I will be happy

To see him play well, without sign of injury.

I expect him to be fine.

Yup no injuries is all i care about

I’m also intrigued about how the rest of the secondary plays with Jo Jo on the field. Based off of what Kube’s said, there’s a whole lot of respect garnered to him by the young secondary and i wonder if that forces them to up their game.

I always think of the Raiders game in his rookie season

He punished Purple Drank all day. In one play he shoved him to the ground by his face mask (and if I recall correctly, didn’t get penalized) . I sincerely hope that wasn’t just the juice and he’s able to regain that nastiness this season.

yep, a rec from me aswell. i expect him to get about the same amount of sacks as last year. then the skies the limit. he's not a rookie, so he dont have to get adjusted to game speed and whatnot. he does esentially have to wipe the slate clean tho and

learn sumthing that hes never been asked to do. in that regard he’s alot like a rookie. he will have sum rookie-type mistakes, but he will have a rookie of the year type year tho….get it??

to me,

he has already proved disruptive as a pass rusher. I don’t need to see any picks, or sacks in 4 games. If were 4-0 and Mario has no sacks but reed/barwin/jamison/braman/mitchell have 10…. who cares???

by Carter Liles on Aug 23, 2011 6:54 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't be too dismissive of Farrar

Whether he’s right or not, he’s one of the better football writers out there. He’s been with Football Outsiders for five years. I would trust his judgment a lot more than, say, Peter King or Mike Lombardi. His article has a lot of logic and analysis behind it and is more than just "ZOMG he sux after 2 gamezzz!!!’

That said, nobody is perfect and he is just as likely to be right as he is wrong. But that shouldn’t dismiss the concerns he raises about things like Mario’s height. Those are all valid concerns.

What amuses me is when people say that Mario is "too big" to play OLB

Yeah, and Calvin Murphy was too short, Larry Bird was too slow, Marcus Allen was too small, etc. etc. And since when was big a liability and not an asset?

Yeah I saw that Brees looked very uncomfortable when Mario dropped into coverage. He was like WTF....

Even that screen pass was low and inaccurate and I think it’s because Brees didn’t want to throw it too high because Mario would of easily intercepted it.

I know its a detail thing

but this comment on Manning really stood out to me:

“I’m very confident in knowing what (SS) Danieal (Manning) can do. I’m more concerned with him getting our defense down right now. That answer is probably not a ‘No,’ but we know he’ll be ready to go. He’s been successful doing it, but I want him to concentrate on what he’s doing on the back end right now."

Having Manning focus on truly becoming the best safety in Texans history is much more important than the 10% of kickoffs that will actually be returnable this year.

I rarley like seeing the deffense on the field

I usually just want to watch the offense. Perhaps this is from a mediocre defense the past few years, but this year I can genuinely say I am excited every time the defense gets on the field because I feel like the big play opportunity is there every time they come on.

It will be that much more so when this guy is playing every snap. Can’t wait.

This year i want to see the defense

I can watch a whole Texans game of just nothin but our defense because i think its gonna kill boys. Our offense is fun as hell to watch beffuddle defenses but typically its the same cast of guys doing the damage. I wanna see all this talent on defense without the vanilla

I'm the opposite.

I love to watch good defense. I love the Steelers Ravens games or games with a really good defense playing period.

Of course the best the Texans have ever managed was 2009’s average defense. Hopefully this defense will be fun to watch and manage a lot more sacks and takeaways. That’s what I expect to see. And so far it’s been promising. A lot of work still to be done but it’s going in the right direction.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

This kind of comment:
(on what he wants to see out of OLB Brooks Reed this week) "Like I told y’all, he’s the one player right now that really stands out from a standpoint of every time he gets coached on something or makes a mistake, it’s over, it’s done and there’s a new level that he’s reaching every day as a player with (Special Teams Coordinator) Joe (Marciano) and the defense. I’m very encouraged. He’s pushing players right now and pushing for time. That’s a good thing for our team."

Makes me feel kinda funny, like climbing the rope in gym class.
