"Penn State coach Bill O'Brien is the leading candidate to be the Houston Texans next coach, a source close to the search tells CultureMap. The Texans began putting early back channel feelers out to various coaches to gauge their potential interest even before Gary Kubiak was officially fired on Dec. 6 and have a very good idea at this point who is legitimately in play as a candidate and who is not, the same source says. From that sorting, O'Brien's emerged as the Texans No. 1 target. O'Brien separated himself with the poise he's shown under extreme circumstances at Penn State University, his NFL experience under New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and his track record of getting the best out of quarterbacks. He will take a big edge into an interview with the Texans."

I think that the two top candidates for the Texans are O’Brien and Lovie Smith. I hope we get O’Brien because I think that would be the best thing for this organization going forward. We need a new face for this franchise and someone that can bring out the best in players, no matter how talented they are. Bringing out the best in players is something that O’Brien does best. You can see it from the type of talent that he gets at Penn State and how far he has taken them in the past couple of years. Yes they haven’t been able to go to bowl games or win division titles but you can just see how far they have come since the sanctions were handed down. O’Brien is the best guy for the job and McNair definitely needs to hire him ASAP.

The hiring of O’Brien would probably mean that the Texans are going to look at the QB position with their first pick in the draft. There are plenty of options that the Texans can go with at the QB position including; Bridgewater, Carr, Bortles, or even Manziel much to the chagrin of a lot of Texans fans, and O’Brien will have the pick of the litter to work with. No matter who they pick he will get the best out of them. If I was choosing I think that I would go with Bortles because he has the most upside out of them all. Would you love it if the Texans hire O'Brien as the next coach or would you like someone else?
