Vonta Leach Signs with Baltimore - So Long and Thanks for All the Crushed Linebackers
Via PFT and several other outlets.
In my personal opinion, this was the correct move for the Texans. It's going to hurt, yes, but we had to pay attention to the defense this off-season.

if thats the case then gonna take more than Jonathan Joseph for your team to even make the playoffs lol
no offense but just saying but its cool my team got a great football I kinda thought it was strange that Houston wasnt able to atleast give him 11 million for 4 years like my team just did because that sounds very cheap

you’re right , Its going to take Joseph and a good S to make the playoffs, and we have one in Manning.

Yeah I honestly think your team is very talented and have all the right pieces to make to the playoffs
. I guess the only thing that needs to work out for the team is the defense ability to adjust to a 3-4 defense and maintain a good running game because it opens it the passing game even more

totally agree, but
Wades D is more like a 5-2 front and is a lot more like a 4-3 than an actual two gap 3-4. I do think its going to take a few weeks to fully learn his D, but hopefully by week 5 they know everything in the playbook. This should be our best Defense in our short history.

Vonta is a helluva blocking FB, and Balto loves a tough rushing attack.
Great fit. But you guys could still use more weapons, right? I mean, field goals are nice, but…
I’ll definitely miss Vonta, though I’m also confident that someone else will fill his role, in Houston.
One player doesn’t fix our defense, I agree. Then again, JoJo is a starting CB. He should be out there, every down. FB position (Vonta) is more of a specialist.
JoJo replenishes our defense, by adding talent, where we had none.
Vonta replaces McClain. Possibly an upgrade, then again, it’s probably negligable.
I think your team should just go after fullback Lawrence Vickers he not vonta but he
better than the rest of the fullbacks on the market right now and is a very solid run blocker he helped browns running back peyton hillis have a great season and he did the same with Jamal Lewis back in 2007.
But you guys could still use more weapons
well we did draft two wideouts and signed James Hardy who our coaches seem to have faith in but we released two of our best receiving weapons in Derrick Mason and Todd Heap.heap has signed to the cardinals and if we dont bring Mason back it could be rough for our offense if there isnt any other veteran wideout signed or atleast our rookie/inexperienced young guys start to have a tough time

Sounds like there could be some confidence in your kids. I hope it works out well for you guys.
I think we’ll fill Vonta’s old role. Koobs values a good rushing attack, and we’ve anticipated losing Vonta for awhile, apparently. Casey has been in fullback apprentiship for a few years now. Must have stuck around this long for a reason.
I hope it works out well for my team as and I hope your team works out also .I got a feeling your team will be better than last year

All the best to Vonta in BAL. I’m glad he got paid.
I’m very excited to see what Casey can do at FB. I think he’ll add a dimension to the offense that wasn’t there before.

For the record, I will rec any post with a Douglas Adams reference in the title
I will reiterate my thoughts from the other thread: Vonta was one of my favorite Texans, and I’ll miss him. I think it had to be done though, the money had to go to the defense, and there weren’t enough Orlovkys to cut and make the budget work.
Good luck and the best of success to Vonta, except when he plays us

please remember...
We didn’t just get a corner this year! We got SOOOOO much more. We got competence in the coaching and talent evaluation! We got a new attitude and a system the players seem to be buying into already. We got actual defensive schemes now. We got a NEW DE. A new #1 CB, 2 new safeties, Barwin and CAPN" Meco back. Jason Allen and maybe Mark Anderson for an offseason. Wario will be lined up on TE’s and RB’s and we brought back all but 1 (2depending on how much you liked Pollard/Amobi/DA) of our free agents we wanted to keep. So we did need more than just 1 player. We got more than 1

Fantasy wise I hope so.
I know it was necessary to do. on a more personal note…I just don’t want to get embarrassed, i had slaton my first year of the keeper, and he was a bust, and i was intuitive enough to trade for Foster before our draft, and obviously i’ve been a big fan ever since…all my friends are saying that he’ll be a one year wonder like slaton…hopefully not. He’s my fav player, and I’d hate to see him go through what Slaton did.
Slaton was flawed from day one, but it still makes you wonder.

Fantasy was what got me into the Texans
I’m from Canada and I got on board because I picked a bunch of Texans on my team, so they kinda go hand in hand for me, and I became a huge Foster fan, so I guess what I was trying to say, and what got misconstrued, is I want to see him succeed statistically, which would in turn help the team succeed…hence the “personal note” comment. Anyways…it’s hard being a texans fan when 95% of the population here in CA don’t even know they exist, and I take it personally when people chirp my team/players I like….just trying to support my team any way I know how…I’ll note the for next time.

In a rarity...
…going to have to disagree with you, Chris.
FB lead blocking is all about pad level. Casey is a big dude, but also tall. I think he’s going to have a hard time being a truly effective lead blocker, though just getting in the way can have its merits, as well.
What Casey gives us that Vonta never did was the ability to rush and, especially, catch the ball out of the backfield (Vonta’s drop rate was right around 10%. That makes JJ look like a possession receiver.).
Overall, I see it as a slight net loss, but there’s a good chance Dennison and Kubiak can turn Casey’s ability into a net gain.

REgarding the height issue
Watch Casey run. He runs with a low center of gravity, IMO.

And he naturally leads with his shoulders.
He’s going to be a bull, trust me.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
I wondered
if that was true too. Moose didnt look that tall. Plus who knows if Thor is actually 6-3. Might be closer to 6-2. I havent payed attention to his blocking. But I trust the coaches offensive minds.
Vonta Leach is gone???
Just as everyone was praising the Texans for doing something smart this off season by signing two great defensive DB via free agency and then THEY DO SOMETHING STUPID BY LOSING VONTA… Don’t sit there and tell me they couldn’t afford 11M for 3 years for him. Come on Rick! Grow some balls will ya?
They still needed to sign Watt with what was remaining in our cap
but we may have enough to sign Vickers who almost as good as leach if not equal to leach but at half the cost.

Good on Vonta to get his
but I don’t think the offense misses a beat. BFD’s done a great job of explaining a lot of the reasons why Leach didn’t have that kind of value in the offense.
"Lord, beer me strength."
totally within the realm of possibility...
That Koob being the offensive mad scientist that he is had already planned on installing more formations which got Casey on the field during the offseason. since he’s added like 20 pounds, seems like he himself knew that there was a strong chance that maybe Leach was gonna sign elsewhere? i remember the old tagline here used to be “In Smithiak We Trust” and to me it’s never changed.
