A Kid's Perspective: Game Preview

Hello SBNation. I am a kid, and I want to share with you my opinion on the Houston Texans. This article is about me previewing the next Texans game, which should be a thriller against the Seattle Seahawks. I think that this game is going to be very intense, a defensive battle. I think the Texans are doing a great job on defense. Their biggest weakness right now is their secondary. They just haven't been making plays this year. The Texans of last year were creating turnovers and taking the ball back to change the game. I think that the Texans should have taken the ball back more against two weak quarterbacks in Jake Locker and Phillip Rivers. They could have gotten some takeaways from the Ravens as well. Ed Reed was a non factor in the game last week. If the Texans want to do something well on defense, they need to pressure Russell Wilson and get to him. I want to see the acquisition of Ed Reed pay off. I think Brooks Reed also needs to stop being a disappointment to the team. He just hasn't been getting great pressure and needs to make big plays. I think that the rest of the defense has been very good, with the defensive front doing very well. J.J. Watt and Brian Cushing are looking like the next great team, but the addition of Joe Mays has gone largely unnoticed. He has shut down the opposing run defense with Cushing, and has provide a great 2 down, run stopping linebacker. The biggest downfall of the Texans last year was we didn't have a run stopper when Brian Cushing was gone. I think the defense has looked good to start the year.

The Texans offense hasn't been the best this year. The running backs haven't provided a good base for the play action pass, which is the Texans biggest weapon. I think Arian Foster just isn't thriving while splitting carries with Ben Tate. The curse of the 300 is back with him so Ben Tate is going to have to carry the load for the Texans running backs this year. The play action pass just hasn't been respected as much because the Texans are having a hard time running the ball. Duane Brown's absence has proved key for the Texans because the pass protection was eaten alive by the outstanding outside linebackers of the Ravens. Elvis Dumerville and Terrel Suggs both were pressuring Schaub all day long, causing horrible throws. I really think that Scaub can't produce anything with his horrible line. Andre Johnson's heath has also been a hold up to the team. His absence from the game has put pressure on DeAndre Hopkins. Luckily, he has stepped up for the challenge and has produced. Now it is the absence of Andre that has hurt the Texans. They need to have a possesion receiver like Andre who can always make a catch when you need to. I hope for the best for Andre but his health is in major question for this week, and the rest of the season. I think the offense is in disarray and Schuab has even ackknowladged that he just hasn't been good enough. If the team can get angry, the Texans can win this game. The Texans offense can bounce back if they can incorporate the play action pass from a solid running game.

Opponent Scouting

The Texans defense can potentially take advantage of the weakened Seahawks offense. The absence of Russell Okung will have the biggest impact with the game. I really think J.J. Watt, and Antonio Smith are licking their chops to face this offensive line. I think Watt will have a breakout game with 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble. The Texans just haven't caused enough turnovers, so J.J. will have a breakout game. We can also look at Brooks Reed. Any one on one matchup on any weakened part of the line could mean Brooks has a breakout game. I think that a problem in this game for the Texans could be respecting all of the aspects of the Seahawks offense. They have a great quarterback in Russell Wilson who can throw the ball, and is starting to emerge as a passer. He can move his feet as well and that is a huge bonus. Since the Texans have to respect Russell Wilson so much, Marshawn Lynch is a worry as well. We might have some problems respecting both aspects of their game. I think that the Seahawks high powered offense can be stopped, but it will take a giant effort from the Texans stout defense. Now let's look at the Seahawks defense. They are stacked in the front, and even better in the secondary. They will have a field day if the Texans can't protect Schaub. Red Bryant, Cliff Avril, and Chris Clemons are all on the outside looking to take advantage of an offensive line that is in disarray. Derek Newton has played ok, but has made some mistakes. Also, if Duane Brown is not healthy, Houston, we might have a problem. Their linebackers may be the weakest unit in their defense. This is only because it is so good everywhere else. If the Texans can open up some holes, they might be able to run the ball a little bit. I don't know though, this defense is stacked. The secondary is the best unit on this team. If Andre Johnson isn't going to play, this will set up the hardest test for DeAndre Hopkins this year. He will be one on one with Richard Sherman. The Nuk is going to have a challenge either way by having to line up against Brandon Browner. Their secondary consists of a balanced safety in Kam Chancellor, and a ballhawk in Earl Thomas. In order to get some offense going, the Texans have to effectively run the ball to set up the play action pass. In the my final verdict, I believe that the Texans can win this game. Since they are playing at home, they can do it. However, if they aren't healthy this could be a blowout. The Texans have to protect the immobile Matt Schaub. If they can stop the Seahawks offense, and protect Matt Schaub, an angry Texans team could come out and beat the Seahawks. My Prediction: The Texans get healthy and are angry and beat the Seahawks. I think the final score will be Texans: 20, Seahawks: 17 In my next article, I will discuss what to do with your fantasy players on the Texans. Also, if you have any questions for me, about me (Not too personal) or about the Texans, leave it in the comments section below. Let's go Texans!
