The Night Before Your Houston Texans Play For An AFC Championship Game Bid: How Are You Feeling, BRB?

"Should we go to Baltimore?"
"Yeah, let's go to Baltimore."

As I type this, absent Tim Tebow leading the Broncos to the most miraculous comeback in NFL history, the New England Patriots will be playing for the right to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. In a little more than fourteen hours, your Houston Texans will be battlefighting the Ravens of Baltimore for the right to contest the Patriots for said Super Bowl berth.

How are you feeling about tomorrow's contest? What will you be doing to while away the hours? Share in the Comments below.

The first open game thread will post at 8 a.m. CST. Until then, post your ramblings here.

I feel...

like whoever wins tomorrow in Baltimore represents the AFC in the Super Bowl. Beating the brains out of the Denver Tebows does not particularly impress me, and the Ravens and Texans are both vastly superior teams. NE is extremely one-dimensional and still won’t have beaten a good team this season.

God is not on our side because he hates idiots also.

  1. Hopefully the Ravens are looking as far ahead as their fans are.
  2. Hopefully the Patriots are using up all of their Awesome tonight.

Lets not forget the Pats dropped 40+ on the Broncos in Denver to so nothing new here.

Denver has looked horrible on defense when match up against the higher powered offenses like Green Bay, Detroit, and New England.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

by Ethan Matz on Jan 15, 2012 4:33 AM CST up reply actions

The Pressure........

is not as bad as last week. We know the Texans match up well with Baltimore and I think the Texans can pull it out. The Ravens are probably looking ahead a little which could let the Texans slip thru the door to the championship.

I really hope we pull out some amazing win tomorrow.

Objectively though, its probably a bridge too far. Baltimore is the better team right now due to our litany of injuries.

Can a rookie qb go into Baltimore and win in the playoffs? Man that would be awesome, but damn it’s asking alot. Suggs and company will be in his grill all day.

Whatever the result I am VERY proud of what this team has accomplished this season.

So, I guess oddly serene is how I would describe my feelings at the moment….which I am sure will change at noon tomorrow.

Go Texans!

A little pissed that we have no shot at another game at Reliant this season.

Of all the games for Tebow to go mortal on us. The silver lining is that maybe his 15 minutes are finally up…

Many times this season I thought they had a puncher’s chance to win, and they ground out a victory. Vs. Baltimore they have better than a puncher’s chance… they’ve earned the right to be there and they know it. I think the fans want this game as bad as the players do.

I remind my son before every game to focus on 2 things: Do Your Best, and Have Fun. Tomorrow, I will be content regardless of outcome so long as they leave everything they have out on the field. That will be enough tp carry me through the off-season.

Well, for starters, I'm pissed again.

…for the second time in the last week and a day, I start work at kickoff.

So yeah, no watching the game for me tomorrow. On the upside, it seemed to work out pretty well for the Texans last week, so they’ve got that going for them.

Honestly, I don’t know how to feel about this game. On one hand, I’m going to be pissed if they go out and lay an egg. On the other hand, I think we have a chance, even with all the injuries that have happened this year. I honestly don’t think it’s a GREAT chance, but I give the Texans at least a 33% chance of winning this game. TJ is going to have to be nails, AJ is going to have to be AJ, and Arian is going to have to run for at LEAST 85 yards, minimum.

Even if they lose close, I don’t think I’m going to be pissed. Irritated, but also excited for next year.

If/when they win, on the other hand, I’m going to go freaking apeshit. Like, leave work to go take shots crazy. Hahaha

Well according to one of the CBS

announcers Denver has the best o-line in the NFL. So evidently the Pats are a defensive juggernaut and they have just been faking being bad during the regular season in order to catch their opponents off guard in the playoffs.

God is not on our side because he hates idiots also.

by Meta Sandoval on Jan 14, 2012 11:19 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Look at how the Denver offense played.

All Wildcat; all the time. Even after falling behind.

I won’t say there was a lack of urgency… but there seemed to be a lack of contingencies.

by Cut Block on Jan 15, 2012 2:08 AM CST up reply actions

Well it should be noted NE only gives up 21 PPG despite all the yards given up which is middle of the pack.

They are also tied with SanFran (regular season) in INT’s at 23 along with 11 fumble recoveries. Sure if you look at yards given up they are horrible but that’s not the only metric defenses are measured in.

Look at what they did to neutralize Tebow. A week after Pitt’s top ranked defense got shredded by him. I hate the Pats but that defense is decent which is all Brady needs most weeks. Al 3 of their losses this year are really the fault of the offenses.

It’s an overall average unit at best with strengths in takeaways and scoring defense and is weakest at yards given up and a poor 3rd down percentage.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

My drinking team has a football problem.

by DTango on Jan 15, 2012 12:20 AM CST reply actions

I think that depends on..

Which Kubiak shows up. In my personal opinion, we have to be aggressive. No DBs playing 15 yard cushions. The O-line has to have a really big day. And we have to play disciplined football. Can’t have mental errors. We need to blitz the hell out of Flacco, but at the same time, maintain composure in the cover game.

My drinking team has a football problem.

by DTango on Jan 15, 2012 12:30 AM CST up reply actions

Kubiak has nearly always been the X factor

Getting the team there mentally, planning, execution, game and clock management, and play calling are the biggest things he has to be solid on each game.

My biggest fear is he often deviates from his plans when the team falls behind a score or two. Next thing ya know, it’s lots of 3 and outs, and the team falls into a hole it can’t climb out of, when if he would stick to the plan, work the clock, and keep opposing offenses off the field, things would work themselves out.

by SuperSerial on Jan 15, 2012 12:39 AM CST up reply actions

This season has been all about the D

Make no mistake about it, I loved Shaub’s play prior to injury. But the D has been what’s brought us to where we are. I also concur that clock management has to be paramount. TJ has been doing a pretty good job thus far. O-line just has to keep Ngata, and Lewis off of him.

Defense has to be angry. Were I myself a Texans trainer, I would be about 3/4 tempted to dump an entire bottle of Visine in Kareem’s orange juice tomorrow just to keep him off the field.

I would love to see a Foster, Tate tandem in the backfield. If nothing else, I’m willing to bet there would be at least one if not two time outs taken by the Ravens DC.

My drinking team has a football problem.

by DTango on Jan 15, 2012 1:05 AM CST up reply actions

I disagree with the D.

The offense is still the bigger part of this team. The defense just stopped sucking which allowed the offense to completely take over games unlike previous Texans teams that relied on shootouts and crossed fingers to win.

The team regressed a bit after Schaub went down thanks to the offense grinding down to a measly 17 points per game forcing the defense to pickup up the slack which they did for a few games before losing 2 straight real games. We have the #1 one or at least #2 seed with a healthy Schaub under center and the Texans offense rolling.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

I really want to believe that Houston will win tomorrow.

However, I know that if I’m optimistic, my heart stands to be broken. I know it’s silly to get that caught up in a game, but that’s precisely my point. expectations

I’m going into the game preparing for the worst, hoping for the best. We are playing with house paper. If I expect a win I may get severely angry if we lose. Gonna try to kick back, enjoy the game and be proud of what we gave accomplished this season. Next season we are due for some good karma regarding injuries and I see Mario coming back. Next season the Nfl better be ready for us to REALLY GET DOWN MUTHA FUCKAS!!!!!!

hell yea!!

and im hoping lestar jean can really come through and help out our recieing core next season in case we dont get any good WR’s in this years draft, i seriously say we need to go DB in the first round of our draft, mainly to get karrem “no neck” jackson out this place.

Stuck at work at this hour

I haven’t been able to post much this season with the move to a new city, the new job and personal issues/difficulties . I always end up heading to the same place to watch the game after my shift is over at work. And you know what? For those glorious 4 quarters the texans are on the field, i can forget about all the bad things that happened that week.

Here’s hoping for another W today.

A remakable calm...

and tranquility has come over me. I’m at work right now, but after watching that debacle in NE tonight, I’m more convinced than ever that the AFC representative will come from the Houston/Baltimore game. I do not know who will win this, the odds are certainly stacked against us..but the two things that I’ll be watching for are: do the Texans overcome the hype and intensity of their first playoff road game and play like they are capable of…or do they succumb to the pressure and allow the Ravens to run roughshod over them. I truly believe that the Texans can do this! Either way, we’ve already won…the only thing we’re waiting for is the final score! GO TEXANS!!!

as a colts fan it pains me a little

but of all the teams remaining in the AFC playoffs, yours is the most tolerable. i hope the Texans do us all a favor and takes out the Patriots and Ravens.

I am glad to be working all night

no time to get too anxious. I clock out at 12:00 noon and will watch the first half in the break room so I don’t miss one minute of the game. GO TEXANS!

BTW, I was watching ESPN Match Up at 1:30 .m. on my lunch break and those f***ers were practically giddy talking about how bad ass the Ravens are, showing how they “dominated” us in week 6. I will not watch/read any more media coverage…

Stuck in neutral for now.

Part of me wants and expects the win, another part knows that this game could get ugly for the Texans and it all depends on Yates.

Because I’m not really sure what to expect from him I can’t get a good read on how the Texans will fair. He’l most likely have to do more than he did last week and I wouldn’t be surprised (in fact I anticipate) the Texans will come out throwing the ball early and often. They know the Ravens won’t let Foster dominate without a strong passing element like the Bengals did. Yates is going to be forced to show he can torch them.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

I have accepted chances are better than not we lose. I’m hoping to God I’m wrong but reality is lurking around the corner only because schaub went down this year. I know for a fact if we stay healthy next year, with wade coming back we will be animals next year.

Our hope today will have to be on the defense not falling apart again.

I think we can get 14-20 points on offense but if the Ravens get 3 TD"s or more I don’t see a win.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

O must not wear them down with 3-and-outs.

NFL matchup this morning is very Ravens-oriented.

Texans definitely getting little love. I don’t think I’m just being a homer about this.

Re-airs at 07:30 on BSPN2.

My plan is to get home and into bed by about 8:00 and wake up at noon to watch the the game like I do every Sunday that I’m on night shift during football season.

Feeling good.

I like our chances to win this game, but there’s no shame in losing to the Ravens in a playoff game in Baltimore. I’m just going to enjoy the game.

Isn't there always an upset in the div round?

SF was not an upset IMO. And I don’t think the Giants pull it off today….so that leaves us. It’s destiny, people! Bring it, Texans! Just. Win.
