Much better choice. At minimum, it's at least someone I've HEARD of!
And the Seahawks with Justin Blackmon?

Me.
No two-down players in the first round, please. I’d rather take Fletcher Cox and give him some snaps at NT while grooming him to be Antonio Smith’s replacement.
Derek Wolfe
He’s not a first round guy, but he may sneek into the second round. He’s kind of a heavier, less athletic JJ Watt. he’s 6’5" 290-300 lbs, and played both NT and 5-tech for Cincinnati. He was the Big East defensive player of the year. He’s very active and penetrates well up the middle. He’s kinda under the radar right now, but I’ve seen some people mention him as doing well at the Senior Bowl. He actually does get sacks and makes tackles
Tackles:70
Sacks: 9.5
TFL: 21.5
FF: 2
REC: 2
Not bad stats for DT
here’s his highlight reel. I think he would fit perfectly as NT/DE rotation guy. He’s way better than Mitchell/Jamison/Bulman

I don't know y there r ?? After many...lol
But if he has to be double teamed even on passing downs then he can be a 3 down player, in my opinion

Interesting Patrick D. Starr linked to an article showing the Texans are interested in 341 pound
Alameda Ta’Amu.
Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
Ta'Amu
I heard the interview with Ta’Amu (had to transcribe it) and Ta;Amu himself said the Texans were the first ones to talk to him during Senior Bowl week, the Bills were next in line. Not to mention he ended the interview with saying he would like to be in Houston. I will link the interview with him when they release it.

I take it with a grain of salt (and a bit of draft pessimism). Keep in mind that this is Rick Smith we're talking about here...
He’s building quite the rep for the misdirection and not talking to guys he actually wants. Of note, Kareem Jackson admitted to never talking to Houston during the process while J.J. Watt was oft-linked to Dallas and San Francisco as those teams openly talked about him.
Hopefully the interest on both sides is mutual with Ta’amu, but I’ve seen enough to have some doubts.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I think Ta'amu fits Wade's profile better than Poe
He is a little shorter, so lower center of gravity, and looks to be quicker.
But I just don’t see the Texans going NT in the first round. I think we pick up one in rounds 3-5.
If Sanu & Kendall Wright are gone, I'm OK with a NT for our #1.
How much do we really know about Poe?

I'd still take Sanu if available
WR is our biggest need. Since this draft is deep with WR’s, we should go there unless the top 5 are taken (Blackmon, Floyd, Wright, Sanu, and Jeffrey). If those top 5 are gone, then by all means take Poe or Ta’Amu. I’d go Poe over Ta’Amu, because of his strength & power.

Thanks, that was interesting stuff.
I must say he seems like a possibility, but not a lock to take over the Texans’ starting job.
Conference USA second-teamer? OK, that can happen to a good player on a bad team, but I’m still not sold on him as our #1 pick until I see a lot more—perhaps he’ll show it at the Combine.

2-10
They were on a terrible team. Memphis couldn’t stop the pass,I wouldn’t look too much into his superlatives. He is a first round talent for a reason.
If the Steelers dont draft him would imagine he will be there. Steelers need to fix both sides of the line, offensive and defensive. Their pick (#24) will dictate the direction the Texans are going. IMO

Poe is my hope for our 1st round pick.
Follow him up with Nick Toon in the 2nd and T.Y. Hilton in the 3rd and I think we’ll have a successful draft class.
That said, I don’t like Ta’Amu. He was pretty awful this year. Where was he against Terrance Ganaway?
Welcome to Houston, J.J. Watt, Brooks Reed, Brandon Harris, Rashad Carmichael, Shiloh Keo, T.J. Yates, Derek Newton, and Cheta Ozougwu!
NO CHANCE
I cant believe we will draft a giant NT in the 1st
if mario is back, and even if not, this guy would be off the field on 3rd downs. you have watt or ninja bounce inside and play mario at DE or someone else
you can get a NT in rounds 3-5 IMO to play 1st and 2nd down

He’ll lose quickness as his body matures (he might even grow another inch or two), but with that size…

With that size we convert him to TE
just kidding
NOT AT ALL
The Texans will not go nose tackle in the first round for the reasons mentioned above. Phillips wants a penetrator, not a big hog. I’m not saying Poe isn’t a good player, but right now he is a one trick pony. He stops the run. Period. We were one of the top run defenses in the league last year, and a true NT comes off the field on 3rd down. If Poe or tamu (guy from washington) is there in the second, I think we could pull the trigger though. If mario isn’t resigned, this will probably be an outside linebacker. If he is, then we look to the best wide reciever on the board, and possibly trade down if the value isn’t right. I like juron criner out of AZ in the second. I don’t think alshton jeffery is a “texans pick” because of his character/lazy route running and same for malcom floyd. Sanu is another option for them in the first.
criner might be able to be had if we move up in the third
dont think he is going to be super fast
@THEREALALLENOU on twitter - "The man, the verb, the legend" OU'd
Probably another one in the 4.5 range

I'm still hoping for a WR in the first round...
But I would totally be okay with the front office drafting Poe.
Draft season is my favorite time of year, I love reading these mocks. NFL Draft in April, and MLB Draft and NBA Draft in June. Fun, fun, fun.

BPA
should be the mentality
only WR Id consider at #26 is floyd, since blackmon will be long gone
Im not close to sold on sanu even in the 2nd when guys imo who are better can be had later in the draft
@THEREALALLENOU on twitter - "The man, the verb, the legend" OU'd
BPA should be the focus in the first round, yeah.
But I’m hoping like hell that the BPA is a wide reciever in this case.

I'm not making a decision on Poe...
because I can’t find any video of him actually playing. I’ve watched several videos of Ta’amu, though, and I don’t think he would be a good fit for the Texans. He’s not very active, and doesn’t collapse the pocket like he should. He plays a little light on his feet for a guy that’s 340 pounds. It’s tough to gauge a DT that’s a run stuffer when they play a team like Baylor (btw, he was terrible in that game). Watch him against a more conventional team, like Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl. The guy is okay, but he just doesn’t make any plays. He get’s scooped out by smaller lineman and doesn’t make any plays on runners that don’t run directly to him. He’s not gonna be a Texan…

Yeah, you are right
sack and fumble recovery aside, he just isnt quick enough for what Wade is looking for IMHO
Look at Derek Wolfe
I think I would like to see him lining up between Watt and Antonio, with Mario and Barwin coming off the edge…

Not bad kinda like this guy.
Where is he slated to go in draft?
2012 1st round draft pick is...............
very nice looking prospect
might actually do better at DE than NT. But he is extremely quick. I am sure Wade could find a spot for him :) I bet he goes in the second round. I checked a couple places and they had him in 2nd-3rd round
I've boards where he goes in the 5th, or even undrafted
Something tells me that should change after the combine

How about Fangupo for a late round project?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D73ctp36oGg
He is big (6’1, 330) and pretty quick, good lateral pursuit, seems to be aware of what is going on, and looks pretty disciplined with his rushes.
He doesnt get much explosion out of the blocks though, and he looks uncomfortable in his stance, which is surprising since usually quickness gives you that pop. I think it is because he only played football one year, and that he can be coached up.
So if you lose out on Wolfe or someone else in the early rounds, would you take a chance on this guy?
He's got an NFL body and room to add weight
said one scout," He looks almost skinny, despite the fact that he’s 300 pounds…" If he runs sub 5.0, he’s going in the first 2 rounds. He’s got too much production, potential, AND motor not to.
"...you may all got hell, and I will go to Texas!"
-Davey Crockett
He looks a lot like Mario build wise
speed wise too
Just what our front seven needs, another white boy with a high motor

Rec'd.
For actually evaluating his play instead of saying, “he weighs 350 pounds so he must be an upgrade”.
If those were the qualifications for a 3-4NT
Then there’s a ton of 30-40 year olds who can play.

Resign Mario and draft Poe in the first?
I don’t know if anyone would be able to score on us next year! I still think they go WR in round 1 though.
"Never underestimate the dumb with JJ" - Hugh Jarce
I don't get the criticism that he's a 2-down player (or any NT really)....
I think the plays and packages would determine that. If one of these guys could be a Vince Wilfork then I’m all happy.

On top of this, our nose doesn't play on 3rd down in any situation of about 5 yards or more, no matter how big.
