"Like Garcia, Keenum became the starting QB through injury and ended up in a situation where their respective team is now looking to select a QB in the Draft. The 49ers never expected Garcia to blossom into the player he ended up being, and the Houston Texans don’t seem to expect too much form Keenum either, but I believe they are wrong.
They have a diamond in the rough in Keenum, the same diamond in the rough the 49ers had in Jeff Garcia.
Put Keenum on a good team, and he’s a Pro Bowl QB. Give Keenum another season with Houston and some explosive weapons on offense and he just might remind fellow 49er fans of the Jeff Garcia."
Many of the comments on there are positive towards Keenum as well. I know there will be a ton of people saying "He can't read the blitz", "He was undrafted for a reason", and "He just looze!" (Stupidest argument ever, Manning lost plenty his first year) but if you step back, look at the tape, and look at the situation you realize that Keenum was pretty good given the circumstances and many want him to be outright cut! This is absurd, at the very least he showed enough to be a good cheap back-up, but I will be very upset if he is cut and goes on to another team where he flourishes because we didn't give him a long enough look.
I know I'm a fan of his so I'm a bit biased, but he really didn't get a fair shot and he was thrown under the bus so fast he probably didn't even see it coming. If he doesn't show improvement, I know when to cut my losses, but I hope these 49er fans are right. It would really stink if he was cut, picked up by the cowgirls, and succeeded there. I think my head would explode if that happened.
