Looking for info on Mario Williams contract

I have read conflicting information regarding Mario Williams contract and the Texans ability to resign him. Some people are optimistic, stating that Mario's cap hit would likely be less next year than it was last year. Other people are pessimistic, stating that the Texans will have a hard time resigning him given that they are so close to the cap now. Does anyone have more detail regarding Mario's contract and whether or not the Texans will be able to resign him?

There is almost no way that a new contract wouldn’t have a lower 2012 cap hit than what he cost in 2011.

I have not yet begun to defile myself.

They can structure it however they want

So yes he COULD have a lower cap number next year and be signed long term.

It’s a moot point though, as some team will come in and give him a ton up front, and the texans won’t be able to matc
I’d say my goodbyes…

Lots of money up front =/= a big cap hit for 2012.

Typically it’s going to be a low base salary for the first year with a bunch of guaranteed money spread out. 2012 has never been an issue, though. There’s always a way to make it work in the short-term. The problem is going to be when that base salary starts getting bigger around the same time as Arian’s, and when you’ve got guys like Cushing, Duane Brown, and possibly a QB on the books for big money.

Even the little contracts add up. There’s gonna come a time when they have to start letting go of guys like Antonio Smith, Winston, and Quin. And that’s where I get worried; when you have to let quality starters walk because you’ve inked too many guys to massive contracts.
