You remember Stanford Routt now, don't you? - Thomas B. Shea

With Brice McCain lost for 8 weeks, the Texans will bring in a surprisingly unemployed CB for a look.

Mark Berman says:

Former Raider, Chief and UH cornerback Stanford Routt will get a tryout with the Texans tomorrow.

Routt, as you may recall, was surprisingly cut by the Chiefs about a month ago after signing a three year, $18,000,000.00 contract with Kansas City before the 2012 season. After he was jettisoned, criticisms of Routt's willingness to tackle came to light.

I haven't watched Routt play enough to offer any sort of opinion. All I know is that he was a well regarded corner before this season, yet he has managed to remain unemployed since the Chiefs released him early last month. I also know that we're now in Week 14 of the regular season, and your Houston Texans are dangerously thin in the secondary. Brice McCain is out for the foreseeable future (contrary to the initial report, it now appears McCain will have to practice for two weeks should he return after missing six weeks, which means he wouldn't be eligible to actually play until the Super Bowl):

McCain has been designated to return from injured reserve, but he’ll have to miss eight weeks. Under the new rule this season, each team can designate one player to return, but he has to miss six weeks and then practice for two weeks before being activated. That means the earliest McCain could return would be the Super Bowl.

Thus, if McCain can come back at all, it wouldn't be until the Super Bowl (assuming the Texans won the AFC and, no, I can't believe I just typed that without laughing). Until then, you're hoping Johnathan Joseph and Alan Ball can return from their injuries, that Brandon Harris and/or Roc Carmichael can step up and contribute, and that no one else suffers any missteps or setbacks.

If Routt's in shape tomorrow, signing him seems like an unabashed no-brainer, especially in Week 14. Your thoughts?
