Earlier this week, there was talk that the 2014 NFL salary cap could be as much as $135,000,000.00 per team. Before that, the talk was that the cap would be $130,000,000.00 per team in 2014. Turns out neither of those reports were correct.
NFL just sent the memo out to teams: 2014 cap is $133M on the dot— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) February 28, 2014
So the cap is about $10M over the original projections. Much needed relief for many teams looking to spend— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) February 28, 2014
To put that number in some historical perspective:
First salary cap? 1994. Number? $34.6 million per team. Why a cap? To allow free agency & ensure competitive league.— Greg Aiello (@gregaiello) February 28, 2014
