Chris Croker dropped INT was MASSIVE.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

by Ethan Matz on Jan 7, 2012 6:48 PM CST reply actions

Deserves an Offensive game ball
Bengals safety Chris Crocker had a chance to tie the game in the third quarter, but an interception bounced off his hands. It would have likely been a touchdown because only quarterback T.J. Yates stood between Crocker and the end zone. Three plays later, Crocker failed to provide help for a faked-out Adam Jones on a 40-yard touchdown pass to Andre Johnson that put the Bengals behind 24-10. In the fourth quarter, Crocker didn’t push Arian Foster out of bounds on a fourth-quarter touchdown run

And Crocker got abused by Arian on that 5 yd catch/5 yd YAC in the third right before Dre's touchdown.

And then Foster gets up and just laughs in his face. It was awesome.

Your a class act football fan. And just so you know, I will be rooting hardcore for the Broncos tomorrow as well.. The Broncos are my 2nd favorite team after the Texans, I have lots of family in Denver and recently lived there for 1 year (the year they started 6-0.. I think its crazy from 6-0 to 8-8 missed playoffs, then a couple years later from 1-4 to 8-8 and made playoffs.. nuts!)
My dream is Texans vs Broncos in the AFC Championship, every year! (but of course that ends with Texans winning, you understand :-P )

As a Colts fan

I wanted you guys to lose. As a organization congrats on not only winning the division, making your first playoff appearance, and winning your first playoff game. I have no doubt you guys will skid by the Ravens. Hopefully, there will be a true rivalry between the Colts and Texans for years to come.

Thanks for the props

I like our rivalry with Cincy right now though. Two teams that are the future of the AFC, not over the hill has beens on the decline, ie Pitt, B-more, and Indy.

Thanks for the backdoor diss with no offense taking.

Although, I suppose our team has not been making grand improvements but possibly with Luck and a couple of years we would be back in the race unless we decide to stick with a HOF

{ ZuKeO}

by BobInBlue on Jan 7, 2012 7:39 PM CST up reply actions

lol

With Luck and your core vets returning we could have a nice little rivalry going, but there are a lot of factors to Indy’s progress. new GM, new VP, maybe new coach, Manning’s health, Luck’s growth…etc. I would like the chance to beat a healthy Manning though.

by TexasOilman84 on Jan 7, 2012 7:45 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah,

Although, I’m not into Luck = FHOF as other fans are I think with the direction we have made keeping Manning or most of our core players who are aging is unwise for long-term. We have some people to build around such as Pat Angerer ( Definitely needs to get more sacks), Pierre Garcon who is improving yet is not the dominant WR AJ is although he has more yards obviosuly due to AJ’s injury, and possibly Luck and Drake Nevis with the 2 rookie lineman we drafted last year in Castanzo and Ben.

we still haven't unleashed the wee-jay

any maybe because we don’t want to see too much, but we got a lead before half, and we used our dominant run game to shorten the game. Dennison’s run game combined with the best RB in the universe has helped this team run away with a lead.

The time’s we’ve needed TJ to score for us, ATL and at CIN he did. So he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Two almost pick sixes or not.

TJ must throw 30 times for us to win.

and a very experienced QB2 going into next year.

TJ must throw 30 times for us to win.

by texanphil on Jan 7, 2012 9:52 PM CST up reply actions

there's something to be said

for teams that wish to play simplified run-first offenses. Yates has the mobility to avoid the costly mistakes that happens far too often with Schaub: forced fumbles, sacks, and the lack of threatening teams outside the pocket. Yes, our o-line and running backs have done fantastic, but TJ’s athleticism and ability to create outside the pocket and keep teams honest on play-action bootlegs is a HUGE reason our running attack is as potent as it is now.

TJ (as a rookie) has been a revelation. He fits perfectly in the offense, he doesn’t get scared nor does he crumble during big pressure moments, and his accuracy has improved dramatically since when he first started. He’s young, he’s made his share of mistakes, but I’m sold: this is the QB of our future. If you wanna keep Schaub for one more year, I say that should be the max: TJ is the future. I’m ready to embrace it even if nobody else is.

T.J. has done well but the team is in the position it is because of #8. You put him back in the mix with a healthy Andre and we’re steam rolling right now.

I'm a man!! I'm forty!!

by Hydroshock on Jan 8, 2012 12:27 PM CST up reply actions

sure

but I’d disagree. I think Yates is keeping teams honest, he is capable of avoiding the sack and avoiding turning the ball over inside the pocket. I’m not “biased against Schaub,” I just think he’s not going to get any better, and knowing what we knew about him, I think it’s fair to want a more versatile qb (ala Yates.)

Plus, it’s not fair to reference Schaub’s success on the bootleg considering TJ played his first full game with Andre YESTERDAY. And what’d he do? He connected for a td as well. In previous weeks, TJ has shown the ability to hit Dreesen and Walter for solid 20 yard gains off of the bootleg as well. We’re running the ball more not just b/c Schaub isn’t playing, but also b/c Owen and Andre were hurt. Who is TJ going to throw deep to? Jacoby? We are a run-first team. This “balance” you speak of hinges on our run game, I’m sure you agree with that too. TJ has done his job to keep teams honest, and as a rookie he most definitely warrants serious consideration to be our future QB (I propose: after 1 year). Remember, this entire conversation began with the assumption that we could get a king’s ransom for Schaub (which we should be able to get.)

lol, I wonder how people would feel about TJ if we end up going to the superbowl.

by wiseonekms on Jan 8, 2012 12:31 PM CST up reply actions

A whole lot of Schaub's bootlegs go to the same TEs that TJ throws to.

I’d argue they’re more of a factor than AJ.

And Schaub mastered the bootleg even during the many games that Dre was out.

and what's to say

TJ can’t with an offseason’s worth of work? He’s been doing rather well within the confines of our system. I think we’re glossing over him as an actual possibility going forward. We’re forgetting the fact that he’s a rookie and he’s going to improve insanely, not to mention that teams will trade away an entire draft to get Schaub. Factor in both of those situations, and you can’t possibly tell me that trading Schaub isn’t a serious option?

by wiseonekms on Jan 8, 2012 12:41 PM CST up reply actions

Nobody's glossing over him as the future.

We are saying right now, today, we are better with Schaub. That’s not debatable to me.

Correct

I'm a man!! I'm forty!!

by Hydroshock on Jan 8, 2012 2:52 PM CST up reply actions

Two things:

I think I agree with you on TJ’s potential. I mean, that is pretty non-controversial, wouldn’t you say?

But TJ is not as good a qb as Schaub. I know you disagree on this but Schaub is an excellent qb by my lights. TJ has the potential to be as good, albeit in a different way.

Let’s assume for a moment that the front office would consider parting with Schaub (and let’s be honest here, I can’t see it happening. I mean, look how long they stuck with Frank Bush). It would have to be a sick deal to make it worth it, and I don’t think we’d ever get that kind of offer.

Just because the Cam Newtons and such are out there playing well doesn’t mean that every rookie qb is going to do that. Much like Sam Bradford, I suspect that a guy like Andy Dalton is going to regress in his second year. I think it is still a wise move to bring a qb along slowly. TJ has shown flashes, but it takes a lot of time to get familiar with an offense like ours.

I see no problem with keeping Yates around a few more years and letting him take over for Schaub then. Schaub still has a few more good years in him, and he’ll be better than Yates for much of that time. I don’t see the hurry.

OK, that’s more than two things. Sorry.

no doubt.

We would have our QB of the future as well as build a solid base for our offensive and defensive line for years to come with what we’d get out of any deal involving Schaub. To dismiss it entirely is just not rational.

DONT forget Shaub!

hes a solid proven QB and IS our STARTER! Yates, even if he takes us to the superbowl (which will be behind out D and running game) would then be labeled #2 to be groomed behind Shaub/ just in case, and “QB of the future”
Yates over Leinhart for #2? Hell Yes. #1 over Shaub? noooo way not after less then a seasons worth of games.. but QB of the future.. yeah I could dig it.

by firestorm420 on Jan 7, 2012 9:42 PM CST up reply actions

that's fair.

1 year max for Schaub. That’s what I say. TJ is clearly #2 next year if Schaub returns. But, we also have to consider Schaub’s peak value. Oakland traded for a 1st round pick to get Palmer, that MUST be our return on Schaub or else it’s useless to think of trading him. If we retain Schaub, it should only be to obtain maximum value in preparation of trading him.

by wiseonekms on Jan 7, 2012 10:17 PM CST up reply actions

we're not in the desperate straits that Oakland was in

please don’t go expecting or hoping for that kind of trade or trade value from the Texans.

From ESPN
The Texans’ defense rushed four or fewer pass rushers on 37 of Andy Dalton’s 47 dropbacks on Saturday, and Dalton struggled throwing into coverage. Houston had three interceptions and sacked Dalton a season-high three times. Houston had sent extra rushers after Dalton on 18 of 30 dropbacks in their regular season meeting, and Dalton completed 11 of 17 passes for 141 yards and his only touchdown. – Dalton was 9 of 10 against such pressure prior to his pick-six to J.J. Watt at the end of the second quarter. Including the pick, Dalton went 12 of his next 23, with three interceptions. – The Texans used five or more pass rushers on 50.0 percent of opponent dropbacks in the regular season, the second-highest rate in the NFL. The 21.3 blitz rate Saturday was the Texans’ lowest of the season.

Tricky, Wade, tricky. I really think we have two of the better play callers in the league.

by willieboyd on Jan 7, 2012 8:54 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

T.J. Yates was 0 for 6 with a sack when facing five or more pass rushers in the first half Saturday but found his form in the second half. Yates went 3 for 4 against such pressure, averaging 21.3 yards per completion, including 40-yard touchdown pass to Andre Johnson.

Again, our coaches made the needed adjustments.

by willieboyd on Jan 7, 2012 8:57 PM CST up reply actions

I was worried in the first half

The offense looked weak.

Until Mega-Watt made his pick six, the d didn’t look that great.

One other thing to note – Dalton was 24 for 42 I think. 42 attempts. They abandoned the run early – because it was doing nothing.

Kick ass Texans. More of the same next week.

yes, he did

but he did: b/c he COULD. What else do u expect him to do? A potent running game is always going to be leaned on heavily in the playoffs, and you can’t take away Yates’s big plays b/c the defense played well.

Yates most definitely has the ability to run this offense in the future. I say, we keep Schaub for a year, develop TJ and get maximum yield for Schaub.

Only QB we will keep will be Delhomme #3 - behind Schaub and Yates...

Lienart. JJones and Walter will be sent packin… I say we get Reggie Wayne if we can get him cheap…Lestar Jean will return next season as a #3.

possibly.

However, I think the Texans will invest a high draft pick on a wr. U really think Walter’s gone? That guy is a huge reason for sealing our edge blocks in our run game. JJones: peace.

by wiseonekms on Jan 7, 2012 10:23 PM CST up reply actions

Yep Walter will want to get paid.... Not the output of last year this year....

I don’t think they will draft a reciever before 5th.. first three picks will be more d line and o line I am sure…

I been thinking this too

first pick will be a deep threat WR, pref someone tall who can outreach defenders.

I highly doubt they send JJ packing.

I doubt the coaches see any reason to let him go especially after that new contract he got.

Yeah he’s only going to be an average QB but he’s become an excellent run blocker for this team (that’s huge because all skill players are expected to be at least adequate run blockers) and a solid punt returner.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

by Ethan Matz on Jan 7, 2012 11:00 PM CST up reply actions

Yes and no

Lienart is gone. JJones is uner contract – new one last year. He’s not going anywhere. KW may go somewhere else.

We are pretty deep at WR though. Lestar Jean and Jeff Mahel are in the wings. I’d like to see us pick up an OL guy though – guard or a tackle. I guess we get Studdard back next year, but seems like we need more depth up front. Also – as has been said many times before – Dump KJax and find a better corner to split time with Allen.

"And now", said Max, "let the wild rumpus start!"

by Kidaster on Jan 8, 2012 10:13 AM CST up reply actions

Studdard?

I’m not sure the Texans are keeping that guy. I’d be happy with a #2 wr in the 1st round. Also, for those of us who want us to draft “giant nose tackles” early….are we just going to pretend that Jamison, Mitchell, and Cody aren’t doing freaking amazing? Those guys find ways to make plays that most overweight dlinemen don’t.

I could see the Texans parting with KJax, but to be fair to him, he played very well yesterday. And, the Texans drafted Brandon Harris last year, so I’d like to see what he does as CB#2. I wouldn’t mind moving Brice as the #2, but I think he’s too valuable as our slot corner, so maybe Harris moves to the outside? Iono. Allen’s been respectable, we have to admit this. Either way, this draft is a great opportunity for us to get some valuable depth…heck, maybe even at the linebacker position if Sharpton’s injury is too serious.

Last night we saw TJ develop

On one play he missed the read of a rusher on the right and took a sack. A few plays later they stacked two on the left and he nailed a quick release for a big gain.

I watched him throw during pre-game warm up and he tossed a 70-80 yard bomb down the field (hard to gauge exactly, but he was standing near the 20 and it was caught inside the 5). Schaub doesn’t have that kind of arm strength. If TJ continues to progress, I think he’ll be battling for the starting job next year.

We still have Leinart on contract for another year. I think the original 3 will stay unless we trade Leinart, but I can’t see anyone trading for him when he had such limited game time to display his ability.

At this point, my money is on TJ being the future QB of this franchise. And if (a BIG if) that’s the reality of it, then there’s no reason to hold that development off and regress the passing game by putting Schaub back in as the starter. I’m no Schaub hater, but his accuracy, arm strength and legs are a downgrade from TJ. The only thing he has more of is experience and ability to read defenses.
