Currently, there are 4 quarterbacks on the Houston Texans roster. Obviously, there is Matt Schaub, then there are 3 others battling for the backup position, and possibly a 3rd string. Those quarterbacks are T.J. Yates, Case Keenum, and Stephen McGee.
Yates has already proven himself. He miraculously brought the Texans to the playoffs in 2011 being the 3rd String Quarterback after Schaub and Matt Leinert suffered season-ending injuries. He even won a playoff game against the Bengals and was less than 10 yards away from another one against the Ravens.
Keenum on the other hand, while has no NFL playing experience, has had nothing but good praise from coach Gary Kubiak. He set several NCAA records while at the University of Houston, and almost even went to a BCS game before losing to Southern Mississippi. However, many critics say he had no experience at a pro style offense, he had no competition when he played at Houston. But the reality is, Kubiak is probably the best quarterback coach there is, he even made Matt Leinert look ok before he suffered a season ending collarbone injury. He has always had high praise for him. He led the rookie training camp this off season. Truth is, Keenum is a born leader. He has always overcome challenges. It wouldn't surprise me if he shoved Yates right out of the door.
I have no idea why Mcgee is even on the roster. What has he done in his career beside carry a clip board for Tony Romo? He had a bad year at A&M his senior year. I think he is nothing more than a roster filler and will be cut before week one.
What do you think? who should be the guy that the Texans run to if Schaub gets injured?
