The 2013 Houston Texans football season is dead. Rest in Peace. Technically, the season isn't over, but I, like many other BRB'ers, have conceded the season. Due to the expectations, this was easily the most disappointing season in the franchise's short history. It should be stricken from the record books as the season that never was.
The only thing that has gotten me through the last few Sundays and hopefully the remaining games (/stares at Kubiak) is watching the development of Case Keenum. We need to see what we have, and whether or not we need to make a move on a QB in the draft next May. Before a week or so ago, I was completely content about rolling the dice with Keenum next season and making a HUGE move in 2015 to grab Jameis Winston, but recent developments in Winston's life have me wondering if Winston will even be available to be drafted. Obviously, he is innocent until proven guilty, but given the Texans track record for not selecting players that have previously shown violence towards women, I have to believe that if there was shred of truth to the reports, they wouldn't want Winston even if he was available to draft. So what's next?
Regardless of Keenum's progress over the remaining six games, I believe it's time to draft a QB in 2014. Disclaimer: I am huge Case Keenum fan.
It might be best to do so in the first round. Second Disclaimer: I have been a huge proponent of selecting Anthony Barr or Jake Matthews if we remain in the area of a top 5 pick. I wouldn't be upset with Jadaveon Clowney either.
Honestly, I'm in the Derek Carr camp, and he is shooting up draft boards. Third Disclaimer: This scares the hell out of me, both that I am a fan of drafting any QB related to Mittens and that he is shooting up draft boards.
For now, let's ignore the possibility (certainty?) of a regime change. When May 8th, 2014 rolls around, do we go with the sure thing? Do we roll the dice on a QB? Do we trade back and fill some holes (Giggity) in the roster? Personally, I'm torn. What say you, Texan fans?
