The Texans have signed their first free agent under Bill O'Brien and it is at a spot where we have a gaping hole.Gaping is the right word here, because they're looking for a big fellow at the NT position. They picked one up Tuesday in free agency, according to the league's transaction wire. Jerrell Powe, a 6-foot-2, 330-pound nose tackle is now a Houston Texan. Powe is the first outside free agent the Texans have signed since the new league year opened, and he's also the only nose tackle on the Texans' roster right now.
He was a sixth-round pick by the Chiefs in 2011, back when Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel was the head coach there. Though he had some talent, it never quite worked out between Powe and the Chiefs. He was released before the 2013 season and then waited until the Chiefs re-signed him in December. I am sure that the Texans will not just stop there and probably be drafting another nose tackle in the draft. At least this is a start.
