A different take on the RB situation

With Arian Foster getting his new contract this off season I think we can all agree who is expected to be our #1 RB for the foreseeable future. But multiple people have asked about Ben Tate and what his future will be since his value in relation to his current contract is so high. This is not a "trade Tate because he'll never resign with us EVAR" post. This is more about his potential replacements and what their existence could mean to Tate's tradability. After watching the game this past week, I noticed a few things. (YES, this has only been after ONE game. But we need something to discuss until the W/L actually mean something.)

1) Tate had 7 carries, almost as many as the #3-5 guys, and I believe he was out there for several more plays in pass protection and/or route running.

2) With three other guys to evaluate, it appeared odd to me to have Tate on the field for as long as he was.

3) There wasn't a noticeable difference between Tate and the other guys.

Most of us agree that Arian is not the result of a system, but is actually a very good running back. But could the same be said about Tate? Also, if the other RBs continue to play well, why not attempt to trade Tate this season rather than wait until the next off season? Something tells me more draft picks would be offered for a cheap starting RB with 2 seasons left on his contract than there would be if there were only 1 season left. With Tate getting as many reps as he did, could that be the coaching staff providing a little more game tape as trade-worthy evidence?

The only down side I see would be a risk of Foster getting hurt and the (current) #3-5 guy that gets to be his backup ends up being a bust.
