him to be much more dominant against what looks like Texas HS Football competition. Too many times he just stood straight up and tried to manhandle a lineman. That would not fly in the pros. But yeah, he’s definitely a work out warrior and would be a highly sought after commodity in Houston’s Oil and Gas Industry if he gets cut.

Blind fandom is all I got left. That and this bottle of Clorox. And this Drano. And this lamp. And this paddle ball game.

Herzlich

Character and smart. Remember, after the 08 season, he had a high 1st round grade. If he can get his speed back, he’s a crazy steal.

Hell, yeah

I think he’d be getting a bunch of calls once free agency opens up

I say Joe lefeged

Herzlich is a great story, but I don’t see him ever being the same, and personally would rather have a veteran who played 3-4 ILB than a rookie with health issues as my backup to a guy with and Achilles injury and a guy who may or may not exceed at a new position

Lefeged would be a ST ace and could eventually play some at safety

by AllenOU on May 2, 2011 10:38 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

For a rookie FA contract

It’s not a risk at all to take Herzlich and bet on him.

And for a former cancer patient, Houston is the best place to come to

Herzlich would be a great fit in Houston

I am so on board with Sumner from CSoM

Also, Deunta Williams and Deadndre McDaniel at safety. Ian Williams at NT. Herzlich for ILB. Kendrick Burney looks great at the Senior Bowl as well.

Kris O’Dowd to try out at center. Henry Hynoski at fullback.

Terrence Tolliver, Ricardo Lockett, Deandre Brown at receiver.

And if they desperately wanted a TE, Weslye Saunders. Weak character, lots of talent.

The strong do what they have to do; the weak accept what they have to accept

We could have a UDFA "draft" better than some teams real thing!

Sumner/ Ian Williams
Deunta WIlliams/ D. McDaniel
Kendrick Burney
Chas Henry
Tolliver

You forgot Herzlich

Didn't need Herzlich.

Great guy, great story, we have enough LB. Every position above addressed immediate need. Herzlich doesn’t.

ILB Depth is necessary, which he would be

We found that out the hard way last season

Terrance Tolliver

I think the kid from Hempstead, Texas might be a good fit. The kid went to a big time school in LSU and improved to a good reciever by the time his senior year rolled around. I think he has a chance because he is a homestate kid.

big receiver

I go to LSU, so might be guilty of being a lil bias, but Tolliver is a big receiver with great athleticism. Ppl will look at his stats and be concerned with his consistency. Terrance didn’t have a qb his last two years here. He was anointed to the next big WR for the tigers post d-byrd and brand lafell, but Jordan Jefferson ruined his career.

When Lee or jefferson were able to get him the ball he got the job done. if you wanted to look at highlights or stats to measure his potential. Look at his performance in the Cotton bowl (2011), Florida game (2010),and then look back at his freshman and sophomore years.

Trust Me

You want Sanzenbacher…..he is better than both David Anderson and Kevin Walter and his work ethic will allow him to outperform Jacoby…..kid is tough as they come, sure handed, and has a knack for big plays….would have been a mid-round pick if not for 2 concussions in 2008

We need a true NT badly. At 6’1 320, Williams is exactly that.

Look at Blaine Sumner

other undrafted free agents

Mark Herzlich the lb from BC would be a great addition. Obviously, he has this great football story that is inspirational. But this guy has heart. and he has proven that he is on the road to recovery.

the qb from delaware, Pat Devlin, would be a great signing too. he broke most of schaub’s high school records in the state of the pennsylvania. he transferred to delaware bc he wanted to play and not sit behind Daryl Clark. just think he could be a good project sitting behind Schaub. plus the last qb to come out of delaware is kinda alright.

by vida311 on May 3, 2011 1:10 PM CDT reply actions

Mark Scheichl

From the same team Blaine Sumner is on. He set a Division II record with 46 sacks over 3 years I believe. His measurables are off the charts and all he wants is a chance!

I want him over Blaine Sumner honestly. But I think the chances are good that we get one of these guys with Kubiaks ties to all things Colorado. Although, I know Jacksonville had Scheichl in for workouts as well….
