A short case for Mohamed Sanu

As evidenced in my earlier posts on the WRs of the 2012 draft, Mohamed Sanu of Rutgers is my favorite receiver at our draft spot or at any draft spot. He is first round talent, not borderline first round talent. He is a leader in the locker room, praised by coaches and teammates. When compared to the other WRs likened on this site, Dwight Jones of North Carolina and Nick Toon of Wisconsin he stands out. Dwight Jones was almost banned from a bowl game because of an NCAA infraction but was reinstated. Although I believe it was a simple mistake made by a young man, you cannot deny this showed a great lack of judgement. Toon has never had any red flags, character wise. Nick Toon has always struggled with foot injuries. In recent news, Nick Toon has been limited in the Senior Bowl due to injury. Also check out this link http://www.battleredblog.com/2012/1/18/2715520/jones-sanu-or-toon-an-in-depth-look, it is my post, with video evidence on the break down of those three receiver and I maintain that Sanu is the better receiver. Anyways this just my opinion, so please take no offense if I have insulted a player you like.

...and the other two less and less,

Jones in particular. He was one of the stories of the Senior Bowl—in a bad way.

Sanu has seemed like prototypical Texans material to me in everything I’ve read about him. Trouble is, his star seems to be rising. He may be gone before pick #26.

With WR being one of our top needs

Giving up the 26th pick n maybe our 3rd round pick to jump up maybe 5 slots to grab him would be worth it. That still leaves our 2nd round pick to grab a future lineman or DT like alot of ppl say we need and hopefully we can upgrade our #2 CB through FA

Firesale! Everyone must go!

Doubt our 1st & 3rd, coming as low as they do, would move us up much.

But yeah, I’d go for that.

You Don't Have To Convince Me

Sanu is my favorite, could-be-there WR option at 26 right now. Really like K. Wright too, but don’t see him as a first round possibility for the Texans.

Ecstatic that Texans fandom no longer means that April is the highlight of my season...

I love Sanu in the 2nd and am starting to come around to him in the 1st.

I still favor d-line in the first, because our front seven has to be young, talented and fresh to be able to fly around and dominate. On the other hand, Kubiak can make an offense go with little to no top level talent.

This is a top 5 offense:

QB: Schaub (2, 2nd round picks)

RB: Foster (undrafted)

WR: AJ (1st round), KW (cheap FA), JJ (3rd round)

TE: Daniels (4th round) and Dreessen (6th round)

Line: Brown (1st round), Smith (cheap FA), Myers (6th round pick compensation), Brisiel (undrafted) and Winston (3rd round)

Part of me thinks Rams/Vikings take o-line to protect their young QB's

Cleveland takes Richardson to replace Hillis, and the Buccs trade down to the Bears, who want Blackmon. This puts them in perfect position to take Sanu without reaching, and since Tampa’s new coach was Sanu’s coach at Rutgers, I have a feeling he will maneuver around to take him and a couple extra picks.

I say decent, but taking 3 WRs in this draft??? Not sure about that

All of the mocks for us have been scattered

Like, really scattered. I’ve seen people pegging us for Still, Poe, Jeffrey, D. Jones, Wright, Ta’amu, and even Brockers.

Here's what I put down to recap the Texans picks
I kinda like the Texans draft on this one
I’m just not sure that they’ll take 3 WRs in this draft. Sure, I can see Kevin Walter, Jacoby Jones, & Bryant Johnson all gone, but Lestar Jean was someone they liked this preseason & he’ll be given a chance to compete for a spot, plus he was widely said to be the hardest guy to cover during training camp. Trindon Holliday will probably be given his last shot to make the roster as a WR & return man. Jeff Maehl might also be in the mix for a WR spot. If we did take these three WRs, it would be interesting to see how the competition goes. Maehl & Owusu would probably end up on the practice squad barring any surprise performances in the preseason, & I doubt Holliday makes the roster, unless he’s moved to RB in a Darren Sproles type of role. This would be an interesting situation leaving Andre with a bunch of rookie & 2nd year WRs behind him

Yeah I've seen a couple having us take Alshon Jeffrey.

Some have us Taking Michael Floyd others have us taking a DT and I’ve seen a few that have us taking an OL.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

Don’t know much abot the other guys.

He could have had us double dip from the U & given us Tommy Streeter in the 3rd round

Mohamed Sanu is first round talent

I think that Jones and Toon have taken themselves out of the running to be 1st round picks for the time being. However saying Mohamed Sanu isn’t first round talent is ridiculous in my opinion. In about the last 5 mock drafts I’ve seen Sanu has always gone to San Francisco with the 30th overall pick. 26 might be a slight reach if a player like Devon Still, Donta High’Tower or Dontari Poe are still around. Sanu has not only talent but he is reliable. We won’t see too many drops from him. You won’t hear about his brush ups with the law. You will hear what a great teammate he is. Also I’m not saying that Sanu has the kind of potential to be AJ but he certainly can bring some stability to the WR2 spot for years. We can wait to find another AJ but WR2 has been a need for awhile.

by SpredAloha on Jan 29, 2012 10:40 PM CST reply actions

I have yet to see a mock that had any sort of accuracy beyond the first 3 or 4 picks

and I have the sneaking feeling we aren’t the only ones who like Sanu. I think he could very well be the second WR taken and be off the board by pick 26, particularly if he does well in the combine.

by BleachBum on Feb 1, 2012 11:44 AM CST up reply actions

i would be happy if he is off the board before michael floyd

then it will be a no brainer for us.

the guy has to run first

before you can say he is first round talent.

I like a bunch of guys over sanu, becuase I think you can get a guy that will have similar impact in a later round

sanu at 26 IMO is a huge mistake due to the WR depth and other talent in this draft

by AllenOU on Feb 2, 2012 10:44 AM CST reply actions

However a lot of that depth will be gone halfway through 2nd round

There will be a run on WRs in the 2nd round (I guarantee it), so if we don’t get the guy we want in the 1st round, there won’t be a similar talent waiting for us in the 2nd or even worse by the 3rd

lots of guys

toon, criner, streeter, randle etc

sanu is not a great route runner, and has sub par cutting skills. not a good fit

I think people watch the highlight videos and then decide he is good

by AllenOU on Feb 3, 2012 11:10 AM CST up reply actions

seriously, toon?

you want someone with an injury history? i can understand criner, streeter, and randle. but toon? i like toon and all, but to pick him over sanu is crazy. hes had the same foot injury how many years in a row now? we know you dont like sanu, but to choose someone with a clear injury history over someone whos a damn safe receiver and probably one of the best all around receivers in the draft (i said all around, meaning combined skill set- he may not be great at 1 thing but hes good at a lot of things- what a #2 in this system needs to be). yeah, 100% disagree.
