Shaun Cody had a great game so
what do you Cody haters have to say???? Maybe Coach Wade knows what he's doing. duh? Defense looked HOT! Great team effort on both D & O. WHAT ABOUT THE JJ'S?? JACOBY Jones looking good on Special Teams AND JJ Watt - awesome!! That pick was right on. Shaub, Tate, Ward....and Andre faking out the camera man....wow. Great game and there's more to come and I can't wait. But damn we shoulda shut out the Colts.....

I think you're confusing Cody with Mitchell
Who got the vast majority of the snaps at NT today.
Also, Cody is still a waste of a roster spot.

Totally says alot about your user name.....
If you watched the game with your BFD glasses, then I could see how you would not notice significant plays when you see them. If you think Cody didn’t play well, then you probably are a BFD. Putting your hatred above the team is not what I would call a true team guy.
Can you give me one example where he stood out?
One? No? We’re done here.

Obvious troll is obvious
Cody had a single fumble recovery (which Mario would’ve gotten anyway). Aside from that he did not register on the stat sheet. Plus, he knew what was up because in the second half he took off his gloves, sleeves, etc.
All these boundaries - Africa, Asia, Malaysia, America - are set by men. But you don't have to look at boundaries when you are looking at a man - at the character of a man. The question is: What do you stand for? Are you a follower, or are you a leader? -Hakeem Olajuwon
I'll have to admit
I didn’t catch too much of what was going on in the middle, I was too busy watching Mario and Antonio dominate the shit out of people.
I wish we could hire coaches without "having grown up in Houston" being a job requirement.

Of the Chiefs had a great game last year at NT on opening day, by mid-season it was back to the usual and apparent he had no business at NT, same with Cody. If the Texans had a dominating NT (can we make Curley Culp 40 years younger?) I would bet house money on a SB trip.

Needs context, though
In 1970, there were precisely three players over 300 pounds. 265 would be a large player for that era. In addition, he was a champion wrestler, known for his extreme strength and toughness.
Nevertheless, those three Oilers you see up there? They were responsible for the carrying out the modern interpretation of the 3-4 defense. Only Elvin Bethea (65) is in the HOF, which is a joke.

I am jumping off the Chiefs. I have been watching the Texans since Kubiak came to town, can’t say I am not dissapointed and expected more but he beats Haley by miles. Until the Chiefs have a major change I will be spending my Sundays watching the Texans (thank you directtv).
Loved DT! If not for postseason meltdowns by the Chiefs offense he would be breathed in the same vein as LT. I like Brooks Reed as he reminds me alot of a young Jared Allen, except he is a olb of course but I think the kid will be a beast.

Please tell me how this describes a guy that had a good game.
Shaun Cody has never filled us with much confidence as a 4-3 DT and we questioned his projection as a starting NT in a 3-4. He didn’t put in exactly a vintage performance in this encounter to put those doubts to rest. Against a none too potent Colts running game he put up a run defense grade of -1.6 and was rather easily controlled on a few inside runs.
Mario Williams will have 4 sacks and 1 int by Game 4 of the regular season.

Gah.
I sympathize, I really do. But you’re taking this to an absurd extreme. The better argument would have been, “Shaun Cody had an adequate game, and the composition of this team (an offense that gets on top quickly and a dominant pass-rush) severely diminishes the value of any potential upgrade at the position.”
But antagonizing people and exaggerating his performance doesn’t really do much for you.

You can do a FanPost charting why Cody is the bestest NT in the NFL. I will post a response, and you can have the final say. Sound good?
Also, too:
- Please prove how my criticisms of Cody mean I hate the team as you said above. I mean, wow, talk about heading straight to ludicrous speed.
- Please prove with screenshots or descriptions of plays showing Cody’s greatness.
- If you include the FR above, then please explain how recovering a fumble is a skill, not a blind hog finding an acorn.
- Please see the quote from a third party, non-biased source, and prove why it’s trash.
- Please use whatever else you have in your arsenal to prove your point besides moronic name calling and SHAUN CODY WHOOOOOO!!!!!

Why you guys let BFD get to you is beyond me. For 2 years i’ve been reading but never posted. It’s painfully obvious he has no knowledge of the game. Numbers dont make you a great player. Playing the scheme does and that is what Mitchell and Cody do. How many “great” NT’s are in the game today? Look who had the most tackles on the team. An ILB I believe. That happens because Cody and Mitchell get “pushed” around in the middle. Its there job to be "overpowered’ by the center and possibly a guard in order to prevent the C and G from blocking the LB’s. Sure they will never be all pro’s, far from it. If you ever paid attention Cody plays the screen as well or better than any Dlineman in pro football. So quit being such a hater and just root for the team, because basically, you dont know squat!!!

What is it with this BS?
Give it up – there ARE fans who don’t agree with you. You asked me to give you some details on reasoning – this guy does and you’re all ….“who are you?” Quit whining.
HAHAH!
Details? What details? This person clearly has no idea what they’re talking about, and they gave details?
An example of details:
@11:54 in the 1st quarter, notice how C Jeff Saturday codys Cody easily, washing Cody into JJ Watt and deftly taking them both out of the play, allowing Addai to pick up 6 easy yards.
That’s detail. Detail is not: SHAUN CODY WHOOOOOOO!!!!!! Watt led the team in solo tackles, not “an ILB I believe.” I mean, jeebus, you can look that up on Yahoo! in like 2 seconds, and they were too clueless to even do that.

Just for you, I will mini-fisk justfb because the comment is so hilariously awful. Sound like fun? Here we go!
Why you guys let BFD get to you is beyond me. For 2 years i’ve been reading but never posted. It’s painfully obvious he has no knowledge of the game.
Really? For two years? I call bullshit. If you had been here two years, you would’ve seen multiple posts on what Cody’s roles and responsibilities are in Wade’s 3-4 system. Read and educate yourself so you can actually learn how to create an argument and, frankly, just figure out what you’re talking about in the first place.
Numbers dont make you a great player. Playing the scheme does and that is what Mitchell and Cody do.
The only thing you got correct in your entire missive. Well, the first sentence, at least. In the second, you lose it again.
How many "great" NT’s are in the game today?
Off the top of my head? Kyle Williams, BJ Raji, Haloti Ngata, Kevin Williams I would call great. Good/above average? Aubrayo Franklin, Sione Pouha, Paul Soliai, Jay Ratliff, Shaun Rogers, Casey Hampton. Sucky? Shaun Cody.
Look who had the most tackles on the team. An ILB I believe.
We’ve gone over this.
That happens because Cody and Mitchell get "pushed" around in the middle. Its there job to be "overpowered’ by the center and possibly a guard in order to prevent the C and G from blocking the LB’s.
We’ve reviewed this, as well. I mean, I can’t tell you how much stupid there is in that sentence. Truly.
Sure they will never be all pro’s, far from it.
No argument here if you’re talking about Cody. Mitchell has the quickness to play Wade’s 1-gap system, at least, so there’s a chance for him. If you were talking about NTs in general, yes, there are good ones who become All-Pros! See the list above.
If you ever paid attention Cody plays the screen as well or better than any Dlineman in pro football.
I’ll agree with you on this, primarily because he’s consistently pushed backward 5 yards, he’s in a better position to read screens rather than an NT who actually penetrates and creates havoc in the backfield.
So quit being such a hater and just root for the team, because basically, you dont know squat!!!
So, because I believe Cody is a crappy player, I hate the Texans? And I should just lay back and take it? Clayton Williams approves.
texan, you can collect as many Cali people you want to come over and defend Shaun Cody, but at least find some smart ones who can do the job. You and justfb clearly aren’t up to the task.

Well it's obvious you don't know how to read....or who plays what position on the field.....or possess any knowledge of the game.
J.J. Watt, a defensive end, led the team in tackles (which, by the way, is not an indicator of a successful game defensively since tackles are the same whether it was a 1 yard run or 50 yard run).
Also…a NT’s job isn’t to be overpowered by a center and maybe a guard. A true NT holds the point of attack by taking on both C and G to clog lanes. A Wade NT is supposed to be disruptive and shoot the gaps which Shaun Cody does not do that. Shaun Cody gets his ass blocked out by one guy. Shaun Cody does not make an impact in the game and should be a reserve at best.

Also, since you seem to be watching football for the first time...
No, the NT’s job is NOT to get pushed around and washed out of plays (let’s call those “codys”). Their job is to hold the point of attack, tying up as many blockers as possible to allow the ILBs to roam free. When you’re being pushed around, you’re not holding your point, but you are creating nice, juicy running lanes for the RB.

What do you know about NT's or defenses?
Wade Phillips – who is going to put Texans back into playoff mode – thinks you are WRONG.
Obviously far, far more than you.
You keep saying “Wade Phillips” like that de facto makes Cody good or something. You DO realize the two are completely unrelated, right?
Here’s your final take-away for this morning. Shaun Cody has the honor of “anchoring” 2 of the 5 worst defenses in NFL history, the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2010 Houston Texans. I don’t normally believe in correlation equals causation, but I have to believe there’s a relationship in this case.
