Officially a Texan.
And then there was one…unsigned 2012 Houston Texans draft pick, that is.
It was announced, by both Chron.com’s John McClain and FOX26’s Mark Berman at 3:38 p.m. CT, that the Houston Texans have agreed to terms with third round rookie draft pick DeVier Posey, wide receiver from The Ohio State University.
Details of the agreement have yet to be announced, but one can assume it will be similar to that of Buffalo Bills LB Kelvin Sheppard, picked in the same spot (68th overall) during the 2011 NFL Draft. Sheppard’s contract was a four-year deal for $3 million. Bills WR T.J. Graham, who was taken one pick after Posey this year, also received a four-year deal a few weeks ago.
Posey immediately will be thrown into the competition for the third receiver spot for Houston with LeStar Jean, Keshawn Martin, and a host of others. Getting in on time, while never really a question thanks to the new rookie contract rules, was paramount for him to be on equal footing for this camp-long battle.
Posey’s signing also means that the Texans have one more deal to finalize, that of guard Brandon Brooks. Training camp opens this Saturday, so I expect Brooks to sign before then.
Edit: Posey's deal is a four-year contract worth $2.69 million. H/t bhsman and EHTR.
