Texans projected to lose by nearly all analysts?

Well, what do you know. Your Houston Texans is through to the Divisional game on Sunday. I admit that I have never foreseen any such thing at all this season. Sure, maybe getting into the playoff. But winning the AFC South, losing two quarterbacks and still held on, or the Texans actually getting past the first playoff game? I never thought we'd have it that way. But what past is past. Texans at Ravens is set for Sunday.

As many of you may have known, the Texans is projected to lose this game. ESPN, FoxSports, Sports Illustrated, whatever. Now, I know the Ravens is 8-0 at home and have Ray Rice running the ground. Flacco and the Ravens defense is solid as ever, well maybe not Flacco that much. However, we have a good tandem of RBs in our team as well. Andre Johnson is back, though I think putting so heavy an expectation on Andre is overstated right now.

I like our defense this year. The Ravens and Texans defenses should be a tense thing to watch. Someone will have to give, hopefully not our side.

Then we have TJ Yates. I know he is a rookie 3rd round draftee, but you never know. People thought he was going undrafted, but he's here. When Schaub and Leinart went down, the NFL community thought our season was over. TJ Yates, who the heck is he? Everybody, even devout Texans fans, thought he'll do badly. Who ever heard of a 3rd round pick being heroic before?

Well, people...he got us this far. He got us past the Bengals. He is going to lead us this Sunday. I have faith he will do well. All those predictors saying we'd lose...well, anything can happen in a football season. Winning without Andre? It happened. Still holding on to the division title without Schaub and Leinart? We still did it. Winning the first playoff game by 21 points? That also happened. Analysts said the Texans are screwed after those events happened. Well, we're still rolling.

Like I said, anything can happen. A rookie 3rd round QB can get us past the Ravens. He can, by all accounts, get us a Super Bowl ring. Is it extremely likely? Not really, but have faith. If this year have not told you much, start knowing that even a bad situation can be spun into a great one.

Good luck Texans, I hopes to see you playing for the AFC Championship !

You think anyone in the media is actually going to pick a team led by a rookie QB in Baltimore?

Come on guys lets be realistic. This would will be the second biggest upset of the week if the Pats were to also lose.

You really shouldn’t expect anybody to pick the Texans outside of Houston (they shouldn’t either) when the Texans already lost there earlier in the season anyways.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

=) I love your perspective on this. Welcome to Battle Red Blog!

What I think this REALLY means is that the analysts and experts were never real fans who watched all the Texans games this season.

Anyone who ACTUALLY WATCHED all the games like a real fan would see how close we are to the Ravens and really how good we can be in this upcoming game.

Who were they watching instead? probably the Patriots or the Jests Jets or the Steelers or the Cowboys

=) that’s fine. All those analysts will be surprised after we beat the Ravens ;-).

I know about the writer

But, I, for one, am putting high expectations on Andre Johnson for this game. Everyone is talking about Arian Foster vs. Ray Rice, rookie QB T.J. Yates vs perennial underachiever Joe Flacco, and the “don’t stop coming” D vs. the Ray Lewis D, but I am loading up Andre Johnson with huge expectations. He seems to be flying under the radar right now with all the hoopla with everything else. I expect Andre to rise like we have never seen him rise. This is his moment! This is what Andre Johnson has been waiting for for his entire Texans career. He will carry this team if he has to. He won’t play defense, but when he is on the field, expect great things from him! This is Andre Johnson’s party! He’s going to make it his party!

You say every texans fan thought he would do bad,

Not this guy, In the preseason I saw a Rookie with a lot of poise. No he isnt p8un carrying a team since day one, but this kid has something special and I liked what I saw. I also thought Gary would do something to get this kid to succeed. But like you said Keep the analyst thinking we cant win and dont deserve to be here.

TJ surprised me.

He looked ok in preseason, but nothing really prepared me for the way he played when he came in for Leinart at J’ville.

That performance blew my mind. I’ll never forget how striking the difference was between his demeanor and Gabbert’s that day. He looked like he belonged there from the moment he stepped on the field; Gabbert looked like a kid in a man’s world.

Kubiak is the "QB Whisperer"

He can really develop some champions. He’s worked on Steve Young and John Elway in the past.

Trooth.

Gotta have some good material to work with, though. I think TJ is the real deal.

Flying under the radar, as usual

I just went to NFL.com. The front page has one article referencing Houston (Arian vs. Lewis, with a picture of Lewis only) and one video (tale of the tape, with a picture of Rice). It is as though we do not exist. How will they ignore us when we’re in the Super Bowl?

SB Nation has this:
Houston at Baltimore (-7.5) … This weekend we’re picking Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Bress, annnnd… You’re goddamn right we’re taking T.J. Yates in Baltimore. The Texans may not win, but even with an overmatched rookie against an ass-kicking defense like Baltimore they’ll make it closer than you’d think. For three reasons:

Andre Johnson. Right now the Texans are the only team left in the playoffs that can legitimately claim a dominant running game AND a dominant, game-breaking receiver. Johnson was hurt most of the season, but now that he’s healthy, he forces the Ravens to respect Houston’s vertical passing game, keeping them from stacking the line. He’s also good enough to turn average T.J. Yates throws into big plays. In other words, he makes life easier for T.J. Yates AND Arian Foster. This is important.
The Texans defense. The focus coming in will be on Baltimore’s defense, but it’s Houston that ranked 2nd in total defense this year (Baltimore was third), and even in the era of pass-happy offenses and millions of points each week, playing ball-control offense and kickass defense is still a good way to succeed in the NFL playoffs. Plus…
Joe Flacco. If we’re guessing which quarterback could accidentally win the game for someone else this weekend, Flacco’s the clear leader in the clubhouse. Even above Alex Smith and T.J. Yates, which is really saying something.
So, both quarterbacks are equally unreliable, both defenses are equally awesome, both running backs have the potential to take over with a lead, and the best playmaker for either team plays for Houston.

The Pick: Texans 23, Ravens 17
