Ask CSC: This Time it Counts Edition

So the last time I made this here post, it was pre season. The Saints got their asses handed to them, with Saints fans rocking back and forward in the corner saying "Vanilla, vanilla" over and over again.

However, the result of that game doesn't count. This time, it does. DUN DUN DUN. You all know how this works, ask a question about the Saints or about the Texans to get an outsider opinion. Afterwards I, or someone much smarter than me, will come by to answer your questions and may try to convert you to his holiness, Breesus Christ.

I hope you guys enjoyed that last joke, since Andre Johnson is likely to kill me for speaking blasphemy against him. It might even look something like this:

Drew Brees is in decline, but he is trying to deny it by throwing for 6 TD’s, 0 INT’s and over 600 yards in his first two games this year.

I still don’t see the decline, but it could be the Purple Drank and Juicy Fruit (inside CSC joke) talking.

How potent is Houston's offense without Foster

and what game plan do you think they will use offensively if he is unable to play?

by Valmo on Sep 20, 2011 3:03 PM CDT reply actions

Not much of a drop off, if any...

Tate if filling in well. Both games have been 100+ yards for him

by RaY210 on Sep 20, 2011 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions

The redzone offense hurts without him.

With all do respect to Tate he’s not the same threat there Foster is. You probably saw that in the preseason game. 4 straight Foster runs in the redzone and a TD. He led the league last year for a reason.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

by Ethan Matz on Sep 20, 2011 8:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Foster is a lot more elusive than Tate is

But our line gives RBs holes to run through and Tate seems to be hitting them well. The offense still has Andre and a cohort of talented TEs (Daniels, Dreesen and the TE/FB Casey) that provide a lot of options. Schaub hasn’t really gotten going yet this season, but he’s been solid and we can definitely move the ball through the air. Tate is enough of a threat to keep our play action and bootlegs threatening.

I don’t think the game plan will really change at all whether or not Foster plays.

by ChrisZ on Sep 20, 2011 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Tate is a good alternative...

But after rewatching the last game, I’m amazed at how Foster just seems to glide to the right hole and then explode through it.
Some of that is vision, some of it is good decision making and some of it is just quickness.
However, Tate is a bruiser and while we haven’t seen him break one off yet, it is my understanding that he has “take it to the house” speed.
It’ll be interesting to see.

The difference between Foster & Tate's running styles

is that Foster makes subtle cuts to either avoid contact or keep it to a minimum while still moving forward, whereas Tate doesn’t avoid contact but rather tends to drive through it

Drew hits 8-10 receivers every game. His favorite receiver is the open receiver. If we start having multiple WR’s miss games the passing game may start to suffer.

Here's a question.

What’s your biggest weakness?

Andre Johnson will kick you ass right?

Ben Tate is going to run all over you right?

/Tim ;)

Now to a real question, What’s your favorite and most hated part about the Saints team?

.................

by Schlauton on Sep 20, 2011 5:24 PM CDT reply actions

Ha Ha Ha

Biggest weakness=Linebacking corp is not athletic as a whole. Poor tackling is an increased concern but seems to be getting better.

Johnson=this is gonna be the major problem imo. It all depends on QB pressure. If our blitzes are picked up and Johnson is 1 on 1 we are screwed.

Tate=I’m really not worried about Tate. I think our run defense will be a point of emphasis in this game and we will try to make a statement early. Then again if the poor tackling shows its ugly head again, it could be a long day.

Favorite: Breesus of course. He seems to be playing like it’s a contract year. Oh, thats right it is.

Hated: Have to go back to poor tackling. I can’t count how many times we could have had plays that could have been stuffed in the backfield and have ended up turning into a big gain. I believe Greg Williams won’t continue to put up with this and people will start to get benched if it continues.

by AcquiredPanic on Sep 20, 2011 5:46 PM CDT up reply actions

The first part was mainly a joke.

During the pre-game recon with The Phinsiders someone over there was complaining that Tim’s questions were all about how we were going to kick their ass. So I was making a joke about it.

Poor tackling is something we have had the misfortune of seeing a lot last year. It is surprising to see Pros who have played football their whole life tackling like idiots.

After Watching Both Games

I just Spend my entire work day, not working. Instead I enjoyed the Game Rewind Feature being offered Free this week. The Saints had a good running game, that lived on the outside. Running off tackles and getting to the second level on a regular basis. This game is going to be Physical. Both QB’s will see the turf, there is no doubt about it. Matt Forte had a good day(Sunday), and he doesn’t have the WR corps to take pressure off him, that Tate and Foster enjoy. So my Question to you is. What kind of adjustments will be made to stop the Running Back catching balls out of the backfield? Will it allow Johnson/Jones to be open downfield? (As he always seems to be)

I have absolutely no answer to this but I hope Greg Williams does

Other than maybe Casillas, our linebackers cannot cover anyone it seems. We have tried using SS Roman Harper and he might even have more issues covering than our linebackers. So maybe I should shoot this question back to u and let u tell me what we should do cuz I have no clue.

If your linebackers can't cover

Then you could be in trouble, because we have about 7,092 tight ends who can catch the ball and we use them in the most amazing ways.

If we can stop you within our 30 yard line….absolutely nothing. Like you said, Matt Forte had a good day, and we held them to 3 points in the second half. I doubt there will be very much emphasis on the dumpoff pass especially if our corners decide to show up and play good coverage

Eh not bad. New job's kept me rather busy.

I have to say I really am not looking forward to this game.

I mean aside from the fact that it’s going to be a shootout (which always makes me crazy), my wife is a Saints fan, and we watch football EVERY weekend together. All I know is, it’s gonna be an awkward car ride home that Sunday.

I’m hoping to see consistency from the D. Last week against the Bears they gave up a 50 yard run to Forte then contained him the rest of the day. We held the
Bears to 60 yds rushing which was huge. We hope to see that again this Sunday but you never know.

Not really

If we can get a pass rush to Rapelisberger it’ll be no big deal. Last year we had the Ravens completely worn out, too. A better D and it wouldn’t have even been in OT.

I’m not saying we win those games, those are the other most difficult games on the schedule, but I’m far more worried about this one.

meh, you never know though

I’ve seen games that were touted as shootouts end up 13-10 or something. Both the Saints and Texans (I can’t believe I’m saying this) have pretty good D’s, so it should be a good game either way.

I think the total scoring will be somewhere right around 53. Could go either way, but if I had to bet, I’d go with over. My guess is whoever wins will have to be in the high twenties or low thirties.
