Super Bowl XLVI Open Thread: Giants v. Patriots

New York Giants at New England Patriots, Feb 5, 2012 5:30 PM CST

Well, this is it. The end of the 2011 season. After tonight, you won't see any meaningful NFL games until September. Seven months from now. Woe unto us all.

Now that you're properly depressed, let's enjoy this last precious bit of football. It's the Super Bowl. Let's comment like it.

Here's to the Texans being here next year

And we can all share stories of how we have had no sleep the 2 weeks leading up to the game for fear of missing it. It shall be a glorious time indeed.

New Zealand does not get the Superbowl commercials. It is broadcast with local ads. We have about six, maybe seven sports ads on ESPN, so they just repeat them for every commercial break. 24 – 7

Needs to be a new rule

late in the game, if the defense has 12 men on the field, it should be a 5-yard penalty and the clock should be reset to the time the ball was snapped. May not have been done on purpose, but it was a genius calculated risk to have 12 defensive players on the field to prevent a touchdown. While they’ll get called for the 5 yard penalty, plenty of time was drained from the clock.

Ha Bernard Pollard leaving Pat fans pissed.
I don’t care if someone has to get suspended,
the next time we play a team with bernard pollard on their roster, I want his knees kicked in. That mofo has cost us three seasons now by critically injuring a major patriots offensive player.

Ha yeah.

Then again he did beat MVP Rodgers in Green Bay and has bested Tom Brady in two SB’s. It’s unfair to say he’s NOT one of the best if not the best QB playing right now.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

But he beats Brady now 3 staright times twice in the SB.

And beat Rodgers in Green Bay.

Also. Peyton 9-10 in the playoffs 1 win in 2 SB appearances.

Eli 7-3 (I believe) 2 wins in 2 SB appearances. Sure Peyton is the better regular season QB but in the do or die games Eli has proven to be the better QB.

You could argue Brees is better. As long as he’s in the dome in New Orleans. On the road he’s not so great. What signature road wins in the playoffs does he have? Homefeild advantage for his Sb run.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

by Ethan Matz on Feb 5, 2012 11:07 PM CST up reply actions

Thats debateable

Yes he has the head to head wins, but lets be honest. At least with tonight, alot of the reason the Pats lost was not due to Brady’s skill level but that of the WRs

by Silentjay on Feb 5, 2012 11:31 PM CST up reply actions

Well he got by before with less than great talent at WR/TE.

And Eli led the Giants to a win earlier this year over the Pats in NE and you can’t blame the WR’s for that loss.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

by Ethan Matz on Feb 5, 2012 11:51 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

ya I agree

I don’t think we can pin this on ‘receivers’ today. I definitely give Brady the benefit of the doubt due to Gronk’s health, but this is not a “receiver offense” neways. Pats shouldn’t fret, they’ll be a contender next year too.

I’m giddy at the thought that the Texans could possibly be the team to beat next season in the AFC.

by wiseonekms on Feb 6, 2012 1:54 AM CST up reply actions

but isn't that

a pretty powerful thing to be “better” than someone at? Eli is turning elite, I think it’s time we embrace it.

Much like we did with Roethlisberger.

by wiseonekms on Feb 6, 2012 1:55 AM CST up reply actions

so,

the only thing I got from this game is that the Texans should be the favorite to be the AFC champion next season.

that, and David Carr is full of crap.

by wiseonekms on Feb 6, 2012 1:51 AM CST reply actions

Man...

I am so envious of the Giants receiving core. Fuck Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter is really a number 3 option in this league.

Brady choked last night.

The entire second half (4th quarter in particular) he just missed so many passes. That Welker pass was atrocious. He missed Branch across the middle a couple times and after the completion streak the Giants front 4 got into his head.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

by Ethan Matz on Feb 6, 2012 9:10 AM CST reply actions

Disagree on the Welker throw. It was exactly where it needed to be with the safety coming over.

Welker should have had it.

Eli outplayed Brady, but his receivers were much better.

If he puts that pass on the numbers Welker might run in for the score. The Safety wasn't going to get there in time.

Yeah Welker should have made that catch but that pass just wasn’t good.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.
