As a lifelong (the team not me) Houston Texans Season Ticket Holder, I was very dissappointed to learn this week that the Texans ("due to a scheduling conflict w/ facilities & players") have cancelled the all-access event for 2012 that has occurred for the past seven years (except for strike year). Over that time, it was a great addition to the value of being a season ticket holder AND a fan of the football team. It provided an opportunity to interact w/ players and hang out with fellow fans as anticipation for the next season built. However, with success apparently the need for valuing fan experiences has taken a back burner. To be told by Steve w/ Houston Texans customer service that "sometimes conflicts arise" seems very suspect. There wasn't one day in May or June they could find half of the team available? Moreover, much like dieting or working out, I am concerned that the team once they quit offering this event for a few years the organization will find it increasingly "difficult" to try to re-start it. As my wife so poignantly stated, "It's like the Texans let go or traded most of the faces of the team". If there was any year except for the first season to have an event to meet the players this was it since they are so many new faces.
I sincerely hope there are other Texans fans like myself who keep letting the team know that just because they are winning games, it doesn't mean they can start ignoring us! Of course, then again, when you are winning, I am sure they can wager on bangwagons fans jumping in to take our seats if we decide not to spend our money with the team.
