Rumor Mill: Matt Hasselbeck Going to the Titans?

Sure, the players are locked out and it's not business as usual. But, that doesn't mean reporters are sitting on their keyboards. John Glennon of the Tennessean has started a rumor that the Titans may nab Seattle Seahawk free agent QB Matt Hasselbeck to come in to be the starter and tutor rookie QB Jake Locker. Coincidentally, several members of the Titans were formerly with the Seahawks. "General manager Mike Reinfeldt, vice president of player personnel Ruston Webster and director of pro scouting Lake Dawson all spent time in Seattle", says Glennon. QB coach Chris Palmer has been friends with the Hasselbeck family since 1986, sharing good times digging for clams at Cape Cod. Locker and Hasselbeck have been working out together in Seattle. And it just so happens that with the promise of Vince Young departing and another year added to Kerry Collins' binge.... seems that this story might have some legs. A veteran QB with some mileage on him, limited mobility and an average arm. Hmmmmm... Wade Phillips is drawing up a play for Mario Williams as Kenny Britt is arranging bail.

Been a rumor all summer

Doesn’t not bother me one bit, Hasselcock is washed up.

I wish we could hire coaches without "having grown up in Houston" being a job requirement.

You mean Glasselbeck here right?
QB coach Chris Palmer has been friends with the Locker family since 1986, sharing good times digging for clams at Cape Cod.

Locker’s a Washington resident, has been his entire life.

Also, as the local Seahawks fan, Glasselbeck going to the BE-SFs barely concerns me. I personally think he doesn’t have anything left in the tank, but if he did, he’d be going to a decent situation. Their line isn’t complete crap (which until recently, the Hawks could not claim), they have an established running game (again, until recently, the Hawks couldn’t claim that) and I think people are starting to catch on to how to stop Chris Johnson, but he’s only got the one receiving threat in Kenny Britt. So as long as Britt gets covered, Matt won’t have many other decent options to throw at.

Hey, Adams? Why the hell you targeting UW and Seattle players?! Neither of these guys have former Oilers ties!

Yes, I think the BESFs have too many problems to overcome this season

If they had the continuity of Fisher staying on, I would give them more hope. But, with the coaching changes, player changes, and the defensive shortcomings, the BESFs aren’t challenging this season. Hasselbeck doesn’t necessarily improve things on the field. I wonder how he could help them in the long run with Locker, though.

Probably acting as a second QB coach to Locker is my guess.

After all, it’s what Favre did with Glasselbeck when he was starting out.

I’m just glad Glasselbeck missed the day when Favre tried to teach him about sending obscene texts of schlongs to attractive female reporters.

Yes, I think sexting wasn't in, back in the day

Whenever this team is in turmoil, which it is right now, I wonder what evil plans are running through Bud Adams’ noggin. Perhaps, some non-sensical deviousness about who will give him a 7th round draft pick for VY…..

Probably plotting to get Andrew Luck still.

They have a very real chance on that

I would like to see someone try to analyze the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes coming up this season. You know, take a look at the teams that are competing in it and look at the foolish moves they have made in the past year as they jockey to be at the head of the pack. I think that would be very interesting to read about and it would be interesting on a national sports news basis. I wonder if anyone writing here has the wherewithal to do that kind of research….. wondering….

Maybe the idea behind drafting Locker is to develop him for one year

They’re probably gonna tank the season so they can get the #1 pick, but they hope Locker at least looks good so they can trade him for a high draft pick & still get Andrew Luck as their QB of the future

So,

Draft Locker and let him sit one year under the tutelage of, maybe Hasselbeck, meanwhile, tanking the season as maybe Hasselbeck sets some records of the bad kind, thereby assuring the BESFs of the winning ticket in the Andrew Lucky Sweepstakes.

Is that too obvious? Probably, but it just might work.

I wouldn't like this to happen.

Hasselbeck is one of my favorite players, don’t need him to be tainted by the evil that is the Titans. I mean, I already had to give up on Locker…

Hasselbeck will go there to teach up Locker for a year while tanking the season

Watch Satan go & draft Andrew Luck, then turn around & sell Locker off to the Seahawks for everything he can get out of them

Lord help me,

First Locker being drafted by the Traitors, now talk of Glasselbeck going to Tennessee, and the crowning turd in the punchbowl, there’s talk about VY going to Seattle.

If this and Clay Bennett ain’t proof that God hates Seattle sports teams, I don’t know what is.

Yes, I heard that about VY...

But, I heard this also: Matt Leinart going to Seattle to be reunited with his mentor, Petey Carroll. How does that make your hot tub bubble?

I actually think I'd rather have Leinart than Radio in Seattle.

I’d rather have Charlie Whitehurst than Radio.
I’d rather have David Carr than Radio.
I’d rather have RYAN-FREAKIN’-LEAF than Radio.

I'm hearing that it will be between Charlie and Matty

I think Leinart would win that showdown. The only thing is, I don’t know if he will have enough time to transition and get the coaches’ confidence before the season starts and then he would have to wait for Charlie to fail.

What if Satan offered Locker to Seattle for their 1st round pick during the next draft if they get Andrew Luck?

Would you be be comfortable with your Seahawks making a deal with the devil?

You do ask the tough ones, don't you?

It would depend on how Locker was looking after the season. But if the Hawks were in contention to get Luck, forget it.

Let's say he doesn't play one game outside of preseason, & Glasselbeck (miraculously) plays the entire season

Do you want Locker if you don’t have a shot at getting Luck? Would you cringe at the thought of having to having your Seahawks trade for Locker after being tainted by Satan’s BESFs?

If none of the other QBs on the Hawks roster panned out, yeah.

He at least has the potential to be a franchise QB. After a couple of years, I can just pretend the whole thing in Methopotamia never happened.

I would approve of this move.

Our (nearly?) bottom ranked defense should be licking its chops dreaming of going after that guy.
