Here's a scouting report on Pauga.

That sound you just heard is Vonta Leach NOT being re-signed.

Edit: We love Vonta, we do. But he played in only 38% of offensive snaps on the year. According to ProFootballFocus, almost the entirety of his 2010 value is derived from the first Colts game. Vonta was awful in 2009. If we don't re-sign him, it will not be the end of the world.

Saw this coming realy

Kubiak’s offense is famed for [insert RB here] to be modular. There’s no way a FB is going to rack money in this system. Let’s just hope Foster tears it up again so well that he gets a pay day.

Only 38% of the snaps? That was fewer than I thought…..I’m okay with not re-signing him. Pauga’s a camp body unless he shows something more than Casey.

Just another camp body.

Texans need 90 guys for training camp. But I did see Vonta going regardless. Not enough value in this system to warrant a big contract.

No matter how bad it gets,I will believe. It's the only thing I have left for the Texans.

Kubes Rocky Mountain High

continues unabated. Zac is from Colorado State. It appears that he was never a tight end though……

Everything I read on Pauga says he’s a great receiver out of the backfield.

Yeah.

I seem to recall a 40-yd TD grab from him when I was looking at FBs before the draft.

Yep

Never mind the fact the Texans have allegedly inked 18 players since yesterday. THE FO SUCKS!

Also, let’s look at the CSU players we feel forced to grab: Joel Dreessen and Mike Brisiel SUCK.

A Texans fan. Really. No, I'm not kidding.

He had to go to the Colorado State pipeline

Is that horse dead yet?

I'm not talking about them panning out

I’m just talking about sticking obsessively to that pipeline. I’m not sure what we have more of, TEs or Colorado State alumni

Fixed it for you

I’m just talking about sticking obsessively to that pipeline. I’m not sure what we have more of, that we have enough TEs or Colorado State alumni

I feel like thats irrelevant

If we look good, we might psyche the other team out into thinking we are actually good, which could go a long way.

Addition by subtraction.

casey will be the full back, and the best reviving full back in the league.

by Carter Liles on Jul 26, 2011 12:46 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

Just because

…we sign an undrafted fullback doesn’t mean Leach won’t be back. With such a short free agent signing period it may be that Leach doesn’t get a huge offer with other teams trying to address other key positions. And with that Leach might sign back here for less than what he would have envisioned. I don’t think it’s a crap shoot he’s gone. I agree that there are other options, but let’s see how this all plays out…

by Eddie C on Jul 26, 2011 5:28 AM CDT reply actions

We signed 2.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Jul 26, 2011 8:28 AM CDT up reply actions

I doubt he's back

…but here’s my guess. The Texans told Leach to see what he can get and they will see if they can match it. Since someone will likely pay him well the Texans are hedging their bets and making sure they have some options going into camp.

If Leach only gets offered a low impact deal we could still see him back in Houston. Unlikely? Yes, but it’s not entirely out of the question….yet.

by papabear on Jul 26, 2011 8:44 AM CDT up reply actions

Agreed, they are hedging their bet, but it is likely Leach is gone

Even at a decreased rate if that is the best another team offers, the Texans can still save money with Casey and one of these other guys, then have that money for a good DB free agent.

Can anyone confirm yet whether or not we signed Terrance Tolliver?

I’ve seen it reported in a couple of places with uncertainty.

Welcome to Houston, J.J. Watt, Brooks Reed, Brandon Harris, Rashad Carmichael, Shiloh Keo, T.J. Yates, Derek Newton, and Cheta Ozougwu!

Rick will re-up with Vonta

Because I custom ordered a Vonta jersey after the Colts season opener.

Reason enough, right?

by clarky1661 on Jul 26, 2011 9:05 AM CDT reply actions

This needed to be said.

Too much emphasis has been placed on Leach while the efforts of our tremendous run-blocking O-line combined with Foster are far more important. 38% of snaps you say? That sounds about right, and Foster ran pretty well out of single-back sets when he had to.

by Olive_Oyl on Jul 26, 2011 10:33 AM CDT reply actions

I think a lot of fans have been suffering from separation anxiety when it comes to Leach

It’s tough to say goodbye to someone who played well and should continue to play well.

I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
