2012 Senior Bowl: Open Thread

We've talked about who you'll be watching with interest when the North takes on the South in this afternoon's postbellum affair at 3 p.m. CST (airing on the NFL Network). Now let us actually watch the game and enjoy one another's observations on same.

This is your open thread for the 2012 Senior Bowl. You might be tempted to turn your nose up at such an endeavor...until you realize that you're about to go on an involuntary no-meaningful-football diet from February 6th until September.

Makes you want to watch some football, doesn't it? Opine as only you know how in the Comments below.

CB in the second round anyone?

Wonder if maybe on of these guys will be good enough to pick up.

I want 2 WR in the first 4 rounds. We need that most I feel.

WR – NT – MLB (Tank?) – OL – BPAx3

by BC5 on Jan 28, 2012 5:03 PM CST up reply actions

I just dont see a hige need for a NT

I kno it would just make our defence even better but I think we need another CB since Harris is getting no love

If we dont go WR with our first pick ill be pissed

Firesale! Everyone must go!

by astrosfan1989 on Jan 28, 2012 5:16 PM CST via Android app up reply actions

WR should def be our 1st or 2nd round pick

We got shredded up the middle this year which is mainly the NT fault. I think NT and WR are our biggest needs in no specific order

by Zukywich08 on Jan 28, 2012 5:19 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions

I think walter and jacoby showed y we need to go WR first.

Jacoby cant get open and has no hands and walter just doesnt get open enough

He isn’t afraid of contact and catches just about everything

by Zukywich08 on Jan 28, 2012 5:28 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions

Thats true

Only thing I want to add is speed at the slot like getting broyles in the 3rd or 4th or someone similar

by Zukywich08 on Jan 28, 2012 6:13 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions

Yea

How many guys actually got over 100 yards rushing against us. And I think the ravens game was a great look at us stopping the run without a true nose tackle

every running play isn't up the

Middle on our defense. We usually stopped RBs that tried to run it to the outside. Running it up the middle was on our only weakness

by Zukywich08 on Jan 28, 2012 6:17 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions

Agree. He got some easy sacks due to insane Browns

pass protection schemes and some cleanup sacks of other players’ pressure. He lived up to his high-motor rep, and that’s good, but he’s got a lot of growing to do as an OLB.

It depends on what we get in free agency. I say OG, NT,WR, our what we go in first 3 rounds. Only CB I really like later on is Brandon Boykin

From a draft site on Dwight Jones' week.....
Some NFL coaches told me they were disappointed in Dwight Jones. They felt his route-running was terrible. Jones takes extra steps in and out of his breaks, and that allows cornerbacks to maintain tight coverage. Jones (6-3, 226) has good size and some speed, but looks like he is going to need development at the NFL level. Coaches were really down on Jones, and he is going to need to stand out at the combine to help rehab his stock. That seems entirely possible, but right now Jones could be falling into the third round.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Jan 28, 2012 6:18 PM CST reply actions

That's a shame because it diminishes the # of WRs who would fit the Texans' system.

If he falls, that makes it less likely Toon or Sanu will be available at #26.

The offense requires route-runners and guys who can create space….pure speed doesn’t work.

by TexansDC on Jan 29, 2012 12:04 AM CST up reply actions

Yup.

But the offense lacks a really scary YAC receiver, which I feel Wright could be. I don’t see him catching 50-yard bombs from Schaub, but catching 20-yard passes and taking them 50.

Probably not gonna happen, but I can dream.

WOW!!!

Just watched the Junior Criner highlights and I was extremely impressed

by TexansForLife on Jan 29, 2012 12:31 AM CST via mobile reply actions

Criner won't be available for us in the 3rd

He MIGHT be available for us in the 2nd, but if he keeps impressing there then we might only have a shot at him in the first.

What will be critical for him is to run a good 40 to follow up his Senior Bowl work. If he can do that, he might just boost his way into the end of the 1st.

I would love to have a size guy, but what I really want is size and speed. That might be too much to ask for a WR at the end of the 1st round. I’d take size over speed though only because of how much blocking we ask of our WRs. Given that, as much as I love Wright’s game-breaking ability, I don’t think we’d pick him.

by La Voz on Jan 29, 2012 11:25 AM CST reply actions

Criner is a 4.5 guy at best

Which I plenty fast to play opposite dre.

There is a ton of value in the 3-4 WRs and some good ones in FA

I hope they focus the top 2 rounds on Defense again, unless things get crazy and they fall in love with a TE
