Kubiak: Cushing Has A Torn ACL, Will Undergo Season-Ending Surgery

Stay connected for news and updates

Now, it is official from the Houston Texans themselves. Houston inside linebacker Brian Cushing has torn his left ACL and will have season-ending surgery.

"It's what we thought. Obviously, he tore his ACL. We lost him for the year. He will likely have surgery in the next two or three weeks when the swelling goes down," said head coach Gary Kubiak at his Tuesday afternoon press conference.

Cushing will be placed on the injured reserve list with no designation for return this year. In his stead, Tim Dobbins, the veteran journeyman, will step into the starting lineup with Bradie James. James will likely fill Cushing's role as the inside linebacker on nickel and dime situations. Mister Alexander and Jesse Nading are also names Kubiak threw out as potential inside linebacker depth. With Cushing heading to the IR, there is also an available roster spot for Houston to fill out.

I am not a psychic, but I imagine Cushing's injury and how the Texans will handle it moving forward will play a big role in tonight's Battle Red Radio (7 pm CT).
