Another week, another new mock draft. Assuming this happened (and there's a whole lot of reasons to think it won't), this pick would be pretty polarizing, methinks.

sanu is SO overrated its not funny

If you watch him, and not highlight videos on youtube, you will see he is a 2nd at best

I must agree.

As the draft gets closer, more full-game videos will get posted. Right now, there’s just this one against UConn, and it ain’t flattering. He does a decent job of making the first man miss every once in a while, but he shows no plus-attributes outside of that. He has a few bad drops (one on a goal-line slant; that’s unacceptable), never shows top-end speed, and rarely beats out DBs for position when settling down in a zone (which is one the reasons his QB throws three picks while targeting him). If that game was any indication of the rest of his season, then his gaudy catch and yardage numbers are more a product of being targeted 20 times per game.

Say what you will about Jeffery’s work ethic, but there’s genuine #1 potential there. Here’s what he did matched up against Jenkins. Great hands, exceptional leaping ability, tough for any DB to bring down one-on-one, and most importantly, he’s always using that big body to box out defenders.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

highlight videos are the devil

Jacoby has some of the best college high lights ive ever seen

and in sanus case, i think level of competition, especially the CBs he faced, were sub par

I personally wouldnt touch him tell late 2nd AT THE EARLIEST.

but if hes there I can see the Texans actually taking him. Just hope someone else gets him first.

The Texans won't. They'll trade out of the pick if the WRs they really want are gone and no knockout BPA is there.

The guy might as well have BUST tattooed on his forehead. I hope the Browns or the Bears take him.

I said the same about Aldon Smith

and I wasn’t the only one. I’m not saying lets draft him if he is there, I’m saying if he is the pick I’m not mad. great hand, great height, and good jumping ability. Biggest knock on him is speed, but I don’t have a problem with it. I want Sanu more than any other player in the draft, I believe he should be the pick and will be.

if he has a good combine bring his weight down to 225 and he is solid.

See, that’s what bothers me: a WR who needs to un-fat himself to impress at the combine? Something VERY wrong with that picture.

My guess it just depends how you carry that weight

Remember, Calvin Johnson is 6’5", 235 lbs. With Jeffery at 6’4", if he looked more muscular & less pudgy, this wouldn’t be an issue

it also depends on how it affect his game speed.

if he can carry extra pounds of muscle and still play at 100% then i have no problem with the “extra” weight. However, if he sucks with the additional weight, then yes it is a problem.

his weight never was a problem

it only became a problem when people saw a picture of him. some draft guys say his stats took a dip last season because of poor QB play. I’ll just wait until after the combine to say if he should be a good pick or not.

Keep in mind, we're not picking 11th this year.

There aren’t many sure things on the board in the mid-20s. With the state of our team right now, I’d be more inclined to take the riskier, high-upside guy than somebody who probably won’t be much better than an average #2.

Let me say this about alshon.

With Schuab throwing the ball you dont have to be a speedy guy, cause he cant throw it deep anyways. If he want to just throw it up and let Alshon out jump the corners or safties then so be it. I only say this cause I look at what they did with A.J. Green in cincy. he pretty much just outjumped the guys.

you have to be consistent for 3-4 years in college and do great at the combine to be picked. You can’t just show up for one event and blow off the rest. ALl of our picks may not work out but they pick the players who best fit the TEAM. I for one can’t complain.

There is a TON of misinformation in these comments

jeffreys ceiling is so much higher than sanu. Its not even close. IF, yes Im saying IF jeffrey has a great combine, he might be gone in the top 20.

Sanu is a 2nd rounder at best. stop watching youtube videos and listening to espn. Sanu is not a first round talent. doesnt have the speed, which doesnt matter for us as much, but he isnt explosive in his cuts AT ALL. used his size to outmuscle CBs in college, in the big east mind you… that wont cut it in the NFL.

There is no way they take sanu in the first round.

Id be fine with alshon because picking him would mean kubiak and co are comfortable that they guy will be motivated and work to get better.

I agree that Sanu is a 2nd rounder

But I think Jeffery is way too raw and not enough speed to be a top 25 player in the draft. He reminds me too much of Mike Williams from USC. Jeffery’s got a long way to go to be an every down reciever in the NFL. Steve Spurrior coached WR’s haven’t exactly blown up the NFL. They run a lot of vertical routes and seams that you don’t have all the time for in the pros. I wouldn’t take Jeffery before the 3rd round…

I think there are only 2 recievers that look like good bets to be #1 WR's

by #1’s, I mean 80 catch, 1200 yards with regularity. Justin Blackmon and Michael Floyd.

The next 8 recievers or so may develp into those kind of players (and one or two probably will), but they may take time or will probably be more like 65, 900 guys. I think with our positioning the wisest think to do would be to trade out of the first round, flipping picks with a team that wants to jump back in to the first round to get either Tannyhill or someone else they think is slidding.

btw, my prediction for the guy who slides into the late first round is Trent Richardson. He’s very similar to Mark Ingram, who lasted until 28th pick. The last 5 RB’s taken in the first round have all underperformed given what they were expected to come in and do

2011
Mark Ingram- pick 28
2010
CJ Spiller- pick 9
Ryan Mathews- pick 12
Jahvid Best- pick 30
2009
Knowshon Moreno- pick 12
Donald Brown- pick 27
Bennie Wells- pick 29

Trent Richardson will be there in the 20’s and just maybe a team like Cleveland will want to trade back up in the first round from 36 to 26 to get him. I could see it happening…

moral of the stroy…Texans will trade out of the first round and pick up the reciever they want in the early second…

I think he may struggle his first year because of the type of offense he's coming from

WR is usually one of the toughest transitions to the NFL and the patterns he ran were very limited, with very little bump and run coverage because of the nature of the spread offense. He also had a great QB that maybe inflated his numbers a bit. He’s a great talent, but I don’t see him having the same kind of rookie seasons that Julio Jones and AJ Green had. those guys were both about 60 catches for 1000 yards. Blackmon and Floyd may do that, but if I were a betting man, I’d give Wright 45 catches for 650 yards.

two games a career do not make

i feel the exact same way drill sarge does. the problem is that from 24 on down, you are basically picking the best project players. Guys who have really insane ceilings but are very raw and will make some impact. All I know is that whoever the Texans pick, should contribute right away.

The player he most reminds me of in the NFL is Jeremy Maclin

Maclin’s a pretty good number 2, but he doesn’t fit everyone’s system. They got a good thing going between him, Desean Jackson, and Vick. Good on vertical routes and those quick shallow crossing routes. That would be the kinda place were Wright would flourish. And who knows, Jackson is a free agent and a knuckle head and they may want to replace him…

I think he’s a good player, but Kubiak has seemd to always like bigger recievers (even going back as far as when he was the QB coach in SF).

The latest consensus is that the short fast guy in the NFL comes out of the backfield, not streaking down the sideline as a WR.

NFL WR’s really need the height to win the battle for the ball since separation from the faster NFL defenses (vs college) are much more challenging to accomplish (unless they are lined up across from K-Jax).

2008 first round

Darren McFadden
Johnathan Stewart
Felix Jones
Rashard Mendenhall
Chris Johnson

2nd (for fun)
Matt Forte
Ray Rice

2007 first round RB
Adrian Peterson
Marshawn Lynch

That isn’t a list of guys who have busted/underperformed. Perhaps rookie running backs don’t do awesome? That would be more likely than every first round running back has been a bust so all future ones will be as well.

For the record, I don’t think Richardson will go top 5, but I think he will go top 15.

This would be a great idea

Ok Colby Fleener and instead of him being a TE we Transition him to a WR he has those skills and he would be are Megatron .

It's an intriguing pick.

And would be booed, of course.

I wouldn't boo at all

As long as he was the second TE.

Thats a great pick

Thing I love about him is his explosiveness.

For a guy that big he can move. I think he’s got like 4.5 speed and I’ve gotten to see him play in several games and it’s a mismatch to put DB’s or LB’s on him.

I’ve seen him compared to Jason Witten which seems about right to me.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

Coby Fleener as a WR

He is 6’6 240-255lbs and can jump like crazy and has speed its better speed then Jeffrey, So u put that on the edge and u got a guy that is unstoppable with the ball in the air. This guy could be better then Calvin with the ball in the air he’s taller and more psychical. And don’t let that weight fool u this guy is in shape!! Oh and next year Od and Casey going to be our TE cause we booting Joel…

by obrien52289 on Feb 6, 2012 9:49 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Casey is going to be Fullback but I'd go with OD/Coby duo.

Like to see LB/S try to cover those two on intermediate routes.

Prediction: 11-5 AFC South champions.

Why change his position

We use two TEs a ton, and run the ball a ton. That makes no sense

by AllenOU on Feb 6, 2012 10:37 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

I am going to have to agree

Mostly because Fleener isn’t fast enough to play wide receiver, and changing someones position is generally a bad idea unless they can’t play their college position in the pros (Big slow safeties to LB, fast athletic QB’s to WR, small DEs to OLB, etc).

There would be NO point to take someone in the first round and then ask them to do something they have never done before and which you don’t know if they can do in the first place.

If we were to do that with a TE, it would be with Ladarius Green

6’6", 230 lbs. However, I doubt he’d have the ideal speed for a WR, but then again if he runs a 4.65 40 yard dash as most project he will run, he would still be faster than Jerry Rice

I think the hate directed towards Jeffery is a little unnecessary

Look at his numbers for the 2010 season – 88 receptions for 1517 yards and 9 touchdowns. That’s pretty awesome.

South Carolina fans and blogs acknowledge his drop in production is due to QB and OL problems, and that his conditioning and work ethic rumors are a myth. His body type is definitely not ideal at the moment, but imagine what being in an NFL strength and conditioning program will do for him?

He reminds of me of a Larry Fitzgerald in that he is not super fast, but has fantastic body positioning, hands, and ball awareness, using his body to create separation and secure the catch.

Not entirely true

There had been reports before that he was late to practice, took plays off, etc. nothing major, but those can be signs that when a player gets paid they start to coast

If true, then I highly doubt

the Texans are going to get him. He just wouldn’t be the type of player the FO looks for, no matter how high his ceiling may be.

Very strong YPC, too.

He might not have over the top speed, but he works that mid range that Schaub loves to throw to. And on the subject of YPC, that worries me quite a bit about Sanu. I get that he has to play within the system, but 10.5 YPC is troubling.

Some of the conditioning concerns on Jeffrey are overblown, but his freefall down draft boards is the Texans’ gain.

I've been pining for Jeffery for a while now.

In spite of questions over his makeup and conditioning, his ceiling his elite. I don’t believe the front office will draft him, but I’d be thrilled if they did. I’d be okay with Jones or Floyd as well, though.

in the end, the texans won't draft anyone on our minds

they are gonna take some unknown or someone who was always meant to go to someone else from the middle of nowhere. maybe an albino eskimo who is 6’8" used to play tight end in kindergarten and can play every position except te.

why are we even debating this ?

any one who questions jeffreys ability hasn’t watched any of his games. I watched several on espn3 via xbox and the dude is a beast. his ceiling is real high

he’s gone up against the best corners, played in the SEC in college, and it was against kirkpatrick, jenkins, and alfonzo 3 out the top 5 dbs yet not one of them was able to shut him down. These are 3 potential coners who could possibly go in the 1st round alone and possibly start! and somehow people question wether he be successful in the nfl?

I think people are questioning his work ethic, not his talent.

Which I understand, but I’m not really sure I buy it. Hell, if he’s fat as it is, then his production is even more impressive. Imagine if he started to really buy in once he got to the NFL? It’s not like this is a toxic environment like the Lions of old, either. I think you’d be hard-pressed to half-ass it with Kubiak coaching and ’dre mentoring.
