Open Thread: Divisional Round Saturday
Your Houston Texans take the field for their divisional round playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens in approximately 21 hours. Until then, you'll have to distract yourself by watching Saints-49ers, watching Broncos-Patriots, or huffing paint. If you're an overachiever, you may elect to do all three.
No matter your choice, this is your open thread for today's playoff action. Enjoy.

I don't see how the 49ers would be an easier team to beat.
Everyone from here on out is going to be good. Saints would be a better match for the Texans because their defense doesn’t suffocate you like the 49ers can.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
You have to outscore the Saints....
Damn you vile woman, you've impeded my work since the day I escaped your vile womb ...
Hmm in order to win games you have to out score the opponent.
Easier to keep pace with the Saints with Yates than the 49ers.
Remember. Texans really dominated early in that Saints game and blew their chance in the redzone then the defense fell apart in the 4th much like the Ravens game. Easier to run on them as well.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

Read this slowly.
The first 3 quarters of their game in NO the Saints scored 17 points against the Texans. The team then collapsed and the Saints scored 23 points in the 4th quarter.
They could hold that offense in check. Texans should have hit 45+ points on offense in that game (no Foster either).
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
IIRC
Brees was off in that game. I would rather have a red-hot Alex Smith than an off Drew Brees. I don’t want any part of the Saints. I think Brees would be a little more dialed in in a Super Bowl than he was in week 4.
Damn you vile woman, you've impeded my work since the day I escaped your vile womb ...
He was off because the defense is good. Just like all the other QB's the Texans have played this year.
I think the Texans defense would be a little more dialed in the SB than they were in week 4.

Agree to disagree
Damn you vile woman, you've impeded my work since the day I escaped your vile womb ...
The 49ers have a very good defense.
They are making a lot of plays and forcing more turnovers than one could reasonably expect against the Saints.
And they are barely winning.
More to the point, Kareem Jackson on any Saints WR, not to mention Jimmy Graham generally, should terrify you. There’s no chance the Texans could trade TDs with the Saints in a dome.

The best we could do is slow Brees down better than anyone else
But that still wouldn’t be enough to outscore the Saints. Our only hope to beat them would be big defensive plays like the 49ers are making today, plus slow him down enough. I think we can beat the Saints, but I’d rather play the 49ers or GB.

GB is just as good on offense and takes the ball away far better than the Saints.
I think watching that game week 4 the Texans were a much better team and they did more to lose it than the Saints did to win it. That’s a blowout win if the redzone offense had been effective.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

IF you could force 4 turnovers
and move the ball better than SF has (keeping in mind the added pressure of a Super Bowl, rookie QB, etc.), then I agree that the Texans could beat them. But I keep coming back to two questions:
1. Who is defending Graham?
2. If the answer to #1 is a safety, what do you do about Kareem in solo coverage on the outside (other than pray/curse)?

Yes up by 3 with a below average offense.
All I’m saying is that I think the Texans match up far better with the Saints and are a better team overall.
Also. If the Texans win Sunday they most likely are in NE so if they could pull off a win over the Pats offense why not the Saints?
Getting tired of the constant Kareem crying. Seriously he’s not as horrible as he’s portrayed here and he’s a much better player this year. Is he great? No. Hell he’s only average but he’s not losing games by himself like people are constantly making it out to be. Almost as irritating as the Crying about Schaub choking or Jacoby being 100% useless.
I like talking Texans here but all to often you guys just run this same shit into the ground every week. Kareem or Cody or Jacoby play good nothing is said or it’s just a bunch of sarcastic remarks. 1 bad play? A mountain of BS and everything else becomes null and void since it’s inconvenient to acknowledge any good play those guys make. It’s like people want them to suck so they sit around and bitch about it all day. Again not saying they are great or anything above average but they aren’t the “black hole of suck” or whatever that’s always gets posted.
So in closing all I was posting was that I felt the Texans (based on two games against the Saints) could beat that team because they matched up well against them.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
I'll be honest
I stopped reading at “Seriously he’s not as horrible as he’s portrayed here and he’s a much better player this year.” Because, yes, he is. The only reason he looks better this year is because (a) the Texans’ pass rush is much better, so he doesn’t have to cover as long and (b) because Wade rolls safety help to him almost all the time. He’s the worst player on the starting defense.

The Texans had to improve the pass rush and safeties to give Kareem a chance to blossom, but all improvement by Kareem is totally attributed to Kareem. He was in no way helped by those things!

by Bobbythegreat on Jan 14, 2012 5:10 PM CST up reply actions
Yes their rush defense is without debate better than the Texans and ever other teams this year.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
And yeah they take the ball away far better than the Texans do.
But pass rush wise the Texans are better and pass defense as far as yards they have the edge.
In certain places the 49ers defense is much better than the texans but remember we have several new players and a lot of youth in key places.
49ers have far more experience in their secondary for sure.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

Nothing like more Tebow shoved in my face!
If is wasn’t for the fact I don’t want to see the Texans in NE I’d be pulling for the Pats hardcore even if i hate that team with a passion.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
My sister lives in Austin and is a Broncos season ticket holder.
We’ve agreed to go to the game if it’s Texans v. Broncos at Reliant.
NFL will take care of that for us.
I guess since they are on seperate channels they may start the second game.

In 2007, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) effectively lifted the longstanding absinthe ban, and has since approved many brands for sale in the U.S. market. This was made possible partly through the TTB’s clarification of the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) thujone content regulations, which specify that finished food and beverages that contain Artemisia species must be thujone free.98 In this context, the TTB considers a product to be thujone-free if the thujone content is less than 10ppm (equal to 10 mg/kg).99100 This is verified through the use of Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.101
The importation, distribution, and sale of absinthe is permitted with respect to the following restrictions:
The product must be thujone-free as per TTB guidelines,
The word “absinthe” can neither be the brand name nor stand alone on the label, and
The packaging cannot “project images of hallucinogenic, psychotropic or mind-altering effects.”
Absinthe imported in violation of these regulations is subject to seizure at the discretion of U.S. Customs.102103
Beginning in 2001, a product called Absente was sold legally in the United States under the marketing tagline “Absinthe Refined”, but as the product was made with southernwood (Artemisia abrotanum) and not grande wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) (prior to 2009), the TTB classified it as a liqueur.
GABA antagonist? Wow.
Based on studies that looked only at molecular shape, for many years thujone was thought to act similarly to THC on the cannabinoid receptors.4 Today this is known to be false because studies have shown that thujone does not activate these receptors.5 Thujone is a GABAA receptor antagonist.6 By inhibiting GABA receptor activation, neurons may fire more easily which can cause muscle spasms and convulsions.7 Thujone is also a 5-HT3 antagonist.83
pretty sure the wormwood is the player there.

so, contraband?
'Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.' -Frank Herbert
Dunno.
Looks like there’s a version approved for importation and the real stuff. Depends on which one she has.
Although the description of thujone doesn’t sound too fun.

Darren Sproles has set single-game postseason record for catches. You’re right AJ Smith, he wasn’t worth 4yrs/14m #Saints

Yeah I'd rather see the Saints instead of this 49ers team.
The clutch factor might be higher than Tebow’s with them.
