Whatever. All of the talking heads on the NFL network picked us to beat Indy. We know how that turned out.
If we get all of our offense woes sorted, I think we can beat Cincy. If we play like we played against Carolina, Indy and the 1st half vs. Cincy – we’re fucked.

Bad Feeling
After 5 years of season tickets, I’d hoped for a happy feeling right now. But it ain’t there.
We let the Panthers kick our asses. Then we crumbled vs the Colts. And today, Kubiak essentially told the team “winning doesn’t matter” today. 0-3. I see a regression to the Same Old Texans.
I sure hope I’m wrong and they play like they did vs the Falcons and Steelers. But it is hard to see how they’ll get back out of the habit of losing by next Saturday.
by smokehaus on Jan 1, 2012 9:29 PM CST reply actions 1 recs
I understand your concerns
But kubiak does have 3 rings so I think he knows what to do in order to win in the playoffs. He knows he has to let Yates be aggressive in order to win.

Nice one
With the battered wives comment. Its been tough getting here.
I started the season thinking 11-5, then was ecstatic with their newfound toughness recovering from adversity. Three weeks ago, I beleived 13-3 and making it to the Confetence Championship game.
But these past three weks have been very, very familliar. And I completely disagree with the idea that today’s game didn’t matter. All losses matter. This is a team that wants to win, wants to believe they can win. But this is completely different from, say the Steelers who KNOW they should always win.
The Texans are still a fragile team. One hopes that they’ll respond with anger and passion next week. But that’s what I expected Thursday at Indy.
Winning franchises don’t play half-assed football after wrapping up a division titile.
Indeed
That was a great game. I was screaming my head off in Sec138.
And, for the record, for the past few years I’ve more resempled an overly optimistic Homer than a pessimist. I love this franchise’s character – we are the anti-Raiders/Titans/Cowgirls and I love that.
But my point was that some teams have a killer instinct and faith in their awesomeness. That is something our boys are still creating. I hope it is less fragile than I fear.
I hear ya
but I thought the backups played with plenty of intensity. We lost because of coaching decisions (including benching starters) not player effort. I would rather see Kubiak protect players from injury and give away less of the playbook for the Bengals’ film study, so I’m fine with him losing this one.
If players’ emotions come into play next Saturday, I suspect it will be more of a chip on the shoulder than a culture of losing. Then again, I think the boys in steel blue have had that chip all season… especially Cushing.
When you say coaching decisions it sounds like bad play calling.
We lost for strategic reasons.

We lost because of poor player execution on our last offensive play
If we score 2 there nobody would have anything negative to say. All the talk would be about how our scrubs came back and crushed the Titans playoff hopes. Instead we get a lot of overreaction about a coaching decision that 99.9% of the other NFL coaches that have lost their first 3 QB’s would have made in a game in which the final score had zero impact on playoff implications.
.02
I'm a man!! I'm forty!!
I will give you that.
But not playing starters, or limiting time, is probably what ultimately “lost” us the game. So, it was a strategic decision since the goal was to get the starters and the top backups into next week with as little risk to injury as possible.

This is what I've been sayin
If you look at the big picture, Things look a lot different than what the last 3 games say by themselves. True our scoreboard was smaller after Schaub went down, But Yates was still winning till it didn’t matter anymore. And the Defense had NO dropoff till after we locked up the division. Those guys are still there.

This, exactly
was what I felt after today’s game. Maybe it was tinged with Budweiser-fueled angst, but I just don’t like seeing a trend of losing to 3 pathetic teams in a row. I just refuse to believe that a game before the first-ever playoff game doesn’t matter at all. Would a last-minute win also have been completely meaningless? Is momentum a nonexistent force?

Fans are real into momentum, but
good players/coaching > some intangible theory about emotions affecting the outcome of the game
I'd argue that we have lots of momentum coming out of this game
Our 4th string QB proved he’s not completely washed up. Our converted FB proved he’s still one hell of a receiving threat when targeted. Andre is fully healthy again. Ben Tate ran like a man possessed. Derrick Ward still has wheels. Dobbins and Mr. Alexander are pretty good LB depth after all. Bryan Braman is the berserker we thought he was. Neil Rackers can still hit one from over 50 in Reliant. Antonio Smith hasn’t forgotten how to sack.
And if Dreessen and Austin don’t have brain farts there’s a very good possibility we convert the two points and win A MEANINGLESS GAME.
Those that can’t see the positive in all of that frankly need to turn in their fan cards.

Fans are the only ones affected by the perception of momentum
pro athletes are trained to have short memories, and not just across the span of a few games, but even departing from a bad play to shake it off and re-focus.
The last three games mean nothing, and did nothing to change the situation. They effectively provided the players with full contact practice for the playoffs.
Now 6 AFC teams and 6 NFC teams are all 0-0. Nothing matters except the next game, the next play, period.

Momentum
I’ve never believed in it momentum as a fan or when I played.
But I keep hearing retired players and coaches talk about momentum as an important thing. Seems goofy to me, but then I never played in the NFL and they did.
We have definitely had a completely different feel this year. The Steelers, Bemgals and Falcons games really showed a toughness that they never had before. The last few weeks looked like a relapse. I hope it is temporary.
Momentum exists in the world of physics....
but in this sense it is intangible and doesn’t matter due to the Any Given Sunday theory and variables that are human performance.

I didn't want to lose on the way to the playoffs either
but I totally agreed with Kubes’ call at the end of the game. Win or lose, he didn’t want to play another period of minutes and multiple plays that could get someone else hurt with no tangible gain. It hurt to lose to the BESF’s (especially since I know the meth lab-rats at MCM have probably been chatting up how overrated they think we are since the end of the game-I refuse to give them hits today) but I get it. Now go show me what you’ve been keeping under wraps, Gary.

It all boils down to Gary's sacrificing a couple of games via game scheme and playing time for a healthier
team headed into the first round. We g’set to see next week if the team bought in or not. Additionally, Gary and the team are no longer playing for Gary’s job which was clearly the case at the beginning of the season and half way into the seven game streak.

I remember the last time Houston was in the playoffs and we all had "that feeling"
because the Oilers had been on a winning streak. One Joe Montana comeback later and our team was on the chopping block.. or should I say auction block? Face it, even if the Texans lose in the first round of the playoffs we’re still better off as Houston fans than we were in 1994.
Exactly
Shit happens. Teams lose. It’s a game. The bottom line is this is the best season the Houston Texans have ever had and we’re division champs. Fuck all the rest.

It is what it is. Please don’t spoil my optimism. If we lose, I won’t cowtow because you “told me so” and I really don’t like chewing my nails all week before the game. The confidence we fans had during the winning streak was nice. I have every reason to believe that the Texans are ready for their game, and that the games that the last 3 games do not in any way refect how we will do in the playoffs (except the Carolina game might have caught us by surprise).
That said, I have a good gut feeling that Kubes and the team know something we don’t know, and they are gonna show us some neat shit we haven’t seen before. That first drive by Yates was one of the most solid, decisive, and absolutely dominant drives I’ve seen all year (1st by him)

Can we PLEASE see some 5 yard slants to Andre??
I swear, those used to be our bread and butter passes to start every game under little Shanny, but now we hardly ever use them anymore! The quickest way to get the QB and Andre on the same page was the 5 yard slant. Hell, every team we’ve played in the last month has used them against us! I’m really hoping Kubiak dials them back up because we need Andre to get hot fast next week.

And that cross the field pass to Foster we haven’t seen since Tampa.
If everybody was somebody, then nobody would be anybody - Gilbert and Sullivan
the Casey FB pass routes too
They haven’t used him that way since coming back from injury, and Vickers was pretty piss poor so I’m hoping Kubs dials up some of those THOR passes from the power sets.

except for yesterday
but I think Kubes had to show that hand because Casey has been out, and he needed to see if Yates could run it.
If everybody was somebody, then nobody would be anybody - Gilbert and Sullivan
The passes yesterday came when he was playing TE though, right?
Before he got hurt Kubiak had some brilliant FB pass plays dialed up for him. I want to see that worked back into our power run sets.
I'm a man!! I'm forty!!
I can't do replay, so I can't be for sure if he played TE all game.
It didn’t occur to me to notice what position he was playing until someone pointed out in the second half that he was at TE then. So I will recant and defer until someone can verify if any of those pass plays from Yates were to him while he was playing FB.

You think he's saving the deep ball too?
Since the Bengals game it seems like every Yates throw was a check down. Almost as if Kubiak decided to over sell the short game to make our playoff opponent think he lost confidence in Yates’s ability to stretch the field.
I really hope that’s it. I want to see some quick slants and deep throws!

I'm jazzed about being in the playoffs for the first time
But I won’t be disappointed too badly with a loss. I’ve read a few people say Kubes should be fired if we lose our first playoff game, but that’s just insane. Considering all the injuries we’ve had, I think our record is a testament to our coaching and scouting abilities. I mean, how well do you think most teams would be with starting their 3rd string QB for half the season, their best offense player out for 3/4ths of the season, their star running back out for a few games, and their best defensive (though Joseph might be giving Mario a run for that title) player out most of the season? I’m just happy to be in the playoffs at all.

I have mixed feelings today.
The good emotions are: the bigger picture is more important and there is logic to protecting our players for the playoffs and not risking them in a game that won’t change anything relative to playoff seed.
The frustration sets in when I consider how much my season tickets cost, and how I just attended a pre-season value exhibition at full cost. Between that and getting jammed under “requirement” to purchase two home games for the playoffs really torques me in how the NFL manipulates season ticket holders.
It is apparent to me that the TV fans have it much better than season ticket holders who receive season invoices in March to pay for something they won’t attend for six months, and invoices in December for two playoff games even if only one is played. The word “required” is underscored in these invoices reminding the ticket holders of the contractual obligation that is “not optional”. TV fans can buy tickets to specific games or just watch the whole season on TV (NFL ticket, local broadcast, stream, etc).
I’ll be a TV fan next year and pick one or two games to attend without all the long term contracts and legal threats.
NFL referee corruption is disgusting! I'm done as a season ticket holder until it gets cleaned up!
I'm looking for PSLs, so this is good for me.

Make no mistake. We left that game knowing that it was ours for the taking, and the Titans left knowing that we beat them as well. The final score really doesn’t matter because we spanked them and they know it. Just check their own blog for verification.

Texans road to the Superbowl is quite workable....
To get there:
Texans have to beat the Bengals at Reliant
then go beat the Ravens in Baltimore
If Pats beat Broncos/Steelers, then Texans play AFC Championship in NE
If Boncos/Steelers beat Pats, then Texans host the AFC Championship game against Broncos/Steelers
Quite honestly, I like our chances against any of these teams if the Texans play at their best.
NFL referee corruption is disgusting! I'm done as a season ticket holder until it gets cleaned up!
unfortunately I can see this being the most probable outcome
Steelers beat Broncos, Pats beat Steelers, Texans play in NE
Our best chance is if Steelers find a way to beat the Pats so we can beat the Steelers in Reliant again this season

I consider the Texans as having earned this opportunity and pray they can bring their beasting Defense into Reliant to badger Dalton into a couple of mistakes and open the offense with an intention of passing to run. When I really think about it, my thoughts aren’t geared so much towards not having Mario and Schaub, but the fact we have Kareem “The Other Team’s Dream” and Jason Allen as our number two corners. It seems like every big drive to win by the opposite team has been against them. At least the ones that stand out to me. Even that Bengals win, KJ just barely got enough of his arm to prevent that catch. We should start a petition that demands any receiver that KJ covers MUST be double covered by a safety.

No Mario Williams, Arian foster, Owen Daniels, Jonathan Joseph, Matt Schaub, limited reps from Andre Johnson and multiple others and we lost to the Titans (who were in a must win situation) by one point (choosing not to go into overtime). I dont know about ya'll
but I am so excited to finally hear about the Texans on all of the TV stations this late in the season. It can only mean we are finally in the playoffs, not some awful collapse or playing spoiler, WE ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS! I mean, how much more exciting is the thought of watching the Texans in January. This is what we have been waiting for since Bob brought us here, now lets make this a special run through the playoffs and hope to still be talking about us on TV in February!
Let’s GO
Fuck all of those people who are selling their tickets, if anything they should be looking for tickets to a SOLD OUT PLAYOFF GAME IN HOUSTON.
Dont look at the negatives of the 3 game losing streak, we have a clean slate in the playoffs and we are hungry
Must. Feed. Kraken.
'Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.' -Frank Herbert
Some folks I know are selling them because they can't afford them
but were “required” to purchase them under legal threat in the invoices that were sent to season ticket holders. The prices were set by the NFL and near double the normal season games. I have two seats and was forced to pay $1100 for two playoff games with less than ten days notice. There was no option to pass and let them sell the tickets. There was no option to just buy one game. At a time of year when people have to fork out money for property taxes, and manage holiday and vacation budgets, it’s quite the kick in the teeth.
If anyone paid for their tickets and are now selling them, it is most likely due to financial strain and being muscled by the NFL at high prices, and they are trying to recover the cost and/or clear their credit card that just got nailed. Luckily there are folks out there who want to go and can afford it. The reason only 2000 tickets were being sold to the public last weekend is due to the requirement for season ticket holders to pay for theirs, and most of Reliant is locked up with season ticket holders and/or PSL owners.
NFL referee corruption is disgusting! I'm done as a season ticket holder until it gets cleaned up!
Just to recap
I’m of the opinion that the tickets you see people selling are for financial reasons or schedule conflicts, not because they think the Texans are on a losing streak. I think most fans would love to attend if they can afford it.
NFL referee corruption is disgusting! I'm done as a season ticket holder until it gets cleaned up!

Clearly Don Banks has never heard of a little team called the 09 New Orleans Saints
The Texans’ injury situation has been ridiculous this year, but ever since Houston clinched its first playoff berth with that Week 14 win at Cincinnati, it has looked very much like a team content just to have made the postseason, rather than anxious to make some real noise in January. Three losses to end the regular season, with two of them coming at home, and the other at struggling Indianapolis, tells me the Texans won’t be a real factor in the AFC field.

This Sunday will be fun. You guys think this game will be easy? Think again.
You might win, but I promise you it will not be easy. You also might lose. Yes, we did have a Defensive breakdown in the last 2 minutes alst time. But, we held you and your vaunted running game pretty well in check for 58 minutes. You won and I give you credit for that. I think the Bengals feel like you owe them one and will be coming to collext.
Congratulations on your first playoff game but let me tell you the playoff are much tougher than the regular season. Like I said – this will be fun.

Yes anything can happen but our running game will open up with Andre Johnson back.

Interesting fact
The last time the Bengals won a playoff game, it was against Houston. Except those boys wore Columbia blue. It was 1991.

I didn't come here to talk smack or be disrespectful.
I have zero problem with you touting your team – especially on your board. But, I felt the need to point out that though you very well may win,you are 3 pt. favorites, we are worthy adversaries and deserve a modicum of respect.
JMFC, yes you are correct but we have had3 playoff appearances in the last 10 years. This is your first. It must be very exciting for you. I never tell another fan base that we will win. I only ever say that we will be there and we will play you very hard.

Bring it on.
We respect your team. But we will beat them.
I had a dream. In that dream I saw a multitude of screaming people on Richmond. I saw Kubiak laughing. I saw Andre Johnson pouring champagne from a trophy on to Brian Cushings head. What does it mean?
We will see this Saturday won't we? Win or lose I will say the same thing. Good game.
It is easy to say you will win. I really didn’t expect you to say nay different.

The bengals have always been one of my favorite Yankee teams. Can’t remember when, but I do recall you guys beating the snot out of an unsuspecting steelers team years ago that was one of the best games I ever watched.

Most respectful but we have a problem here.
Your arrival has exceeded our blog limit of participants tagged “JJ” so we’ll have to go with JuJo, K? yeah, I’m not picking a winner other than to say I’m certainly expecting a Texans win against a most worthy opponent. Dalton has been a fabulous surprise for the NFL and we wish ya’ll the best….next year. ;- )

Not easy at all.
Don’t think we are a pushover.
Madame de Staël once said, "One must choose in life between boredom and suffering." De Staël is dead but there is always an alternative.
This is where the cool is.
But, we held you and your vaunted running game pretty well in check for 58 minutes.
I introduce you to Andre Johnson.
Already met him. He scares the crap out of me.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
He makes our run game better also.
Anyway, here’s how I see the game.
We lost the turnover battle 4-2 (one on the doorstep to a TD) and missed a FG. Marvin Lewis called it his biggest game as a coach. We were on the road.
These things make me think we executed horribly in a what should have been the Bengals absolute best effort… all without Andre, our game changer/TJ’s security blanket.
Now you have to come here to Gary Kubiak’s biggest game as head coach (who has tape from last week’s game where Rice diced you up in a similar scheme). Our crowd will be loud. Our D will be hitting every bit as hard as the Ravens and Steelers.
Without a massive turnover deficit, I really think we win big (14-21 pts.). That’s taking nothing away from you, I just think we’ll be that good.
WOW! Maybe I should just call up the guys and tell them we may as well not show up.
Andre will get his yards. You don’t stop him. You only try to limit how much he hurts you. It will take time for Andre to get down field and Carlos Dunlap will be back healthy. He said today that this is his first day of practice without pain. Until now he has been limited. TJ won’t have much time to throw before Peko, Dunlap, Fanenne, Johnson or Adkins are in his face. His left shoulder is questionable now and while we do hit clean we will not be gentle with him. 50/50 he doesn’t see the half. We are also a very strong run D. You did lose the turnover battle and that doesn’t go away because you want it to. Your crowd will be loud but per the NFL the Seattle team has the loudest stadium in the NFL and we handled them nicely. I don’t remember your D hitting nearly as hard as either Baltimore or Pittsburgh. Ask anyone who knows – the AFCN is by far the hardest hitting and toughest division in the NFL. We are a very tough and battle tested team. AJ Green is finally healthy again and Simpson is also coming into his own. Gresham is as good as just about any TE in the league. Rice has two big runs – he didn’t dice us up all day. Andre Smith our RT wasn’t playing and Malaluga was still playing hurt. We are pretty healthy for a change.
Okay, Willie, I get you. I am happy that you seem so happy and optimistic. You have every reason to be. I am all about people being happy. Plus, hell, you may be right but as you can see any one of the Bengals or Texans fans an run out a plethora of reasons why they should win. You did it. I did it too.
I will say this the Texans had better not be feeling the same way you do. In the last game we were short key players just like you and we handled your team for almost all of the game. We had a let down and let you back in it. I take nothing away from you. It happened and you deserved the win. All I am saying is that it is very highly unlikely that if you do win that you will win by more than a TD. You are 3 point favorites and as a general rule the home team advantage is where you get those 3 points. The odds makers see us a evenly matched. I do too. I have never said we will win. Look at any of my posts. I only say we will show up and give you everything we have until the game is over. I think it is very possible that you win – but a 14-21 margin is probably a pretty big reach. How about we just let the teams go out and play and see what happens. Win or lose, considering all that has happened both teams have had a pretty good season. Hell this is just a rebuilding year for us. We have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds in the draft. Next year we will be much better. These playoff games are just iceing on the cake of a very good year.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
Please post a fanpost so we have a good place for this stuff all week. It's all good-natured by the way.
TJ won’t have much time to throw before Peko, Dunlap, Fanenne, Johnson or Adkins are in his face.
This is where you can win. Create turnovers and you have a chance. Like I said review the earlier game. 3-1, minus the Foster double fumble play, turnovers that’s why it was close the first game.
We are also a very strong run D.
Tate averaged 8.4 against you in the first game. Rice had great games against you, no matter what you want to call it, and our offenses are similar.
We are pretty healthy for a change.
Are you adding a top 10 offensive player that didn’t play the first game? We are.
Ask anyone who knows – the AFCN is by far the hardest hitting and toughest division in the NFL.
I agree, you do know we went 3-1 against the AFC North this year, right?
I will say this the Texans had better not be feeling the same way you do.
I absolutely agree.
We had a let down and let you back in it.
This is where we differ. You say let down, I say the 2 turnovers (one overthrow in our side of the field, one fumble on your 3 yard line) and a missed field goal were the reason you won the first half. We dominated every aspect of the second half.
That’s why we’re here. =]How about we just let the teams go out and play and see what happens.
Win or lose, considering all that has happened both teams have had a pretty good season.
Again, I couldn’t agree more. I’m not trying to insult your team, I just think we come out in the playoffs like the team that was absolutely destroying teams earlier in the year.
Hell this is just a rebuilding year for us. We have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds in the draft. Next year we will be much better. These playoff games are just iceing on the cake of a very good year.
This is the end game of 9 years of rebuilding for us. That’s one reason why I see a blowout. We are hungry. Nine years hungry.
Putting my name on it.
If the TOs are even 24-10 Texans.
If we win the TO battle 35-9 Texans.
If you win the TO battle another tight one.
The only things we really disagree on are relatively subjective on both sides.
Hey, I like the Tecans. I think they have built a very good team and have worked thru some real adversity to get where they are. The Bengals are also a good solid team. Both want this win badly. I don’t see the Texan’s advantage that you do, but maybe that is wishful thinking. You seem to have real confidence that your team will rally around Yates and explode. Frankly I give you the edge as long as all of the local distractions and hoopla surrounding the first playoff game in years at home doesn’t get them all so hyped up that they lose concentration. This is a very big spotlight and it can bring about strange results even among professionals.
I think both teams have a chance to win. Much of the national expertise agrees it seems. I hate smack talk. I think it is juvenile amd rather silly. I am happy for you that you finally have something to really excite you. But, we are excited too and if you are depending on your team to blow us out you just may be in for a surprise. But these teams are both within the margin of error. The if either team plays less than their best they will lose. We are a very young team. The youngest, I believe in the NFL. I have no idea if they will rise to the occasion or not. I am hopeful for a win but I have enough respect for your team not to predict it. I think we can compete strongly and still be civil. As for me I cannot drum up any hate for the Texans. I want to beat you Saturday, but there is no animosity here on my part. I just think it is a good thing that two teams that have had limited success get a chance to compete with each other for another day in the sun.
BTW, Johnson is a beast but AJ Green is close. From what I see neither are 100%. This is going to come down to the running game. We have Smith, one of our best run blockers back healthy and we should do okay but I do give you the edge here and that may tip the scales in your favor I admit. But I don’t think either team will run away with it. Then again I am wrong a lot.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
Texans on NBC eh?
Feels weird right now. Texans in NBC high definition is enticing though. Hopefully it’s a good showing.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
I wrote this to kickstart the shit talking between Bungles/Texans on ESPN
Texans are going to surprise a lot of people. No more cookie cutter vanilla plays from Conserviak. The past few weeks we’ve been playing not to get anyone else hurt. Our defense played like it was a preseason game today, no exotic packages. Now it’s all out. The playbook comes out on offense and defense. AJ is back and you d*** well better believe he wants to put on a show, Arian is ready, Tate can EXPLODE through the hole, OD is ready, Dreesen and Walters can slip behind you at any time and James Casey – well he looked faaaaaaantastic today. Plus, our Defense. NUFF SAID
We ARE the better team. I envision an offensive plan like we had against the Saints, and that is actually when we were healthy last as welll. Can’t wait.

Why the Bungles crap?
I admit I don’t see how it’s hospitable or neighborly to go replying directly to a Bengals fan with “bungles”. HOWEVER, if you consider that BattleRedBlog is a Texans fan site then any tongue in cheek mis-spelling of the Bengals as Bungles should be ok here on our home turf.
I’ve seen posts here on BRB turn into pissing contests between Bengals fans and Texans fans because Bengals fans seem to take offense at the name Bungles. (and the pissing contests shocked and dismayed me because the comments came from otherwise sane posters)
I’ve got no problem with y’all taking offense to the name but =) please understand. Battle Red Blog is home to Texans fans. So a Bengals fan coming and demanding respect for their team name is like some guest coming to my house and telling me how to conduct myself in my own home. It’s a little odd from my perspective. I’d totally agree with you that I shouldn’t go to YOUR house and call your team the Bungles but here in our own back yard? =) grant us the dignity of being able to speak freely amongst Texans fans in our own home.

I still think the Bengals fans are cool but that one issue has been the source of my dismay here on Battle Red Blog.

I am not overly sensitive to smack. I can give it as well as take it. My only concern is that when two factions get together to talk football in an emotionally charged enviornment it is very easy to find the dialogue degrade into a bunch of crap talk. Anyone from any unit could banter all they wanted. As long as they smiled when they said it.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
Heh, most of my smiling was after the bar brawl with the marines
during the dressing down from the captain.
We fought against you 101st guys till a marine walked in. Then we fought with you against the marines , till a squid walked in. Then we all fought together when a Frog walked in. And so on…. comraderie is fickle.
If everybody was somebody, then nobody would be anybody - Gilbert and Sullivan
I found out as a squad leader that there is no better way to
build trust, pride and unit integrity that to stand back to back in a bar a take on all comers. It is comforting to know that the guy who you depend on to have your back will fight. It is better to find it out there than in the field. Our Captain would generally just tell us that he didn’t want to hear about anyone getting hurt because everyone had to go when it was time.
I found the Marines to be a bit tougher than regular Army guys but they soon learned to leave Army guys with a Ranger patch on their shoulder alone and go pick on somebody else.We generally got along with Jarheads. They were some tough SOBs. Squids and Frogs soon learned to just find another bar.
"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"
This is true
I was at Bragg, and we were pretty close (as in Buddies) with the jarheads out of Norfolk (We did amphib assault training with those guys 2-3 times a year). They used to hook us up after the perfunctory brawl on the weekend.

Random Observation on DeMeco
I only moved to Houston — and started watching the NFL seriously — at the start of last season. Therefore, my only basis for judging DeMeco is those two years; I don’t know how good he was before that. It seems to me there is little or no drop off (maybe an improvement) when someone else subs for him. A bunch of the big plays have resulted from his missing a tackle. He seems sluggish and a little weak (he could crush me, but I’m talking relative to other linebackers). In fact, I’d go so far as to say that he strikes me as the second biggest liability on our D (25 being first). Is he riding the wave from past successful seasons, or is my assessment just off?
He ruptured his Achilles tendon, apparently a hard injury from which to return.
My kids are in gymnastics. Last summer, one of their instructors tore her Achilles, and the doctor wants her to wait 1 year from the date of the injury to start doing gymnastics again. Ryans is at about 14.5 months post-injury. Furthermore, recovery seems to be somewhat less than 100%. He is learning a 3-4 defense on top of recovering from a bad injury. (Barwin is too, and moving to a different position, but his injury was probably easier to recover from.)
Unfortunately, we may be reaching the point where it is reasonable to be concerned that he won’t return to his former self, which was very good.

Your observations are correct.
At least, in a run-heavy game. Dobbins has historically been a good run defender, and he put that on display yesterday. Mister Alexander looked very solid as well.
I wouldn’t be opposed at all to seeing Dobbins in for more snaps against Cinci. We could use a thumper like that to take down Benson.
He isn't playing as well now, but
The rest of the players like him and he is very cohesive for the unit. He is also experienced (he calls the on field adjustments, though Cushing is falling into this roll quite well too). I’d reserve judgement for another season to see if he continues to recover from his injury.

Has he been sandbagging the last three weeks? Does he have a few tricks up his sleeve? Has Wade been secretly installing a new defensive plan that will baffle the other teams?
