Texans Off-Season Plan 2014: After 11 Straight Losses

General Manager

I think Rick Smith stays. I don’t think we are at a point where we make an entire organizational change. The changes only will be made if we have another bad year next year.

Coaching Staff

I have had enough of Gary Kubiak and his entire coaching staff. Wade Phillips has done a pretty good job but I don’t think he will be back if we fire Kubiak. That is unless we make him the head coach, which I don’t think is going to happen at all. The guys I am interviewing are Darrel Bevel, Bill O’Brien, David Shaw, and Ray Horton. I want to lean towards an offensive coach just because of how bad our offense has looked all season. Ray Horton is a guy that I am highly interested in though. I think that I am hiring David Shaw in the end just because he comes from a highly successful coaching tree and I think that he has what it takes to be a head coach in the NFL.

Round 1: Jadaveon Clowney

This team is going to need to replace Antonio Smith. I do not think that he is going to back in Houston next year. We just can’t afford him. Clowney and Watt in the front 7 is just going to be nasty. Together they could be the best D-line tandem in the AFC and even the league. You have to put pressure on the QB if you want to be able to win games in this NFL.

Round 2: David Fales

I really like him at the QB position and think with the right offensive coordinator and QB coach that he could be something in the NFL.

Round 3: Quandre Diggs, Bradley Roby, Damian Swann

One of the big problems with this defense is that there is no CB depth on this team at all. We have to get someone to back up Kareem Jackson and Jonathan Joseph.

Round 4: OLB or OT

I am moving Brooks Reed to ILB. You either have to have confidence in Trevardo Williams and draft someone to back him up or sign a FA. You could go with Jackson Jeffcoat or Jeremiah Attaochu out of Georgia Tech, could be available here. If you don’t take an OLB you have to go OL. I would look at OT specifically since Newton couldn’t carry the water-boy’s jock strap.

Free Agency

Cuts: Newton, Bullock, Schaub, Yates, and McCain

Say goodbye to: Antonio Smith, Tate, Wade Smith, and Daryl Sharpton

Potential Cap Casualty: Owen Daniels

DE and DT: Guys I would look at include: Henry Melton, Randy Starks, Lamarr Houston, Arthur Jones, Jared Allen, Brian Orakpo, and Michael Bennett

LB: Guys to look at: Pat Angerer, Daryl Smith, Brandon Spikes, and Karlos Dansby

DB: Jairus Byrd, TJ Ward, Sam Shields, or Tarrel Brown

What do you guys think the Texans should/will do?
