"I went by the cemetery to talk to my dad," Kubiak said. "When I got there, I told him, ‘Dad, I can’t believe we’re finally here. We’ve got a playoff game today.’ I know he was listening. My dad loved this city. He grew up here and worked here, and when I came home to coach, he was very proud of me. Saturday was a proud day for him, too."

Yeah, I got tears
My dad passed on 01/01/02. Ten years to the day before we got our first play off win.
My father would have been proud, too.
Dammit, now you got me bawling, Tim.

My Dad's birthday was January 3rd
I went to his grave and had a word with him, he was a big fan of the Texans, and the Oilers, until…well, you know. I wish he was still here to see this team, with Bum Phillips son Wade getting us into the playoffs. I got very emotional, I know how hard it is to go there, but it must be done. let’s make our dads proud of this team Mr. Kubiak, take them all the way!!!

My grandfather died 12/22/06
He was a Cowboy fan, back in the days of Tex, Tom, and Captain Comeback. Back when the Cowboys actually earned the respect they think they’re entitled to today.
I know it’s never a “good” time to go, but that was one draining Christmas. RIP Grandpa
Kubiak believes in you
Hope this will quell the insults from fans
That and winning should help…I never minded reading legit coaching capability concerns on this blog but I was always a bit turned off by some of the insults that were posted (none lately). I have met 2 people over the last few years associated with the organization and there opinion of him is that he is a really humble and respectful person and i can see he comes across like that during his interviews and pressers…my 2 cents

I always liked Kubiak.
I liked what Shanahan had to say in that article. Obviously Kubiak is very respected in the league. I wish the fans would give him a little more credit and be a little easier on him when things aren’t going well.
All it took was shoring up the D and look where we are at…

Good Luck against Baltimore...
…as a Steeler fan, I’ll be rooting for the Texans.
I attended the Steelers/Texans game this year, and though it didn’t turn out the way I wanted, I was made to feel welcomed by your fans, which I appreciated.
Aside from the natural hatred any Steeler fan feels against Baltimore, the other reason I’m rooting for you guys is that your ownership has class. Many other team owners would have bailed on Kubiak years ago, with his apparent inability to get past the Colts. Your owner stuck by his HC, gave him the latitude to get the players needed, and gave him the confidence of job stability to get the job done. That is no better illustrated than by the way the Texans’ have overcome losing your QB(s), WRs, RBs, and Defensive players for most, if not all of the season, yet still playing tough and winning.
The other reason I admire the Texans, is that your owner reminds me of the Steelers ownership family, the Rooneys. From what I’ve read and heard, the McNair family has never forgotten its roots in North Carolina, and maintains ties with the schools and communities back there; yet they do it quietly and with class – unlike the Jones and Snyders of the NFL.
Again, just wanted to wish you guys luck this weekend.

Rec'd. Thanks for the comments and glad you were treated well at Reliant.
It’s no mystery McNair reminds you of the Rooneys. He has said he wants to model the Texans on the league’s ultra-stable, conservative franchises. I don’t remember for sure, but I think he has specifically mentioned the Steelers as a model.

Seeing those pictures
makes me wonder where the critique “Kubiak doesn’t show enough emotion during the game” came from.

I do feel bad for wanting Kubiak gone
Bill Cowher, lol, what was I thinking? I recently started contemplating what would happen if the Texans did get rid of Kubes. It just seems like a bad idea all around. What do you do with Foster without someone to run the ZBS? It would be stupid to run a power system with the best Zone Blocking runner in the game. then all of our linemen and receivers are practically perfect for the ZBS, I can’t see them overpowering people.
I think we’re stuck with Gary for a while, for better or worse.
This was the problem I had after the Raiders and Ravens losses.
I was still doubting Gary the HC (not OC). But I absolutely did not want to go through the rebuilding process necessary.

Losing Kubiak means nothing short of a total rebuild.

Im watching the Texans Ravens game on replay
I had forgotten how many crappy penalties were called in that game.

I had forgotten about that no call on 4th and 1 from the Baltimore 20, where Terrence Cody dragged Foster down by his facemask. We ended up getting the ball right back on a sack/fumble, but I remember being really pissed seeing that live.

Sounds like the next to last play in Indy.
Foster makes the catch and nearly has his head ripped off on a no-call.

GARY KUBIAK, HOUSTONIAN
Tim,
Your post illustrates why I never came off the Kubiak bandwagon. He, like a lot of us, is a native Houstonian. He bleeds to bring a winner here. There is no one more committed to doing so. For Cowher, etal, it would be a job, for Gary, it is his life. I am so happy that the team has turned it around.
p.s. I am glad we fell into Wade as our DC, otherwise, we may never have made the next step.
meaningful football games in '08...MAKE THAT 09, okay 10, definitely 10..i am an excellent driver...2011 = defense > awful.

The reason I never came off the bandwagon is because he's truly one of those geniuses that can ALWAYS field a top offense.
How many teams are trying to find QBs? We never have to worry about that with Kubes. You don’t fire those kinds of guys. You take away power in areas they suck (like hiring a DC), but you don’t fire them.
