I've seen things like this a few places around the web now, including a couple on Yahoo sports. I'm not holding my breath, but I will go ahead and cross my fingers. How 'bout you?

This FanShot should have a poll, shouldn't it?

“When do you think the Lockout will end?”

I at least would take part in a poll.

That's a cheap shot

Hell’s already frozen since something happened that made Houston fans root for a Dallas team.

True story

I don’t watch NBA, but some friends over tonight enjoying BBQ with us watched the final game and pulled for Dallas over Heat as you mentioned. Meh, at least it’s not Jerah’s team!

by MeMongo on Jun 12, 2011 10:11 PM CDT up reply actions

The Mavs aren't the Cowboys, so I had no problem cheering them on.

They aren’t arrogant and conceited, no ridiculous self aggrandizing labels like “America’s Team”, and as goofy and immature as their owner is, he’s a likable guy. I mean, how many self made billionaires wear clothes you could buy at any local Wal Mart?

Nope, as much as I dislike the city I can’t find anything worth hating about the Mavs. Congrats to Dirk and J-Kidd for finally getting theirs.

Yeah, I know what you mean

We would have like Cuban a lot more if he had bought the Astros

I was rooting for this so hard...

…when his supposed bid for the Rangers fell through.

Although the other owners would never have approved the sale to an ownership group that included Cuban.

And he showed he'll spend money to build a championship team from scratch

Really think about, he’s had the team for a decade now. What did they have before he bought the team? He’s also showing that he’ll spend the money to celebrate a championship, since he said he’ll foot the bill on the parade

I love him as an owner.

I just don’t think the other MLB owners would want to have to deal with him, which is why I’m skeptical they’d approve a sale that involved Cuban. I had the same feeling when he was rumored to be interested in buying the Cubs a while back.

Did you hear Fay Vincent recently?

He actually compared Cuban to Steinbrenner. Cuban doesn’t overpay & isn’t destroying the NBA’s pay scale. Cuban isn’t having his own players investigated looking for a way to nullify a contract. Cuban ain’t firing his coaches left & right just cause he can. Cuban is no Steinbrenner. Cuban takes cares of his players & the fans cause at heart he’s the ultimate fan. Not to mention he not only buys a $90,000 bottle of champagne for his guys to celebrate with, (see below)

he gave the wait staff a $20,000 tip on top of it. Now that’s the kind of owner guys would love to play for. What’s really sad is that he outbid both bids for the Cubs & Rangers & he didn’t get either team. I say again, He Offered More Money To Buy The Cubs & Rangers & MLB Went With The Other Offers.

Hell, with everything I’m starting to hear about Jim Crane, I won’t be surprised if MLB rejects him cause of the controversy around his other previous business endeavors. Maybe Cuban might have a third chance to buy a MLB team

I was wondering who the old dude in the cowboy hat was!

Then Stuart Scott announced that it was the founder of the team. I thought that was a class act all the way too. Not only that but Cuban didn’t hog the spotlight either, unlike another Dallas owner…..remember when Jerrah ripped the Lombardi trophy out of Switzer’s hands??

I just think it's awesome that now

The Cowfarts are the one team in Dallas (sorta) that has gone longest without at least a championship game appearance.

Geez, Jerrah, even the RANGERS got to the World Series since you last got to the SB.

While Mark Cuban touched the trophy, he was quick to pass it

I have a new perspective on him. I think he has a new perspective on the game, too. I actually respect the guy, now. I’m happy for Cuban. I think it means a lot to him, and not in the yelling screaming way.

I'd like to add, as a longtime Celtics fan

Having Bill Russell there to pass on the trophy named in his dedication was awesome. How old is he? He has to be late 70s. He still looked like an imposing man. Imagine him back in the day! He was a one of a kind athlete.

I didn't want the Mavs to win

Because in pro sports the only thing Houston had that Dallas didn’t was an NBA championship. Now that the Mavs have won, tho, the Texans will just have to win the Super Bowl this year to make up for it.

so I think it’ll get done, especially since just about every reliable source is reporting about this.

So, even in a best case scenario...

we still get another month of melodramatic posturing from both sides?

I think both sides have a decent idea of the legal parameters, but not so much that they are immune to negotiating some of the finer points of the dispute. Another month sounds close enough to me. If it works out that way, I’ll be happy.
