This should stop people from bringing up Terrell Owens or Randy Moss for about three minutes.

EDIT: Mark Berman reports that DE Tim Bulman was waived to make room for Anderson on the 53-man roster.

Good move by the FO

David already knows this offense, and can make key catches on third down. Excellent acquisition IMO.

I wonder if DA stole anything from the Broncos, John Fox?

Tebow will probably be right behind him…..

I don't hate the signing, but...

In David Anderson’s best season (2009), he was targeted on third down 23 times. The result:

    11 first downs
    8 incompletions
4 completions that did not get a first down

I don’t think we should get super excited about the likely third-down contributions of a guy whose best year as a pro resulted in .7 third-down conversions per game, especially when 52% of the time targeting him on third down did not get a first down.

nothin too fancy, youre right

but you have to compare that to the alternative which is most likely an unproven rookie. Although, I did really like Tim Bulman.

I'd have to see the comparison

between those numbers he put up and other WR4s in the league.

Im not expecting AJ type numbers, that’s why he is available right now.

Well there's other things to consider in those statistics

How many of those were bad throws, etc? I won’t go so far as to dismiss your stats but I know what my eyes have seen when watching DA play here over the years. He may not catch every 3rd down pass thrown to him but he’s made enough big plays to make me a fan.

I don't see why not

I can’t imagine there’s any way Bulman has PS ability, so another club is likely to scoop him up.

I am glad the High motor

of DA is back on the team, yes MDC he is not the best receiver, but I always remember when they need him to catch he would. He doesn’t need to be coached into the offense, and he already has good report with the team. plus he gives us someone to tell LDJA12 off

Nah, I don't hate him.

I just think the fanbase has overrated him and somehow come to the conclusion that he was good and/or valuable when, really, he was mediocre at best. He’s a fun gun. He’s entertaining. He’s just not much of a receiver.

Possibly true, BUT...

there are a whole lot of free agent WRs out there right now. Unless the most important factor was being familiar with the current offense, it’s hard to imagine that one of them wouldn’t have been better than an undersized, gritty WR with a mediocre resume.

Dunno. I don’t hate the move. It just feels so … predictable? Unimpressive? Something like that.

I would rather see them take a chance on Moss and if he doesn't work out, no big thing.

by Rip Jersey on Sep 14, 2011 6:34 AM CDT up reply actions

While I do think that Moss could be valuable as a #2...

I think he:
- is still extremely emotionally unstable
- is still viewing himself as a WR1
- would only thrive in a place where he felt “LUCKY” to be on the roster (that ain’t here)
- would be VERY expensive (see point #2)
- would be unreliable (“I play when I WANT to”)
- would be a distraction to a team that still needs how to win consistently

I think I could go on… but there’s really no point.

Moss?

ppl need to stop getting hung on on name recognition and think about what we need. Moss is good for running a go or a post, thats about it. He isn’t going to block anyone, he’s not going to run across the middle, he’s not going to work hard, and he’s not much of a team player. How does this help fill our need?

I wish we could hire coaches without "having grown up in Houston" being a job requirement.

by DaGoaT on Sep 14, 2011 7:40 AM CDT up reply actions

There's a spot on the roster for a couple weeks is all

Filling in for Walter? No. That is not what I would want Moss for. I would want him for exactly what he is good for and as mentioned above, go routes.

I think there are players already on the roster who can temporarily fill in for Walter until he makes his comeback. That is when we decide if the Randy Moss experiment worked. Just two weeks is all I’m asking.

I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

by Rip Jersey on Sep 14, 2011 10:34 AM CDT up reply actions

In fact, you yourself admit that DA is not filling in for Walter
He’s valuable depth. No one is expecting him to work his way up the pecking order. He’s insurance in case of more injury. He knows the system, works hard, and isn’t afraid to block.

I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.

by Rip Jersey on Sep 14, 2011 10:36 AM CDT up reply actions

indeed

but DA can run an intermediate route tree, will block, will work hard, and is a fine team player. Jacoby can run the go and the post. Moss isn’t going to agree to be our 3rd or 4th WR anyway.

I wish we could hire coaches without "having grown up in Houston" being a job requirement.
