Matt Schaub Named AFC Offensive Player Of The Week

Award-winning, again. - Troy Taormina-US PRESSWIRE

A well deserved honor for a man coming off a 527 yard, 5 TD day is bestowed upon the Texans' QB.

The Texans were virtually assured of one of their own taking home the AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after the fireworks against the Jaguars at Reliant Stadium a few days ago. The only question was whether the honoree would be Andre Johnson or Matt Schaub.

Today, it was announced that 527 yards and 5 TDs won the award over 14 catches for 273 yards. Nick Scurfield has some perspective on Schaub's win:

Schaub threw for 527 yards and five touchdowns on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, leading the Texans back from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit for a 43-37 victory in overtime. He completed 43-of-55 passes (78.2 perecent), including the game-winning 48-yard touchdown to wide receiver Andre Johnson. Schaub tied Houston Oilers Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon for the second-most passing yards in a game in NFL history.

This is the fourth time Schaub has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week. He previously won it in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Schaub has completed 65.5 percent of his passes this season for 2,540 yards, 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He ranks eighth in the NFL and fourth in the AFC with a 96.8 passer rating. He has won 13 of his last 14 starts dating back to last season.
