Peyton Manning Opinion Poll
Game 1 is less than a week away. Rumors are flying like doves on the wing in Texas this time of year, about Peyton Manning.
"Colts president Bill Polian says that he is not aware that Peyton Manning needs a second neck surgery."
A lot could be read into that statement. Does Peyton Manning need a second surgery and is Bill Polian just uninformed? Or, is the report literally accurate and, in fact, Peyton Manning does not need a second surgery and that is what Bill Polian is aware of?
Either way, there are questions about Peyton Manning's health going into Game 1. The Colts list him as Doubtful. That literally means exactly that; it is doubtful that Peyton Manning will play. We can only speculate if he will play. But, we can do that, right? Our thoughts might be about more than just winning or losing the game, too. If he were to play, we might be concerned about his health after the game. When Peyton Manning plays the Texans, he does so at extreme risk, even when he is healthy. He has the biggest target on his chest of any player in the game when he plays the Texans. Witness last season's Game 1 if you question that statement. There are rumors that it was that game that put Manning in the condition he is in now.
Anyways, here is my poll. The question is simple. The answers are simple, But there are so many thoughts that go into the answers that ultimately, only Peyton Manning will provide. Will Peyton Manning play in Game 1?
Peyton Manning has a continuous start record hanging on playing in Game 1. Peyton Manning has Kerry Collins standing by ready to take his place if he can't do it. Peyton Manning has a mad Texans pass rush that has been waiting all off-season for this moment. Peyton Manning has a will that pushes him to heights that we as fans can only imagine. What will he do?

I voted yes
But I really have no idea
I don’t the people that want to play Foster or not based upon Manning playing makes no sense to me. If he is good to go – play him, if not-don’t
Mario Williams will have 4 sacks and 1 int by Game 4 of the regular season.
I voted no...
…based on what I’m hearing about him not practicing I think he’s resigned to not playing. 5Head won’t play without being properly prepared.

I voted yes, but I hope he doesn't
because I don’t think he will be healthy enough. I would hate to see his career end tragically or prematurely because he hurried back to play.

All the Indy blogs
are convinced he’s not playing this week. Or for a while for that matter. They could be overreacting, but who knows…
UTD whoosh
Not to troll here
But Manning will not be playing this weekend. It’s already stated that he won’t be practing this week as all. Since 2003 I believe I heard, no Colts player who was listed as doubtful during game week played that weekend. I’m getting mentally prepared for Manning being out for some time.

thx ColtsFan
Manning has been so dependable over the years, that realization has to be shocking to fans and if I can say so, so shocking to the Colts FO that it seems they are so unprepared that until two weeks ago, Curtis Painter was the only alternative and his viability is in question.

I'm surprised some people still think he will play
He’s got neck problems and back problems. Anything more than rest and rehab is just a huge risk.
I think he played with at least some of these problems late last season
That guy is just as tough as they come.
Except, now he's probably also suffering from complications from what was supposed to be corrective surgery
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
I highly doubt Peyton will play
I’d be willing to say that I am as positive as one can possibly be without knowing for sure that he wont play. He has neck issues and that not something to mess around with. Period. As a Colts fan it hurts to say that, but I feel like its the truth.
Regardless, I hope the Colts put of a decent fight against you guys on Sunday. I’m getting tired of hearing that the Colts are nothing without Manning. Last I checked we still have multiple pro bowlers on each side of the ball without Manning.
Best of luck to you guys on Sunday! I’m hoping for an epic battle! :)
only 21?

We get the W, that's a win
It’s a one point game. That’s a win for the Colts. That’s all I’m willing to give them.
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
close but..
I believe media and fans downsizing the colts as a team and practically humiliating the team by saying they’re nothing without Peyton has given this colts team strong bolletin board/motivational material and they now have something to prove..
This team is proud and be sure they will put up a fight, so I expect the Colts D to step it up big time and also our WR corps to step it up.. all we need is collins to manage the game well..thing he is more than capable to do under the spotlight (se titans 13-3 2008) and Colts pull the upset 20-16
Hope your team does’nt show up thinking the game is already won and underestimate the Colts…. a wounded creature is dangerous..

yep, I too am worried about our guys looking past this game
Hope Kubiak has them ready
That's "fan bulletin board"
The Colts fans think they have some hope
I didn't do anything wrong!.... and, I won't do it again.
I do have hope
Just because texans wont face manning this sunday dosen’t mean they dont get to face Freeney/Mathis/Wayne/Clark/Collie/Garcon/Addai and yes Collins too.. you know sometimes he plays good football like 08 on a 13-3 team afc top seed with not as good WR corps as the colts have.. If our line holds it will be an interesting game..
So I’d it’s ok for Colts fans to think they have some hope colts are a team with many pro-bowlers after all, don’t texans fans have hopes and high expectations every single year just to watch them sink every single year? what makes you hopeful this year will be different for ya’?

It's not the loss of a player that the whole team revolves around that gives me hope
It’s the addition of a great draft class, the return of some awesome players from injury, a new D-scheme that promises to be disruptive, and a top 3 offense. All this gives me hope.

IC
well good luck! and yea not having Peyton is BIG.. but what can we do about it? well have HOPE, hope he makes it back healthy and soon, hope our team play some decent football without him, but why write them off completely like some have done, any given sunday… I really hope all your “unproven yet” improvements really work out for the good ,after 8 years of watching the colts wins I can understand you are ready to give up the bleach, good start last season

your offensive line
does not equal the Titan offense line of 2008, nor does your defense equal the 2008 titan defense. Your running game is nowhere close to the titan running game of 2008. Just admit it, your entire system is built around having a mad scientist at QB, not a drunken gray beard.

It is sad
When you have to go to a Fantasy Football site to get in depth information about a player.
On the other hand, it was a well written article.

I voted no
Granted things from the preseason don’t always translate well into the regular season, but the Texans have been very effective getting to the QB during the preseason. For a guy who isn’t 100% healthy, it would be irresponsible to put him in at this time. Manning is tough and has a quick release that makes it very difficult to sack him, but he still takes hits after the ball is thrown sometimes. It would be safer to keep him out a few games and make sure he’s healthy to play the rest of the season than put him in the first game in his condition and possibly lose him for the rest of the season given the new aggressiveness of the Texans D.
Sadly, voted no
he hasn’t even thrown the route trees, he isn’t going to play until he can get some work in. The Carroll post is a good one. He needs to heal up to the point that his mechanics are right and he doesn’t hurt himself somewhere else chucking the ball around.

Not going to play...
I have switched from hoping he is ready for Game 1 to hoping is is available for Game 5. Even that looks in jeopardy at this point.
If he comes back game 5, I think we can still make the playoffs after a 1-3 start. Probably finish 10-6 or 9-7 if that is the case; which might get us in… that’s really all there is to hope for at this point.

In all seriousness, having hurt my neck playing football...
I hope he has a rapid and permanent recovery. I didn’t suffer a spinal injury, but I was lucky not to do so.
I have a friend who did, in high school
He broke his neck and had rods put in and vertebrae fused, the whole works. He can’t turn his head for the rest of his life. But, he is alive and well. Scrumpdog!
