Greetings From Cincy Jungle - Ask A Bengals Fan (Again)
First things, first. Congratulations to you guys for finally getting into the postseason. I'm sure you guys are stoked about it, not to mention hosting a game this weekend. This has an old AFC Central ring to it, doesn't it? Battle of rushing offenses, strong defenses, etc.. The last time the Bengals actually won a playoff game was the Wild Card game in 1991 in Houston against the Oilers. Not speaking of premonition here, only how far back our cities go back with old school rivalries that have long quieted to memory.
Anyway, I'm very happy for you guys.
That being said we're still bitter as hell from T.J. Yates' pass to Kevin Walter that beat us in Week 14. We've reviewed it, complained about Brandon Johnson's coverage in the underneath zone, etc. It came to the point that we were worried (and by worried, we mean cursing like mad) that if we don't beat the Ravens in Week 17, we'll be out, largely because of the loss to Houston and all of the tie-breakers it killed us with. Luckily, scenarios played out to get us in even with a loss.
We'll be here all week. I'll have some of my readers drop by to chit-chat with you guys, as I will too. If you have any questions about the Bengals, topics for discussion on our last game or whatever stuff you guys want to chat about (I'm still pissed off they canceled Firefly), we'll be around.

Let's hope for a good game.
As Bengals fans we can relate to the Texans’ struggle making the playoffs, and only teams like us can understand how special it really is to reach the playoffs; especially when you take the division like the Texans did. Good luck, and we promise to keep it civil in here, but on Saturday all bets are off!

Thanks, Josh, And The Rest Of The Cincy Junglers
I’ll get a similar FanPost up at CJ later tonight, and this will get bumped to the front page as soon as we finish our podcast (probably around 10:30-11 p.m. CST).
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
Quick correction
The playoff game was last won in 1991, was in Cincinnati, not Houston. Still against the Oilers though.

I wasn’t a fan, and am the exact opposite of that franchise right now.

I think
a lot of people are pissed about the Firefly cancellation.
"He walked 18."
"New league record!"
"Struck out 18."
"Another new league record! In addition he hit the sportswriter, the public address announcer, the bull mascot twice...also new league records! But, Joe, this guy's got some serious shit."
ok
happens that i have a ritual i do every year starting around christmas. i allow myself to watch my firefly dvds anytime i want until i make it through the whole series. which usually lasts until around the 2nd of January. which means the cancellation wound for me flares up just around this week every year.
and damn if josh didn’t bring it up and now you too. yeah, i’m actually really annoyed this week about the cancellation. come next week i’ll have it back in its place. for now though, got the brown coat blues going. damn j00 fox.

I was late to the bandwagon
I tried to watch the show about 4 times, and could never make it through the pilot until about a month ago.
That show kicked a large amount of ass.
Just your average, run of the mill hardcore casual Texans fan.

how stoked are y'all that your team is way healthier than they were when we visited?
and
do you have an answer for
Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin?
Brian Cushing and Demeco Ryans?
Antonio Smith?
I’m happy that y’all are coming here healthier than when we last met but =D we are too so this should be a TITANIC struggle for the next playoff berth.
Best of luck to you as fans but . . . saving all the best luck for our Texans team =D
oh ! and how do y’all normally do on the road?
Do you think you have enough experienced players to be disciplined on the road in the playoffs?
Are y’all glad the game will be indoors where it’s not going to be raining, snowing, or sleeting?
Is your coach holding this together with shoestrings and barbed wire? Or is the team tight knit and a well oiled machine?
your QB looks like a nice guy but I haven’t followed your team AT ALL. I had no idea Dalton even existed much less that he was remotely competent (I’m a Colt McCoy fangirl so I yearn for the day they can re-unite McCoy to Shipley if that’s even possible) . I really thought your football team was dead at the start of the season. So it’s really awesome that you not only showed that your team has a pulse but my impressions of your team’s death were very premature ;-).
Didn’t you hire one of our spare running backs from the practice squad? or was that the Browns? (might have been the browns — mc coy to Chris Ogbonnaya sounds more familiar)

lots of questions!
As for the defenders answers question the outside is held down by Andrew Whitworth, who is a top 5 LT atleast, and Andre Smith, who’s finally playing like a top pick. The interior has one mediocre guard, pretty good center, and one bad guard. Don’t know if that really answers the question.
Pretty good on the road, won in a hostile Seattle stadium, and played well in Baltimore. Not sure the road or crowd phases this team much.p
I would rather play in the rain or snow because being a team from Ohio and Texas, that would seem to favor Ohio. Not a big deal either way imo.
This is a young team, but they play like vets, and carry themselves like vets. I think that alone is holding the team together tightly, but not sure if they have the playoff experience. A lot of the oline has been there, same as dline, so I think they’re experience will help the young guys.
And finally nobody can ever take Shipley! Fan favorite around cincyjungle, great guy, great reciever, been injured most the year and was badly missed.
If Cleveland is dumb enough to part ways with mccoy
ill take him as daltons backup anyday.

people act like the browns could benefit from getting Luck and all I can think is .. McCoy is a damn fine QB . the REST of the Browns need to rise to his level or at least halfway ;-).
I think that until the Browns get enough of a team built around Colt he’s doomed. BUT I don’t watch the Browns every weekend. . . so what do I know?

The ONLY negative thing I have seen about McCoy

How could you not have ever heard of Andy Dalton?
Being from the Houston area. He was a god at Katy high school and then had major success at TCU. I wish the Texans could have drafted him to groom behind teh Schaub!
I'm the best there is at what I do.
LOL =) I only have eyes for my Texans and for the Texas Longhorns
I don’t really follow local football.
I think it’s totally awesome that Texas HIGH SCHOOL football gets so much coverage. But I was actually dreading the thought of not having a real football season before they ended the lockout. I was resigned to the thought that I was suddenly going to have to give a damn about college games to slate my thirst for football in the absence of what I consider to be REAL football — the NFL. And to me the only real team I give a damn about is my Houston , Texans.
As a UT@Austin Fangirl I cheer for my Alma Mater when they play but . . . =) I don’t really even visit their SBNation blog very much. I get all my football needs taken care of here at Battle Red Blog. So I was VERY thankful that we got real football back and I was VERY Worried about how our players would fare with an abbreviated offseason.

Why did Marvin Lewis call the first game against us "the biggest game of his 20-year coaching career"?
Is he prone to hyperbole? I’m confused.
winning that game would be the easy way to the playoffs
Had we won vs Houston we wouldn’t have had to win vs Baltimore, or hope people lost for us to be in. That’s my take atleast.
Playoffs? We talking 'bout playoffs?

It looks like y’all have the offense set for a few years, and a good DC, so I hope we send you into the offseason with a positive outlook on your future.

How do you think Andy Dalton will develop as a Quarterback?
Do you think he’ll develop into an elite qb (ie Brady, Rodgers, Brees)?
a “good” qb (Schaub, Eli Manning, Tony Romo)?
or an “average” qb (Sanchez, Flacco etc.)?
Official hype-man of the Flour Bluff Academic Decathlon team
right now i would say
A good qb, with the chance to be elite. He has good accuracy, decent mobility, good enough ARM strength, and makes good decisions for the most part. But him playing in a west coast offense, and having the Aj Green helping cover up some bad throws help mask his weaknesses.
Give dalton an offseason
and he will be even better
by Bengalsfan024 on Jan 4, 2012 8:34 AM CST up reply actions
I never understood
why Dalton wasn’t held in higher regard in NFL draft circles. We saw a lot of him at Katy and TCU, dude’s got skills. Why scouts never seem to understand that pocket presence (Dalton, Yates to lesser extent) will always trump arm strength and accuracy (Gabbert) is beyond me.
Lord knows our Wisconsin guys (Watt, Daniels, Graham) know who he is after last year’s Rose Bowl.
Kubiak believes in you
Probably because he went to TCU & they knock his competition more than anything

coaches will put dalton in a system that improves his completion percentage the longer he plays in the nfl. won’t bomb you much, enough to keep you honest. will become more of a dink and dunk field awareness qb.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
I think he’ll find his way between Average and Good. He falls in the average category this year and one of the biggest draft question was — How high is Dalton’s ceiling? — So if he gets weapons around him, he’ll enjoy “Good” for most of his career with a few “Elite” stretches and some “Average” stretches of games.

have more points when the last second ticks off the game clock. yeah, sounds like a better game plan to me.
kidding aside, bengals need to avoid falling into their 2nd quarter twilight zone and being tired in the 4th quarter. for whatever reason the 2nd quarter has hurt the bengals more than any other quarter this season. as injuries have piled up on the defense, the bengals have also started to wear down more in the 4th quarter.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
Welcome to the playoff's Texans
As bengal fans we know what texans fans have been thru. years of losing and frustration and now we are both headed in the right direction.
My question for the Texans fans. is… Even though the game is on your Turf, This is a home game for Dalton. How are you gonna stop Dalton in his home? from what i read every time hes played in that stadium he has WON.
This is a historical game for both of us. Your first chance at a playoff win (but you come in losing 3 straight) and our first chance at a playoff win sense 1991? well its been a long long time. Both these franchises need this.
Now that the stakes are high. and the QB’s young. who do you see as the MVP of the game for the Texans and the Bengals?
And is Andre 100%?
Re: Stopping Dalton
I have complete faith in our defense and our god-like DC Wade Phillips to be able to contain Dalton on Saturday. Not stop completely, but contain. Add onto that the crowd noise (it is going to be insane inside Reliant) and I think Dalton could have a pretty rough day this weekend. You can try to find some video of the Falcon game earlier this year to see what I am talking about with the crowd noise. It gave Ryan trouble all game long.
"Never underestimate the dumb with JJ" - Hugh Jarce
He handled every road game fine so far including the loudest stadium in the NFL in seattle
and he will be in front of 1,000’s of his own fans from texas maybe they might be cheering for dalton and not against him. expect TCU and bengal jerseys there….
As far as god-like wade phillips? hahahahahaha you have a good D but phillips walked into a D full of good talent and what happened sense you beat us? you cant seem to win a game? our offense will put up points we did vs Baltimore and Pittsburg the texans are no different.
Only thing that hurts us is when we take our foot of the gas or think that benson will be perductive
by Bengalsfan024 on Jan 4, 2012 8:49 AM CST up reply actions
Come on now
I don’t care if there was already talent on the D, going from 32nd to 2nd (or round about) in one season is damn impressive. Not to mention, there is no doubt it was his decision to bring in Watt and Reed during the draft this year. In case you were not aware, Phillips missed the two games after your game and mostly second teamers were playing in the last one, so using those as slight against Phillips is not accurate or informed. No offense to Dalton, but Ryan is a better QB than him right now IMO, so if he had difficulty in Reliant I would expect the same for Dalton.

RE:
It’s not Dalton I’m worried about getting rattled by the noise, it’s our O-Line. This group has been notorious for making stupid false start penalties at crucial times. It’s killed drives and hurt us a bunch. Don’t be surprised if you see both tackles, Andrew Whitworth and Andre Smith, jump early as well as left guard Nate Livings.
The key for the Bengals is to make plays early and take the crowd out of it. If they are able to hog the ball and score touchdowns instead of field goals, it’s going to be a long day for Houston. If the Bengals string together a bunch of three and outs, Houston will win.

We clinched our division. Lots less to play for.
Did you watch the Titans game? It was absolutely a preseason game plan for us.
clearly...
Carolina…not so much. Indy…not so much, but definitely a limited scope offensive scheme, pretty sure Gary had gone into keep them healthy mode by this point in the season.

could be
a sign of what to expect Saturday though, nobody knows, till the whistle blows, but at the very least I’ll give ya the benefit of the doubt
yeah I hear
Kubiak is thinking about making Foster, OD, and JJo inactive again. He’s also gonna try out all those special team LBs to, you know, give them some experience for the Baltimore game.
And Delhomme looked decent, I bet he gets some reps.
You’re probably right, Sunday was a sign of what to expect.
TJ must throw 30 times for us to win.
so disregard the BE-SF game
and you just wanna focus on the two games we lost where we tried? Got it.
No Andre Johnson. Just like Cincy.
Kubiak said we’re going back to “full strength” this weekend regarding special teams. KR, PR, etc. So this implies a plan of pulling back, saving ourselves for the playoffs.
If you watch the Indy-Houston game on September 11 you’ll see the talent differential in the two squads. Its obvious to me we were in full on “protect TJ” mode for that game. Especially after the strip sack on the first drop back. Kubiak saw, rightly so, that their edge rushers might give our OTs fits if we drop back to pass, so we only called one pass play for each of TJs passes, a PA roll out pass to the TE.
This game plan was not to win the game, but to save TJ. If we win, great. We tried to win, but it wasn’t our first goal.
If we weren’t down to our 3rd string QB heading into a guaranteed playoff game, things may have been different. But I don’t put much stock in any of those three losses after we clinched. We shut it down.

Its obvious to me we were in full on "protect TJ" mode for that game.
Kubes has since stated that keeping TJ upright was the offensive priority that game.
Also, there’s been a lot of talk of the Brisiel injury really hurting the o-line.
Then on defense, Wade’s presence was definitely missed in the Colts and Panthers game.
Kubiak at post-Indy press conference
(on only converting one third down last night) "Yeah, that’s been poor the last two weeks. First off, last night, a lot of our third downs were very long yardage. We ran the ball very well, but we had some situations, some second-and-eight, second-and-nine runs that were negative plays for us and ended up some third-and-12s. In that place, with those pass rushers and that speed coming off the edge, when you get in those situations, it gets very, very dangerous. Some of that was me making some calls trying to keep us out of harm’s way and not make some things worse, but at the same time, we had four or five of them that we should have made too and we didn’t. When you’re one-for-10, you’re going to lose the time of possession. I think we’ve been the top of the League throughout the course of this year in time of possession and last two weeks, we’ve lost it both games and we lose both games, so that tells you how important it is."
oops
In that place, with those pass rushers and that speed coming off the edge, when you get in those situations, it gets very, very dangerous. Some of that was me making some calls trying to keep us out of harm’s way and not make some things worse,
good
cause cincy has two very comparable DE’s, you guys missed Carlos Dunlap last time, to got with two formiddable DT’s, we had five sacks without Dunlap, he can get two or three by his self if your RT is as bad as has been posted on CJ, Dunlap, Johnson, Peko and Atkins…remember those names
About Saturday being a preseason-like game.
- Our starters played a quarter. Foster, Jospeh and Daniels were healthy inactives. Yates played 1 drive.
- A TE was playing OLB at the end because the backup went down. The starter was healthy, but we went with a TE to avoid an injury.
- We needed an extra point for OT. Instead we went for 2 after a false start. Kubiak and the players admitted they just wanted the game to end.
our Offensive Line had to recoup from losing Brisiel after the game against y'all
what happened sense you beat us? you cant seem to win a game?
From my perspective, the Panthers game might have been a “trap” game but I don’t think we intended to lose that. I really think that the “chemistry” of the Offensive Line became much murkier with Antoine Caldwell instead of Brisiel.
Many people seem to forget that Brisiel went totally clutch for us in the game against y’all and played 2 quarters (I think) on a fractured leg. =o that is total beast mode in my opinion. I don’t know how Brisiel measures up to other Offensive Linemen but I do believe in O-line chemistry. So my own personal theory which I can’t really substantiate is: Eric Winston might have also been injured but wouldn’t admit to it. OR Winston was overcompensating for any suckitude he might have seen coming from Caldwell. The Texans are too classy to go bad-mouthing each other in public. So any thoughts of “my God, this guy is totally whiffing on his assignment” are not going to be broadcast anywhere by Texans players or staff.
The O-line crumbling was why I think we failed against the Carolina Panthers. This has a cascading reaction where with the O-line faltering, the run game goes down the toilet and so does the passing game.
Add to that Cam Newton is a freak force of nature and then add in the fact that our offense wasn’t staying on the field long enough to give our vaunted Defense anything resembling a breather. So for the Carolina game . . we just have to give those Panthers the credit for soundly kicking our asses here at home ;-).
Oh yeah and don’t forget Reggie Herring is no Wade Phillips. Wade can finesse our players into doing magical things. I don’t think other coaches understand that finesse technique of Wades but it should be learned if at all possible. Did you notice how with the EXACT same talent, Reggie Herring couldn’t get it done against Cam Newton and the Panthers?
I’m not even going to consider the Colts game a) I didn’t pay per view and b) I think it was even more of an aberration based on the horrendous officiating that I read about. And the Titans game, meh . Our backups nearly beat them.

Agreed!
The Colts game was decided entirely by the refs. I don’t buy the “Yeah but we shouldn’t have been in that situation in the first place.” Well when the entire game was that way how the hell is a team NOT supposed to be in that situation? Just about every time Watt got near Orlousy the zebras threw a flag for roughing the passer.
Also, can someone PLEASE explain to me how it is PI when BOTH players have their heads turned looking for the ball and the ball hits the ground BEHIND the defender?! The damn ball was not even catch-able…..I thought that was supposed to be part of the equation for a PI!
Just my $.02
Even duct tape can't fix stupid
Good post and good luck this week! It's great to have similar fans to compete with in a civil manner
and, like you said, our teams have been through similar experiences to get to this point.
I don’t think ‘Dre has been 100% this whole season after that first hammy as it may take the full off-season to get back into the shape he is accustom to playing. I think a study and thread focused on injuries that “may” have resulted from the lockout is long overdue, but will make good off-season material. Across the league we have seen many injuries that “could” be related to flexibility conditioning. On the Texans roster alone we had roughly a dozen hamstrings (starting back in pre-season) and two torn pectoral muscles (one that IR’d Mario Williams, and sidelined James Casey a few games).
MVPs? I’m guessing for Bengals it will be a battle between Dalton and AJ. On Texans I’m HOPING it’s a battle between Foster, Andre Johnson, and Cushing.

Yes, he’s 100% according to everyone even Cortland Finnegan (he told Barry Warner that after the Titans game).

we pretty much feel the same way
he’s a gamer and would be an upgrade at #2 for the Bengals as well, but it’s probably not worth it
I wouldn't put too much stock in Dalton's winning history in Reliant.
He’s never faced adversity from the crowd there, and his High School team is one of the bigger state powerhouses.
That's right
I was at the Texas Bowl when Dalton played there. Yes they won but it was close. The crowd was pretty much half and half if I remember correctly. And all the seats weren’t filled.
As for high school games. Well, they were essentially home games but I wouldn’t think noise would have been a factor anyway.
Make no mistake. This is going to be a different Reliant experience for Dalton. The guy earlier in the thread who called Reliant " his house" is just wrong. It will be plenty loud.

The Texans have been a fun team to watch develop
I’m glad to see you guys climb that last hurdle and win the division. I think ours is the best matchup of all the first round playoff games. AJ vs JJ 2 will be a great matchup by itself. Then there’s the question of whether our LBs and Ss will play smart and fill the gaps to prevent Foster & Tate from breaking off any long runs. Then there’s the big question of whether our running game will show up at all.
One other thing, besides this game, that we have in common is a very bright future. I am excited about what the Bengals will do next year and what the Texans will do with Schaub healthy again.
After facing manning for your entire existance
how do you feel about luck for the next 15 years

Exactly.
If he was going to a team that was built like Stanford and could run a three-TE offense as a base package, I might have more faith in him. But he doesn’t have the arm for the deep outs and he’s rarely had to face anything like the pressure he’ll face from NFL defenses because of how Stanford plays.

Hey, first things, first — we lost to Orton, not Tebow. Actually does that even sound that much better? I don’t know.
Anyway if you look at the team’s losses this year, only once did the Bengals lose by more than one score. I know its one of those trivial make-you-feel better points, but the Bengals aren’t being crushed by any means.
So I’m not so much concerned, but they have to prove they can beat those teams now.

like saying the bengals havent beat a winning team all year. when in fact, the bengals have beat teams with winning records at the time they played. like buffalo was 4-0 and coming off their upset of the pats when we played the bills.

not at all
Could have won most the games and should gave won some. Playing teams like Baltimore and Pitt 2 times a year with a below average running game and a rookie qb is not the recipe for success, but Dalton almost pulled them out. As Josh said, that’s the make you feel better answer, but I think it actually holds some truth for this team. I think they have the ability to play anyteam in the afc other than new England.
Speaking as a Texan fan I am very familiar with the should have or could have won games
But not being able to finish games is a sign of a young team. This trend could very well be a factor in the game this weekend.3

I saw Clements talking about making the playoffs finally too.
It is going to be a good matchup with two players who have been in the league for so long, and this being their first playoff game.
How does your guys' special teams play?
Do you have a guy who you feel can score on S.T. and how does your coverage usually do on kickoffs and punts?
Thanks and good luck Saturday.
I'm a household name... at my house.
Michael Vick is the best throwing running back of all time.
My put your name on it prediction for the Housotn Texans.
10-6, with a first round playoff upset over either the Ravens or Steelers.
our coverage is very good
Cedric Peerman, a 4th string RB with 3 carries, was named as the AFC Special Teams all pro guy by ProFootballFocus. Taylor Mays and Dan Skuta also are good at kickoff coverage, though Mays pretty much needs the guy to not move out of his way.
Our return guy is Brandon Tate, who was cut by the Patriots. The Bengals fans seem to be about 80/20 hate him/love him. He started off the season continually making really stupid decisions and being risky with the ball, but he’s calmed down and played smarter the last 6 weeks or so. He still scares us every time he gets the ball, but he’s been pretty reliable lately.
sorry, forgot to mention our K & P
Mike Nugent has been extremely good for us at K this year, aside from some trouble with the wind in week 17. Our punter, Huber, is a local kid everyone was stoked to get, but he’s just been kinda mediocre.
side note..
When Pacman returns punts, he’s a real threat. He doesn’t do it often anymore, since he’s our #2 CB now with Hall out. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a shot this weekend though, considering what’s on the line.
We will be using Manning similarly for KO, after his only returning 13 during the season.
Quentin Demps got a shot at 5 returns, avg’d 33.8 with a long of 50. He may see one or two, also.
'Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.' -Frank Herbert
I forgot about that.
Same for us on returns.
Manning (27 yard average who can go all the way) will be returning kickoffs again instead of McManis (20 yard average with no chance to score).
"Mays pretty much needs the guy to not move out of his way."

Our ST is solid
We have Brandon Tate returning for us and he’s been pretty good. Just like any other player he’s made mistakes but for the most part he’s damn good. We have won the starting field position battle in almost all our games. You can’t sleep on Tate cause he can take it to the house. Our coverage team is probably top 10 in the league.

Trying to find the Hartmann quote, but:
“What we saw took place on the film yesterday, especially with Brett, had nothing to do with any part of the field or anything. He just got out of control and stuck his foot in the ground. That’s happened on many fields, not just our field. So, I don’t see that.”

and how do we know it wasn’t this shitty field that caused the hammy(s) for ‘Dre? We’ve seen Daniels and Foster lose footing on it.
Since I’m piling on for this field discussion, I also blame it for the lack of catching ability for Vickers and Jacoby. Let’s hope those two get hands soon, or wear different uniforms next year eh?!!
NFL referee corruption is disgusting! I'm done as a season ticket holder until it gets cleaned up!
I didn't think that was a field issue, but the point is neither player blamed those injuries on the field.
That’s why I was mad a Anna-Megan’s article. She made a strong claim and didn’t have one quote or piece of evidence to back it up. In fact the worst thing a few players said was the field was “torn up”. Cody said it was ok. Dressen said it was good at first then got tore up. Andre and Cushing had quotes about their injuries with no mention of the field. The only quote I have ever seen about the field was from Belichick (not even Welker himself blamed the field).
Patriots players, however didn’t appear to be overly upset about the footing.
"There were a couple slick spots," safety James Sanders said after the game. "Our job is to show up and play on Sundays, no matter what the conditions are. The footing wasn’t that bad."
Added wide receiver Julian Edelman: "It was a little soggy, but it wasn’t too bad."
A survey done five years ago rated Reliant’s field the fourth best in the NFL. The same portable grass system has been in place since the stadium opened in 2002.
"If you look at it through the years, there hasn’t been any real problems that I can think of," said Texans right tackle Eric Winston, who has started every game at Reliant since early in 2006. "No chronic injuries in certain spots, no rash of certain kinds of injuries. It feels the same every week. They do a good job of putting it together. (The field) is OK by us. It’s kind of hard to believe that’s what caused (Welker’s injury). You never know with the (seams where the trays of turf met), if he caught one bad, but I think it’s one of those deals that was just a turn of bad luck."
‘Silly nonsense’ to Pitts
Guard Chester Pitts, an original Texan who may have spent more time playing on the Reliant surface than anyone, was livid about Belichick’s criticism, calling it "silly nonsense."
"I would bet every dollar I have that our field is top five in every category from looking good to being functional to being smooth and thick," Pitts said. "As offensive linemen, we can even wear our nubby, Cadillac-type cleats on it. Our grounds crew spends all that time and energy doing a great job all year around and then suddenly, because Belichick loses a guy, it’s a bad field? In comparison to that sorry Field Turf field (the Patriots) play on and that a lot of the teams use to take the easy way out and save money … ah, just be quiet."

Sorry, man. Not trying to go off on anyone, but that article about the field after the Falcons game was horrible.
Here are the quotes from that article.
"I know some guys were complaining about it," nose tackle Shaun Cody said. "Because they played a game on it, it might be a little torn up."
"I pulled up with something in my left hamstring," said Johnson, who will have an MRI on Monday. "It’s very aggravating. I never had hamstring problems, so I’m wondering where it’s coming from."
"I was a little nervous, especially with the way it (knee) got caught under me," Cushing said about going down.
"It’s a little squirrely sometimes," Cody said. "When it’s dry, it gets a little lumpy. I didn’t think it was too bad; but then again, I wasn’t running around as much as the other guys."
"I thought it was really good at first considering they played some high school games on it," Dreessen said about the game-day grass. "But it (the field) got chopped up fast.
"I was on the ground too much. I slipped a couple times. I’ll probably wear the longer spikes at Reliant for the rest of the year."
It sounds like the field was torn up, but suggesting that it is causing serious injuries is unfounded (except for Belichick two years ago). Complete sensationalism by Anna-Megan.
Oh yeah last thing about the welker injury. (sorry this fires me up)
This was week 17, the Patriots had clinched. Why was Welker even playing if Belichick was so worried about the feild?
Taking into account the two Patriots quoted above saying the field was fine makes me believe Belichick was trying to deflect blame from his decision to play Welker.
I know this is counter-productive to my argument
But if he was so worried, why did he send Brady back out instead of leaving Hoyer in the game?

I remember back in the 80’s and 90’s in Cincy when we had artificial turf, our injury reports then remind me of your guys injury reports now, none of our team would blame the turf either, but, when you play game after game on that crap…it catches up with you. I can tell it’s not exactly artificial, but after 8 games, you can’t tell me it’s not taking it’s toll
Who are you talking about?
The pallets actually absorb shock unlike turf fields. The concern is inconsistency between pallets and seams.
Andre’s was a “push-off” tear. Not related to the field.
Sharpton was a quad tear that I really can’t see being on the field.
i got to go on that field once

I know just having Andre gone had us pretty frantic trying to get decent WR talent.
and curse the Broncos for not letting us know about that talented WR they were letting go right after we picked up Derrick Mason. Right at that point, I suspected that the Denver→ Houston train had been severed. I felt like Denver said, “oh yeah ! thanks for reminding us, we’re going to let this receiver go if anyone wants him”

It's a good group
Most of those guys have been out for awhile. We lost RG Williams against you guys. I think that was the last big loss. It’s been next man up all season and people are filling in nicely, starting to gell you might say. Personally I think Shipley out of TX was our biggest loss. One of thr guys that replaced him (Hawkins) was a golf caddie this time last year, but we may have found a hidden jem with him.

I'm still pissed
about Firefly myself!
As for the old rivalry what I remember most is the Bengals deliberately running up the score on the Oilers in Cincinnati to the tune of 61-7 just because Sam Wyche Hated Jerry Glanville. I’ll never forgive or forget that.
I'm the best there is at what I do.
sam and jerry had a long running feud
i can understand your feeling that way towards wyche as a long time houston fan. if i can recall that particular moment in time, didn’t sam run up the score because he thought jerry had run up the score on him in the game before?
what started their feud beyond that, escapes me. i don’t recall a handshake snub or comments in the press at each other before that game. after the 61-7 game, they never got along in public. one would always have a biting comment towards the other in the press. etc.
