Best available, really??

We all know the old routine, teams claiming that they take the best player available on their draft board when their time comes. I personally think this is a load of bull manure. And since we're all just trying to waste time between now and tonight's draft (ok, and get some work done to) I thought I'd throw out something that's been on my mind for the last day or so.

What if (I hate these scenarios) Luck or RG3 suddenly have a non-NFL related incident (think getting arrested for battery, pot, etc) and it is bad enough for teams at the top to start scrambling. Suddenly you see RG3 drop to 8, 10...15 in the first round.

Draft boards are suddenly out of whack. The "best available" guy on the Texans board is in a position we have no need for in the first round (say RB or even QB). Not including a trade option, would the Texans actually take the "best available" player if they don't need him in that round?

Do you think certain positions are left off of their board for the first round or two? IMO that's what I would do. Create a board with notes on which positions I'm not taking in the first round (or two) then go from there. But I'm just a stupid SOX guy so I'd demand evidence of review/approval of all picks before they were submitted anyways. :P
