"I would tell the people that ask that question that if you put Jacoby and Kevin Walter’s numbers together last year, they add up to about 102 catches and 1,200 yards, and that would be the best number two receiver in football," Kubiak said. "I like our two players. I think they’re both damned good players."

I'm not against this, but I'm not with what Kubes said.
That reason was stupid as hell.
As for our #2 WR, we have one, he just won’t be the #2 for a year or so. Of course, I’m talking about Dorin Dickerson.
He’ll be ready to contribute regularly by next season (if not this season), and after that, he will hopefully take off in terms of production. I would rather us wait a year or two for him than overpay a decent #2.
Hell, Dickerson’s ceiling is a very good #2 WR.
"Hakeem couldn't kick your ass cuz you were too
close kissin his!"- Sir Charles to Kenny Smith.
I'm sorry
but i wont believe that Dorin is our future #2 WR untill i see him put up #2 numbers constantly. he hasn’t seen any real playing time against starting CBs so I wont say that he is our #2. However, I’m not saying that he can’t become one.
and the clouds opened up and God said "I Hate you Texans Fans."
Agreed
Dorin’s physical numbers upside is tantalizing, but I feel like people are overhyping a 7th round draft pick who has had about 25 meaningful snaps at a position that he didn’t even play 2 seasons ago.

By saying
He could easily replace Jacoby Jones in the #3 role or that he could step into the #2 starting job relatively soon. I know it’s not everyone, but the expectations seem to be getting up there to the point where I wonder if people remember his situation.
I’m as optimistic as anyone here. I love knowing that Dorin’s studying with Andre in Houston and has spent time learning with Larry Fitzgerald this off-season in Minneapolis. I just think these expectations for this season, by some, are a bit much. I’m surprised that many want to depend on the 7th round pick who has barely seen the field while making a position transition….after an off-season that will have taken a lot of practice time….especially when this season seems to have the “playoff or bust” attitude.
"Lord, beer me strength."
Okay, now that you mention all that, he's officially overhyped!
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
Here's another way to put it
Does anyone here think Rick Smith somehow found a #2 WR in the 7th round?
I have not been thinking that way
This is a player that few had even heard of before the draft. But with all that has been said, and knowing he does have speed, size and hands, and having seen him up close and personal, I don’t put it outside the realm of being possible that he can be a WR1, eventually. But I am not predicting it or expecting it. I just want to see him play and get the chance to help this team. I do expect that! Is that hype? If 1,000 other posters feel the same way, is that hype? I might call it optimistic anticipation. Hype. Without looking up the definition, I would call that exuberant over-expectations and predictions of unearned glory. Dickerson, for one, does not have the personality of an overhyped athlete. He is grounded and I think his supporters are grounded, too.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

That's realistic
I want to see him take snaps away from Anderson…and maybe push for some red zone time with his size and leaping ability.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I don't mean you, specifically
But I just think its kind of funny how everyone wants Rick Smith fired for not being able to find the right talent, but then turn right back around and think Dorin can replace Kevin Walter, Casey can replace OD and now Leach, etc.
I think both those guys have a huge upside and of course want them to become great players. But right now, for this season, I’ll take K-dub, OD and Leach.

Someone talking out of both sides of thier mouth!!?? on BRB!!??
Seriously though, Dickerson has the physical qualities of a freak WR1 being 6-2 or 6-3ish, 225 lbs and still puttin up 4.4 forty times and 1.53 ten yd burst and a 43.5" vert jump.

Kevin has big time routes and Jacoby is big time fast...
So together they’re like the perfect player… Right.
I dont disagree with the overall point Kubiak made, but I kind of get the feeling he gave this answer to a group of 3rd graders.

despise the guy but
paul k from the mothership said it right….if u do that what do u have as ur #3 wr production..its really just one of those statements thats sounds great if ur dumb enough to just accept everything u hear as right and dont actually have ne thought process of ur own
Right its adding up the #2 and #3 together
Add up #2 and #3 from other teams and compare.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
I just thought the Texans hired some guy named Paul

We don't need change in the WR corp right now.
We need to offense to not start games sleep walking and the defense to actually play defense.
We’ve had one of the top passing offenses in the league the past few years so I don’t see why we need to sign someone different. If OD is healthy for a full season he’s our number 2 target and is capable of getting 1000 yards receiving or close to it. Then of course we have Joel and Casey coming up behind him. I expect to see Casey get more snaps on offense this upcoming year. So we have a Pro bowl TE another solid one and a potential 3rd TE who might take OD’s spot after his next contract i up.
Then we have Foster who added 600 yards as a RB receiving. From what I saw of Ben Tate in college he’s also a pretty good receiver.
I don’t think our offense under Kubiak has ever been one that has a truly dangerous #3 WR. It’s basically Andre,OD/other TE,Walter/Jones. Mix in the RB and other players on the roster and you have one of the better passing offenses in the league.
So yeah if you put Walter and Jones together they are the #2 WR Andre is the #1. Although if you went by receiving options and who is the priority I bet it’s Andre #1,OD/other TE’s #2, Walter/Jones #3, and the RB #4.
Just my 2 cents.
No matter how bad it gets,I will believe. It's the only thing I have left for the Texans.

Yes, fix the first quarter stalled offense
We have discussed the play-scripting and I think that is easy to point at, because we know Kubiak does it. I know the purpose and you could also point to the play-scripting as to why the offense clicks after the first quarter. The real detrimental thing we can all point to is the D, which if all goes right, will improve. The other things I can point at are the stupid plays such as the “Q-Tip”, stupid penalties such as Antonio Smith extending drives with personal foul penalties, and coaching blunders such as Kubiak punting from the 35 instead of kicking a field goal, or wasting timeouts, or throwing the flag when its senseless, and the list goes on…..
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
This.
I’m hard-pressed to care about signing a #2 receiver, when the guy is likely to be Schaub’s #4 target. It’s gonna take a damn good player to move ahead of Andre, OD, and Foster in Schaub’s progression.
And as for the oft-cited, “it’ll take pressure off of Andre and Arian” argument. To this I ask, how much more productive could those two possibly be?
Right
I would actually like to see more production out of AJ and I think he can deliver. How about more TDs for starters?
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
Blame that on Foster, he's the TD hawk
Murphy’s 20th Military Law:

or blame it on Schaubs noodle arm.
AJ couldve ended a few drives early for us if not having to run in place for a few seconds waiting on the ball. Although sometimes its not always Schaubs arm, sometimes doesnt it seem like he throws it late? I wonder if its because he has looked at everyone else and finally makes it BACK to Dre when hes a little out of his range already.

I don't know what that was last season.
I remember in 2007 when Schaub seem to do nothing but throw long down field throws on time to Andre in every game he played.
He’s got the arm strength to get it down field but something was up with his timing with Andre.
No matter how bad it gets,I will believe. It's the only thing I have left for the Texans.
And Walter
He over-threw him several times

WR just isn't a major TD-producer in Kubiak's offense.
Goes back to Denver. OD, on the other hand, does indeed need to step it up in that department; he should be double-digits.
Or in his defense
You could have said it either way:)

You’d have a damn good quarterback and wide receiver.

Its just PR spin
He can’t talk about free agency and such, he always chooses his words carefully and unless he is specifically talking about himself he never has anything negative to say.
I don’t think what he says is the same as what he thinks. He’s very cautious and it is totally hilarious when people read so much into what he says. He just has to find a way to answer a question, without really saying anything. Like he always does.
Concur with Kubes
The way he said it is a little awkward, but the point is, Texan receiving corps minus Dre is as good as any other receiving coprs minus their #1. Hence, no need to go out and spend money on another receiver. Fix problems before trying to make your biggest strength stronger.

It's very important that we get this right.
Wouldn’t want to end up with a receiver that has Walter’s lack of deep speed and Jacoby’s penchant for big-time drops and fumbles.

Ridiculous....
This comment by Kubiak makes no sense whatsoever. So if I understand him correctly, he would rather run a 3 wide receiver set with his WR2 and WR3 only combining to actually be a WR2 (by their stats), rather than bring in a true WR2 and keep Walter, Jones, or Dickerson as the WR3? Why not put two great/solid receivers on the field, along with a complimentary #3 – rather than just AJ and anyone else we can find to add up to the stats of a #2? It’s an asinine comment from a guy who is in charge of the freakin’ team’s productivity. Ugh!
