TE Owen Daniels Has X-Rays For Possible Broken Hand
The answer is NO, No we can not win a game without losing a starter. Sorry, that was what the deal was.
The Houston Texans notched their first win in franchise history with a 31-10 victory, but not without yet another key offensive player sustaining an injury.
Tight end Owen Daniels was scheduled to have a postgame X-ray for what the Houston Chronicle reported could be a broken right hand.
Daniels injured his hand on a second-quarter catch. He remained in the game after the play and finished with two catches for 29 yards.
The Texans play the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday in an AFC Divisional Playoff Game.
*** Updated ***
As per Pro Football Talk, Owen Daniels has had an MRI and surgery is not expected to miss any playing time.
"The belief is that Daniels will be able to face the Ravens because he didn’t suffer a compound fracture and likely won’t need surgery"

I'd rather lose a starter every game....
…then spend a day with Holmes, Sanchez, or Ryan in Steel Blue. We’ll take our chances…

This is a lot worse than last years Packers.
This is downright ridiculous.

Yes it is...
Simply for the fact of losing Schaub. As good as Flynn was last Sunday, I doubt we would’ve won the Super Bowl last year without Rodgers.

Tough loss but at least we clearly have depth at TE
Dreesen/Casey can do work

Casey looked excellent last week against the Titans
If Daniels is indeed out then it was a good thing Casey got some game reps at TE again……yet another Gary Kubiak decision that his haters will never give him credit for. You know
cuz losing to the BESF's in a meaningless game is totally unacceptable.
I'm a man!! I'm forty!!
Do y'all think teams will still underestimate Dreessen as a receiver?
Hope OD’s ok, but honestly I don’t think there would be more than about a 15-20% dropoff if he couldn’t go. Maybe not even that.

Let's make no mistake
Daniels is super clutch. Whether the others can compensate for some of the ridiculous plays he makes remains to be seen.
That said, I think Dreessen has developed into an excellent red zone target. He has very good hands and gets open in heavy traffic. Casey also has excellent hands and proved he can make plays in the open field. So I agree the drop off would probably be around 15-20% but it’s those huge plays that O.D. makes that are hard to make up for.

Moar THOR!!!!
and Dreesen and TE/LB Graham

Yep, they have great depth here and they've been without OD before
This is nothing new, if he’s out.

As much as I hate the cost
I enjoy the reward of getting to see James Casey actually play a little TE…
/Former Rice Fan
Casey is underutilized, and always has been.
Unfortunate side effect of the team’s embarassment of riches at tight end. He may have to learn to play corner.

I actually had that thought. Put him back there in obvious jump ball situations.

I knew someone would say that. lol
Physically he can do it, but what about mentally? Seriously does OD ever miss his assignment?
I think mentally he can handle anything
Dude graduated from Rice with multiple degrees.
He accumulated a 3.67 GPA while doing a triple major in economics, managerial studies and sports management with a minor in business.
This ain’t rocket surgery!

Emphasis in that post goes on "from Rice."
Getting in that school ain’t easy, much less coming out with a triple major and a 3.67 GPA.
Houston Texans: 1 Playoff Win.
Vince Young, Dunta Robinson, and Jason Babin: 0 Combined Playoff Wins.
It's tough focusing for a full 60 minutes. That's a huge difference between being a backup and first string.
Those backside blocks OD does are crucial to the stretch counter plays.
According to 'Dre, Casey has the best hands on the team,
and that’s saying a lot considering how good OD’s hands are.
He catches everything
I remember reading back during his first training camp, Kubiak yelled at him for diving and catching bad balls. Something to the effect of training camp isn’t for diving on the ground and getting hurt. Casey was a rookie at the time and just a late-round pick trying to make the team, so I can understand what he was doing.
Damn you vile woman, you've impeded my work since the day I escaped your vile womb ...
I like Casey
His work ethic, his talent, his size…hell, he went into the off season and gained 10 lbs of muscle so he could be better suited to play FB. I think OD has him beat on route running but I think Casey is/can be just as good or better than OD in every other aspect.

Wouldn't want him to under any circumstances

Exactly
But you can’t say you wouldn’t want Casey at TE under any circumstance. Thus the potential of Casey.

So, not only possibly Daniels...
but possibly losing Wade Phillips to Tampa Bay….sucks

Dont...wont...cant believe it
I think Wade was meant to be in Houston. His dad loves him here, the Texans love him here, he loves being here with the talent and payroll and fans…how could he want to go anywhere else? Is it about the “Head Coach” or the money? I think we would pay the money.

I would like to think so
but you never know these days…hopefully the bucs hire someone quickly.

The longer we stay in the play-offs
The lower the chance that he goes. Teams aren’t supposed to contact assistants until their season is over.

Don't be surprised if you see a lot of 2-TE packages
With AJ back, this package really puts the Ravens on its heels. It’s easier to disguise the play action, and Dreesen and O.D. are both versatile in that they are good at both run blocking and receiving.
Swat and swim, dip and rip, twist and spin; just do whacha gotta do to light up that QB.
