I Tend To Agree

Especially about Sanu.

Ecstatic that Texans fandom no longer means that April is the highlight of my season...

CBSsports has him ranked as the 26th best WR.

Hey he is not a bad player

would not want him in first though

2012 1st round draft pick is...............

by southpaw70 on Jan 31, 2012 8:00 AM CST up reply actions

I didn't see the senior bowl so did he light it up?

All the post senior bowl coverage I’ve read has him as one of the guys who’s really improved his stock but no one was putting him up in the 1st round. Although he might be a guy maybe the Texans look at rounds 2-4.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

by Ethan Matz on Jan 30, 2012 10:59 PM CST reply actions

I'd like him in the 3rd round

But we should still look at a WR in the 1st regardless

Who?

That’s not a Texans pick. At all.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Jan 31, 2012 12:26 AM CST reply actions

The Texans need to take two WRs in this draft.

One in the first or second, and then one in the third.

Mohammed Sanu in the 1st, because I think he’s the second best WR in this draft behind Floyd. Nick Toon in the 2nd. T.Y. Hilton, Joe Adams, or Ryan Broyles in the 3rd.

Welcome to Houston, J.J. Watt, Brooks Reed, Brandon Harris, Rashad Carmichael, Shiloh Keo, T.J. Yates, Derek Newton, and Cheta Ozougwu!

by krkenney on Jan 31, 2012 12:47 AM CST reply actions

Rick Smith loves double-dipping at a position...

Two late-round names I’ll throw out….Jordan White and Risard Matthews. They intrigue me.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Jan 31, 2012 8:47 AM CST up reply actions

That's what I think, too.

Smith’s done the double-dipping. I just want him to do it with our highest draft picks.

Welcome to Houston, J.J. Watt, Brooks Reed, Brandon Harris, Rashad Carmichael, Shiloh Keo, T.J. Yates, Derek Newton, and Cheta Ozougwu!

by krkenney on Jan 31, 2012 9:10 AM CST up reply actions

It would make sense, not like they've too many holes to fill

They could afford to do so. Honestly, they need youth in a bad way in the WR corps.

"Lord, beer me strength."

by TexansDC on Jan 31, 2012 10:17 AM CST up reply actions

Seriously

So no one thinks we take another TE or two in this draft?

But I agree that there’s just something about Sanu that intrigues me!

Marvin Jones wasn't even the best receiver on his team

much less the #2 receiver in the draft. Sanu is awesome, but Juron Criner has absurd body control in the air and repeatedly adjusted to Nick Foles’ garbage deep balls. I also think Michael Floyd has been underrated and think he could be a fantastic #2/#1 in waiting for us.

I agree about Floyd.

I think he’s the best receiver in the draft. His problem isn’t ability, though, it’s his attitude.

Floyd has been suggested before

if it comes to a choice between Floyd and Sanu I gotta go with Sanu though.

Sanu’s the guy. I hope he’s still there at #26.

How about Sanu/Floyd in the first, Jared Crick in the second and Broyles in the 4th?

Would love to see Watt, Crick and Smith line-up in a 3-4…… Screw conventional NT’s when you have high motor guys like Crick and Watt!

by Tony Ung on Jan 31, 2012 11:13 AM CST up reply actions

No to Floyd, he has 3 DUI arrests

I’d rather see Sanu in the 1st, Chapman in the 2nd, & Juron Criner or Brian Quick in the 3rd

I thought Crick was being projected low 1st / high 2nd?

I don’t think I would be too much against it, but I still would rather have Ta’amu or Poe playing NT.

Ta'amu's dominance in the Senior Bowl was really nice to see

Chapman’s also earned some points with me since he played all of last year with a torn knee ligament. Playing at a high level through major pain? Wouldn’t mind that kind of guy manning the nose.

Floyd > sanu

In every way except character issues

Not a knock on sanu, but Floyd could be AJ green his first year. Sanu isn’t that explosive IMO

How many times do I have to bring up the 3 DUI arrests???

Besides, Chicago or Cleveland (if they don’t take Blackmon earlier) won’t let him slip by them

I'm not saying that should be completely ignored

but playing in the NFL doesn’t require you to be a choirboy. It requires you to play football really, really well. Floyd does that.

All the receiver talk as it is, I still would not mind Alameda Ta’amu or Dontari Poe in the first at all. Maybe not as immediate a need, but I think there will be excellent WR candidates in 2nd and 3rd round.

The strong do what they have to do; the weak accept what they have to accept

Yea Nightowl if floyd is there when we pick sorry i will take him.

He did not have any problems this year. People get so into stuff that happen in the past. Yes he messed up more then once but he is a kid. We all know if we the big man on campus and stuff we going to drink and party too. He just needs to be surounded by the right guys.

2012 1st round draft pick is...............

by southpaw70 on Jan 31, 2012 1:45 PM CST up reply actions

He's still a kid and he still scares me.

You really want to sign a kid with multiple alcohol troubles, fill his pockets with money and turn him loose on the Houston club scene?

The Bungles probably wouldn’t think twice and he might be fine, but I say the risk is too great.

I know I, too, mentioned Broyles in the 3rd, but I think he should only be picked if T.Y. Hilton and Joe Adams are gone.

OU receivers tend to be awful in the pros, Broyles is coming off of a late ACL injury, and I think Hilton and Adams can be what Kubiak has tried to make Holliday and Jones be for us: an explosive, small, fast gadget/slot receiver and returner.

Welcome to Houston, J.J. Watt, Brooks Reed, Brandon Harris, Rashad Carmichael, Shiloh Keo, T.J. Yates, Derek Newton, and Cheta Ozougwu!

1st round -SANU, if Floyd or Jeffery are taken.
2nd round – Marvin Mcnutt

There's a mock draft on the Jets' blog that has Houston taking Mark Barron.
28. Houston Texans (Via trade with Green Bay)

Mark Barron, SS, Alabama: The Texans’ defense surprised everyone with how good they were in 2011. Their pass rush was on point, and their secondary improved. One glaring weakness was at strong safety. Glover Quinn (sic) just isn’t going to cut it going forward.

Incidentally, the SB Nation app is rather handy for finding gems like this.

Love to have Barron,

but it’s a bit early to say “…Glover Quinn…just isn’t going to cut it going forward.”

A lot of people actually thought he did a good job....

Barron would be interesting in Houston’s nickel (dime) packages. A 2-4-5 would allow Quin to move into a Weak Safety/Slot position.

by TexansDC on Feb 1, 2012 9:01 AM CST up reply actions

I don't think they really paid attention to the Texans defense if they said Quin was the glaring weakness

We all know it was Kareem Jackson
